-CH 11-

Zach had awoken from the pleasant dreams induced by his time with Amanda the night prior. the scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air signaling the start of yet another busy day for both of them. It was already 8 am by the time Zach had managed to force himself out of the comfortable linen sheets of his bed and into his bathroom to wash up.

Amanda had left him a set of clothes to wear for his first day as her assistant. A pair of dark gray dress slacks, along with a crisp white shirt and a black vest adorned with a silver clip pin shaped like a teardrop which marked it as belonging to her company. Surprisingly, the clothes fit his body perfectly despite him not going with her to have them tailored to his specifications.

"She must have a really good eye to be able to get everything right without measuring me or anything," Zach noted aloud while inspecting the outfit in front of the mirror before deciding how he would style his hair today. His short brown hair looked just as perfect as ever after he combed through it using a wide toothcomb. He then applied some styling gel and brushed out his locks until they were sleek and straight.

After taking another glance, Zach couldn't help but let out a chuckle. He looked more like some fancy butler than a secretary. But considering that this was something that Amanda had picked out specifically for him, he wasn't about to complain.

With his appearance squared away, Zach headed downstairs to meet up with Amanda. She seemed to already be awake considering the smell of coffee permeating throughout the mansion. Walking down the stairs, he found her in the living room watching the news while drinking her morning brew. She gave off a sophisticated vibe by wearing an expensive looking suit made of wool. It had long sleeves paired with a white button up blouse with three buttons undone to give her cleavage plenty of breathing room. Her blonde hair let loose around her shoulders and framed her face perfectly.

"Good morning!" She greeted him as he entered her vision. She was basically glowing as she smiled at him.

"I thought I smelled coffee, you must have been waiting for me to wake up weren't you?" Zach asked jokingly as he poured himself a cup from the pot sitting on the counter.

"I assumed that you would be sleeping for a bit longer so I went ahead and made us a little pick me up to start the day," Amanda answered while grinning widely. "This way we can start our first day together with a fresh mind." She added before sipping at her own mug.

Zach sat down across from her while taking in her beautiful form again. There was nothing wrong with a bit of morning appreciation. While enjoying the view, Zach noticed what was on the television. It was an announcement from his ex-employer. He was standing in front of another of his expansion sites dressed in a business suit along with his wife. The same woman that threw him away. He took another sip to get over his emotions which were once again becoming difficult to hide. After all, seeing them on national television only served to remind him that they were far out of his reach.

Especially with how high and mighty they looked right now. "Pompous pricks," he muttered under his breath as he watched the screen.

Amanda heard him muttering to himself but wasn't quite sure what he had said. Figuring that it was nothing of importance, she decided to ignore it. "So, you ready for your first day? She remarked nonchalantly while standing from her seat. "It's about time for us to get going."

Zach nodded at her words. Anything was better than watching the bastards who had humiliated him. Amanda seemed to take notice of his mood change as she continued speaking up to try and cheer him up. "Don't worry! I'm positive things will go well for both of us today!" Amanda said as she pumped her fists.

"Yeah..." Zach agreed reluctantly as he rose to his feet and followed Amanda toward the door. "You're right. Everything is going to be just great!" Zach brightened up as he spoke with more confidence.

As soon as Amanda opened the doors, he felt a surge of heat him like he had walked into a furnace. The sun was glaring brightly in the sky with no signs of any clouds that would block its rays from reaching them. A day like this could only mean one thing. There would be nothing to worry about. No obstructions or complications. A pure day full of boundless opportunity lay before them. One would think that a couple such as they were should be able to have their every wish granted on a day such as this...

Or so Zach thought until they took their seats inside of Amanda's old sedan. Rather than a smooth purr to start the vehicle, it was more like a rough grind which made the car shake with each turn of the keys. Zach and Amanda exchanged concerned glances at the strange sound coming from the engine. And if that weren't bad enough, the air conditioning wasn't working either, leaving the interior of the car stiflingly hot.

Nonetheless, Amanda had eventually gotten the car running after a bit of troubleshooting. They still had another hour drive ahead of them to get where they needed to go so she began driving down the road and onto the highway.

Zach kept looking around in an attempt to get his bearings since he didn't recognize much of the surrounding area. He knew that Amanda lived in a more exclusive part of town, so he needed to take in as much information as he could while he looked for familiar landmarks along the way.

As Amanda drove through the city streets, Zach couldn't help but marvel over all the various sights and sounds around him. In fact, everything about the outside world seemed entirely different compared to what he was used to.

The grass truly was greener on the other side as far as he was concerned. There was also a lot fewer people walking about as well. Likely due to the increase in vehicle owners on this side of town. And despite the state of Amanda's sedan, it sure beat waiting for the bus. There was even a slew of designer stores lining the streets that only further piqued Zach's interest.

If he had been able to live a life like these people then he would have never been looked down on. As they traveled northbound on route 27 towards their destination, Zach continued taking mental notes with regard to everything new and foreign. While his eyes scanned across the horizon, he felt himself becoming distracted by Amanda's profile. Of course, she was unaware of his stares and would likely continue to be oblivious unless he said something about it.

Her blonde hair danced slightly every time she shifted into a turn or changed lanes. The fabric of her suit shirt billowed gently from the wind generated from moving at a faster pace than usual. He even found himself unable to break away from her supple lips that formed a delicate smile. His eyes had become so focused on Amanda that he had failed to see that they had reached their destination.

"Where are we?" He asked confused after glancing around and noticing that they had arrived in a sort of parking garage.

"What, were you asleep or something? We're at my company silly. She answered as she pulled into a spot marked "Reserved Parking".

"Now come on. There's a lot I want to show you."
