Gabriela Pratt, who knew that a continent of gloom was coming, stood on her balcony late that night, staring out into the distant West, for a long time in silence. Then she saw Cassidy Manning, who was sitting on the outer eaves of a high-rise rooftop projecting not far from their balcony, undaunted by the terrifying height beneath her feet, gazing west with her.

Gabriela Pratt thinks that if she keeps this up, she'll be a wreck and won't be able to do anything. But she'd come to love it, too comfortable for her to want to leave the exhibition.

She was guarding, their soon-to-be-departed peaceful life.

Gabriela Pratt sometimes wondered if Cassidy Manning would one day leave. What would she do when she left? The thought of it made her inexplicably panic and she was afraid to think about it.
