The Past

Seth laughed. "Gosh, who knew that he would later die like this? I am sure that after Justin is done with him, he won't come out alive."

Martin nodded his head too in agreement. Cecilia bit her lips in anxiety and fear for Cole.

"Nothing will happen to him." She bit out at them.

Seth and Smith both looked at each other and laughed more.

"It will be a big pity if you become a widow now, you know," Martin told her.

She could not help the anger and fear that was gripping her. She knew Justin taking Cole in there meant trouble.

She tuned out Seth and Martin talking and had her gaze on the door to the office where Cole and Justin were discussing.

“But wait, Justin said he wanted to announce a new boss?” Martin asked Seth in a low voice.

Seth nodded. “Do you know who it is?”

Martin shook his head. “No, I don’t. I hope it is some rich man.”

They both nodded their heads and smiled.

Cole stared at Justin, waiting for him to speak but the older man had his eye fixed on him, his face.

Cole looked so much like the Godfather himself. The resemblance was so clear.

It was good luck that none of his father’s enemies caught hold of him first.

Cole instinctively took a step back, his heart hammering against his chest.

Justin raised his hands and shook his head. "Hey, you don't need to be afraid. I just wanted to take a look at you.” He told him.

Cole gave him a scrutinizing look before he slowly relaxed.

“Do you know who you are?” He asked Cole.

Cole narrowed his eyes at his question. What did he mean by that?

“Yes, I am Cole.” He told him.

Justin laughed. "Yes, you are. But you are more. You are the heir to the Godfather's throne!"

"Finally, finally! We have you, young master!" He said and instantly went down on one of his knees.

Cole was as shocked as any other person will be.

Him? The heir to the Godfather's throne? This was close to impossible. No way.

Cole began to shake his hand and head negatively. "I think you have gotten the wrong person. I am not an heir to any throne. I don't even know my parents, not to talk of some throne I am unaware of."

He started back away and suddenly, a memory of an older man who seemed to be in his late thirties and a young boy who was holding hands flashed through his head.

He stopped at once as he watched the way the man would carry the boy up and they would laugh.

Who was this man?

Another image came, this one the man was crouching down close to this young boy who now looked so close to Cole.

"Cole, remember this. Don't let anyone know your next plan." The man's words rang through his head before he was taken to another memory where he heard the voice of a crying child which was him.

The image of a man standing in black clothes showed on the huge screen before him and a gun pointed at the man who seemed to be his father. "No!" He cried out but the bullet was fired and they all walked away, leaving his father gasping for breath and his mother dying. He reached out for a the remote but someone held him.

He slammed his eyes shut as the painful memories filled him.

Then a hand came out of nowhere and was stretched to him. "Hey, boy. Do you want to live?"

That was when he chose to live and forget the past.

But ... It has come back to haunt him.

Justin sighed. "You don't know how we have been searching for you, young master. Everyone was shocked when the news of your parent's death was announced and you were nowhere to be found."

Cole was still skeptical. He knew that his parents had died. But what was this Godfather thing all about?

His father never told him about it.

"Did your father tell you about us?" He asked them.

The image of a man talking to a waiter flashed again. "Tell them that it is the Godfather who has come."

Wait, his father was the Godfather? He never told him.

But ... He stared at Justin. Can he trust this man?

"So you mean to say that my father is the Godfather and I am his heir and I have access to his properties?” He asked.

Justin nodded his head. "Yes. So you remember now, right?"

Cole shook his head. "A little, since I was too young. But wait, if I think about it... What of Caleb?" He asked him.

Caleb was the man who had been guarding his father and had betrayed him that day by telling the ones who killed his parents their location.

Justin's eyes widened. "You do remember! Unfortunately, Caleb died in the accident too." He told him, his face falling in the process.

Cole leaned against his desk and thought of what was next to say. He did not want to make the fact that he remembers everything obvious as he did not know how his enemy is.

"But I know my father as the Godfather, what is all this about? Why are my death and life something that you all were shocked about?"

Justin shook his head and rose to his feet. "You can't understand. So let me tell you, your father was the head of the Seven Powerful Underground Families. That is why we call him The Godfather. It was an empire we built and for as long as there is that pendant on the neck of someone, he is our leader but," He stopped and glanced around.

"I think you will have to keep down too as there are so many things going on right now and if they know that the Godfather's heir is back, it will create chaos." He advised him.

Cole thought about it and nodded his head.

"I think it will be best if I inform Matt." He added.

Cole furrowed his brows. "And who is Matt?"

"Matt Clark is the son of your father's second-hand man, Ned Clark," Justin told him.

That name rang in his head, Ned Clark.

Then remembered what the man in black clothes said after he shot his father. "When the devil asks you who had you assassinated, tell him that it was Ned Clark, your humble second hand."

He jerked back in shock.

Ned Clark was the one who had his father killed.

And Justin just said that he wanted to tell his son.

No way.

Just as he was about to talk, Justin spoke up. "Unfortunately, for the both of you, you both lost your parents on the same day."

What? How is that possible?

Something was wrong somewhere and he knew it. Ned had killed his father and he had died that same day.

"He was also burnt beyond recognition in his house. When you see Matt, you will see the evidence of that burn on his cheek."

Cole grimaced. The imagination alone was enough to have him afraid of him.

Cole thought of where to begin this game again and a thought came to his head. "I see. I will love to meet him even though I cannot remember everything anymore. Maybe you can help me with my memories." He said, looking at Justin who gave him a nod.

Cole went into deep thought for a second and his eyes widened suddenly. “You say that I can use my access as the Godfather right?” He asked Justin who gave him a nod.

“The party was mainly to find you. I had used it under the pretext of announcing a new boss.” Justin told him.

And that got Cole confused. “How did you know that I was going to come?” He asked.

Justin smiled softly. “With time you will know. For now... What would you like me to do?” He asked.

Cole raised his chin. “I will love to give to give an order concerning the Downs Family.” He said. They both shared an eye lock and nodded their heads together.

Good, the game was just starting.

Cole was about to leave when Justin reached out of the drawer and pulled out a plastic card.

"Take this. You might need it." Justin said, extending his hand toward him.

Cole cautiously took it from him and when he read what was on it.

His eyes widened.

What did he just see?!
