Chapter 4: Why Does That Nightmare Felt So Real?

A gripping darkness greeted Niff's eyes as soon as the eyelids opened. Somehow Niff suddenly woke up in the middle of the forest. Cold air fell piercing the pores as Nif rose to a sitting position.

It took a few seconds for Niff to pay attention to his surroundings. The silhouettes of the trees soar high, the silhouettes of the leaves that grow thickly blocking access to the moonlight, and the sounds of forest animals are calling out.

'Wait, this must still be a dream,' he avoided it in his heart when it was a bit difficult to stand up from sitting. His body staggered while reaching out his hands, groping around.

It's terrible. There was no light making Niff's movement really difficult. Njff felt all the hairs on his neck when he heard the owl's whistling.

The problem is, Niff can't see the owl's form. Niff's eyes only caught the silhouettes around.

"Light, where ca—" Niff's sentence suddenly stopped after a pair of eyes found the light of a light bulb-shaped object.

Niff immediately turned around and approached the luminous object, took it, then paid close attention.

"Isn't this my orb of power?" muttered Niff.

Niff's face lifted again. He started replaying memories a few moments ago: himself leaving the living room, going to the bedroom, sleeping while holding his Agyss ball in his arms. Those fragments of memories only made Niff even more frightened.

So why was Niff suddenly here?

Srek. srek. srek.

Niff suddenly jumped and turned to the source of the sound and looked carefully. Unfortunately, Niff just remembered that it was too dark.

"Who is there?" asked Niff while sticking out the power ball in his hand now.

No answer.

The light from this ball of power could not illuminate for a great distance. Niff's view is limited. His eyes narrowed in all directions as he slowly backed away. His body gestures became swift.

"Who is there?!" Niff's voice volume rose, becoming a reflection of an echo in the silence of the forest.

Srek. srek. srek.

Niff gulped. His mind was confused by two things: the sound of his own footsteps and the sound of someone else's scraping. The two seemed to blend together and their voices almost matched.

Why are there no humans at all? Did John take me and leave me here alone?!

Niff really wanted to scream. But his throat felt constricted. His breathing was irregular as the cold atmosphere became more and more tense.

"Who—"

"MEOWW!"

"Good grief!"

Niff almost fell backwards because his foot tripped on a twig. Luckily, Niff was able to stop himself from swaying backwards.

"Aish! Damn cat!" Niff cursed at the black cat that suddenly ran in front of him.

Niff hissed in annoyance, looking down to check his feet. Luckily, there were no injuries. Nothing badly scratched.

"Why am I stuck in here?" Niff's complaining voice resembled a whisper amidst the silence.

Even though he was very annoyed, Niff forced himself to continue. Moves through the long weeds while occasionally slashing the weeds with his hands.

"Niff… Niff…."

Just a few steps forward, Niff's steps had stopped again. His whole body stiffened perfectly. The soft whispering sound sounded very close, as if it were behind or beside him.

Niff froze in place. His throat constricted again. He felt a strange tingling in his chest like a horrible uneasiness. He was sure that no one else around was in sight.

Except …

"Niff... don't you miss me?"

Niff gulped, feeling bitter. His passionate curiosity made him move his head slowly. Want to find out who actually spoke.

"Niff..."

With a trembling face, Niff was almost looking back. But suddenly a cold gust of wind hit his face. Forcing Niff to look forward again.

Niff's body froze watching the circle of black mist swirling. At first it was just a faint mist, then more and more it became a thick black mist. Swirling to form a vortex until eventually something appears in the middle of a circle of mist.

"Niff..."

'No, this must be a dream,' Niff tried to avoid what he was seeing now.

Niff slowly backed away. The mist that emerged from the center of the vortex formed a head, dangling tangled hair, hands, ghastly long fingers, and half a body floating in the center of the pitch-black mist vortex.

"Apparently you grew up like this. How does it feel to be alive again?"

Niff almost screamed if he didn't cover his own mouth. Hiss cream colored agyss ball rolled down beside her.

"Are you surprised? I haven't found you in centuries. Niff … isn't death pleasant?"

"W-who are you?" Niff's voice squeaked in fear. "Why are you talking to me?!"

"Does death excite you, Niff? Isn't it boring having to live a long life without death?"

"WHO ARE YOU?!" Niff's loud voice just came out because of the pressure of fear.

Niff's two feet stepped back one by one. As soon as possible Niff grabbed his agyss ball.

"D-don't come closer! Don't…" Niff was nervous to death. His eyes trembled looking at the mist woman a few meters from before his eyes. "I could harm—"

"You shouldn't be alive, Niff. Does the god still love you? What a shame…."

The mist woman's sentence hung as one of her arms shot up. A circular object emitting a pitch-black light appeared, floating above the woman's palm.

Niff was dumbfounded while looking at the ball somehow. The more he noticed, the more familiar he felt. It resembled his agyss power ball. But in contrast to his shining power ball, the agyss ball actually appeared dark.

Niff's heart ached as he looked even more at the agyss ball of power. Why does it feel like there is a connection in his heart?

"Too bad, your agyss is already in my hands. And you have to witness… your agyss betrays you!"

It happened so fast. Niff just stepped back to dodge, but the fog suddenly lunged forward. Raised the pitch black ball of agyss in his hand, then was about to target Niff's heart point.

"YOU MUST DIE, NIFF!"

"NOOOO!"

"NIFF! NIFF!"

"ARGHHH!"

Niff suddenly sat up with a jolt, waking up from his very painful nightmare. His breath hunted. His heart beat was beating very strong.

For a few seconds, Niff couldn't help but stare in a daze. Really, what he was experiencing just now felt so real. But the view that Niff got when he opened his eyes was actually a foreign room.

The jolt he experienced just now made him uncomfortable. He glanced around, feeling like he was still on the brink of consciousness.

'What's this? Was what happened just now a dream?' Niff thought between his efforts to regulate his breath.

It took a moment for Niff to balance his dazed focus. Before finally Niff let out a slow breath as his shoulders slumped limply.

"Why did the dream feel so scary?" Niff muttered while brushing his hair back.

Niff tries to remember the last bits of his dream before being jolted awake.

A white colored Agyss slowly turning black was thrust into his chest. There was a sudden, electric shock-like pain that radiated so fast.

'YOU MUST DIE RIGHT NOW!'

Niff's mind flashed that sentence. He thought of two things in the last fragment of his dream: the electric shock pain from Agyss's orb and the words from the black fog figure.

Why do those two things feel so real?
