Chapter 3

With an assurance of their unhampered life together, they were both ready and willing to take it to the next level. On one bright and promising early evening, they both prepared themselves and looked their best. Their plan for the evening was to visit Sophia’s family for a blessing to have a wedding before they could continue with their lives together.

Immediately they were ready, they boarded their limo and was chauffeured to Sophia’s family’s home. Since her family was also wealthy, the home was a 30-minute drive away, still on the Eastern side of the city. That evening, they were only accompanied by one more limo for their security. Not long, they arrived.

Although it was getting late, her father had not arrived home yet. She took some time to mention some details about her family to William as they waited someone to welcome them in. Her grandfather, who was the kingpin of the family, had three wives. Each of the three wives had a son. Her father, Daniels, was the son of the second wife, her grandmother, who died when she was only 5 years old.

She also mentioned that, ever since she was hurt and injured 9 years ago in the accident, her father was isolated by the rest of the family. He was excluded from the family business share and therefore, he had to work extremely hard to have enough money to make ends meet. On the other hand, her now step-mother loved money than anything and life itself.

At that moment, the same step-mother, Rachael, whom she was talking about flung the front doors of the villa open. As soon as she began walking towards the limos, Sophia cut the story and they both began stepping out of the Rolls Royce Phantom limo they were in that day. They too began walking majestically and holding hands together towards her step-mother.

Until then, Rachael had not yet recognized Sophia due to her drastic change. She was then extremely transformed, beautiful and scar-less. As she walked them back to the villa, she still thought of who the girl was. Not long into the thoughts, she finally figured out who she was.

She was then flooded with more unwarranted thoughts concerning Sophia. The very first thought that came into her mind as they were just about to enter the door was how easily she could now sell her daughter and for a fortune. She had everything that would fetch her a perfect price from one of the rich families and apparently, neighbors.

For that thought and reason, she held back William as they entered the door and closed him outside. When Sophia saw this, she turned and signaled him that all was well. Without much of an option, he walked back to his Rolls Royce and made the best of the time with his guards. He was disturbed a little but placed his hope on his fiancé.

Inside the house, Rachael met Jefferson and shared her brilliant scheme of selling Sophia. Unfortunate for Sophia and William, her grandfather agreed to her step-mother’s so-called brilliant idea and their family business come-back strategy. Without waste of any second, being the boss, he called for a family meeting right then.

Since it was tradition for the wealthy families to have all family members live under one roof, they took little to less time to gather for the meeting. Except for Jefferson and Rachael, all the other members had no clue of whom she was at first as well. As soon as Sophia was introduced, her transformation set their souls ablaze.

Some of her sisters were so jealous that they had no patience. They began hulling curses and insults to her there and then even before the meeting went any further. At that moment, her grandfather then announced something that shot straight to Sophia’s heart like a flaming arrow.

He announced the call off of Sophia and William’s wedding. Immediately after that announcement, her uncles and aunts could not be left out as well. They began raising suggestions of marrying Sophia to the evilest of all playboys who was extremely spoilt and good-for-nothing, but wealthy enough.

By that time, they had invited William in for the meeting so that he could not miss a word they said and the orders they gave. Sophia and William, both looked at each other and expressed their disappointment to each other. Shortly, as Sophia’s family sourced and described the most evil playboy, William discovered that, the one in question was from one of his rival families.

That discovery shot yet another blazing arrow into William’s heart. At the time, Sophia was very furious and frightened by the turn of events and her family’s reaction. With the courage that she had her fiancé by her side, she decided to stand firm for them both. She said no to her family’s plan and decision but was well tackled and scorned by Jefferson, who thought she was being ungrateful.

Her father had arrived back home and was intrigued to step in and help his daughter. Unfortunate and unexpectedly, he was rudely and shamefully interrupted by his then wife, Rachael. As if that was not enough, one of the uncles was not satisfied with the damage they had already done to the two and descended on William.

Without waste of time, following his fiancé’s footsteps, he also rose to fight for their relationship and future together. He stood to fight back and taught Sophia’s uncle a lesson he was not to forget any time soon.

Without hesitation or lack of words to express himself, he stepped foot forward. Since Sophia’s family interests were on money and boosting their business, he agreed to help her family reach out to the JMK corporation, the largest company in Credonia and to secure them a 50 million dollar order that they demanded for the time being.

All that was in exchange of the family giving him and his fiancé a humble time to successfully marry Sophia with a nice and peaceful wedding ceremony. Shortly after that offer, William stood up and took Sophia’s hand and led her out. They hastily walked out and into their already running limo and left the compound.

Back at the cottage, the other family members dismissed to their various wings around the house leaving Jefferson and, James, his eldest son and Sophia’s other uncle, having a talk.

“I don’t trust that young man. He is not the type that lives up to what he has just promised us. I think it was just a scape goat,” James implied.

With a wicked smile on his face, “what is in your mind my son? Speak it out. You and I are the pillars of this family’s business. One simple mistake and the business falls,” Jefferson added.

“Honestly, I think we should just go ahead with our initial plan. After all, she is now in her normal state and as beautiful as she can get. She will surely source us a great deal of income. Just give your word and I personally will see to it that we find the right buyer and in time.”

On hearing those words come out of James mouth, he was relieved and certain of his guesses. Jefferson never saw William living up to any of his promises as well. Not even those he had given to Sophia, so he thought. His wicked smile became wider as he thought about it more.

His expectation was seeing William become a looser and flee from the girl, Sophia. He got even more fulfilled for he knew that, when the time came and William fled, they were to get a humble time to marry the now beautiful as ever Sophia to the richest man they knew of at the time.
