Boundary
The dense red mist enveloping the circular structure in the center of the courtyard slowly thinned, swept away by a vortex of wind born from the movement of its core. I narrowed my eyes sharply, enduring the continuous heat radiation burning my face. The silhouette, previously obscured by thick shadows, now slowly materialized into a physical form, growing ever clearer before my eyes. The structure towered upwards, piercing the ceiling, resembling a giant cage. Dozens of massive magnetic rings spun around it, rotating on three different axes. These rings generated a centrifugal force shield that locked its central axis with immense power. I could see flashes of red lightning arcing fiercely between the metal joints, containing a pressure that was incredibly extreme. It was as if this machine was keeping something tightly locked inside.I stared at the energy conduits injecting red power into the cage. Everything flowed inward; not a single drop of power was being channeled out."It's
Turning Point
A faint, pulsing red light swept across my face as I stepped through the circular hatch. The cloaked figure followed close behind me, letting the gate rotate shut. The air in this area felt completely different. There was no longer the silence or sense of emptiness from the previous layers. Before long, a low-frequency hum resonated, causing my teeth to chatter incessantly. The walls around us were no longer static. The lines of energy on the metal plates radiated streams of red light, no longer waiting for my footsteps to ignite."This place... is awake," I muttered, feeling the floor vibrations penetrate the soles of my boots. I gripped my arcblade, my knuckles tightening against its metallic surface. All my life, I had been used to recognizing the sound of an engine newly booted up versus one being forced to run at full capacity. This Monument had crossed that threshold; it was no longer in a passive initialization phase. This place was fully active.I was no longer just an i
Inverse Resonance
The giant gate behind us slid shut. The sound of its thud was dull, swallowed by the air in this layer. The air here pressed against my chest like a thick layer of fluid, making every breath feel heavy and demanding extra effort. The physical form of this corridor was more stable. Its black walls were perfectly smooth, sloping downward without any spatial distortion. No part of the passage suddenly stretched or shortened. The cloaked figure in front of me kept walking with a calm rhythm. The tapping of its boot heels echoed in short, repeated beats. I tightened my grip on the Arcblade cylinder at my hip, ensuring the weapon was still in its place. We walked down the slope for dozens of minutes before finally arriving at a hexagonal intersection. Three branching corridors were tightly sealed by sturdy-looking steel doors. The cloaked figure walked straight toward the middle corridor. It stopped before its door, waiting for the system to respond as it had in the previous layers. One sec
Descent
I stepped forward quickly, following the cloaked figure down the corridor that pierced through the darkness. The air inside this passage grew increasingly dense, pressing against my eardrums with a hollow sensation that felt as if it wanted to crush my skull."How many layers does this giant structure have?" I demanded, my voice echoing off the wall plates. As expected, the figure in front of me didn't turn around at all. It let its footsteps remain the only rhythm breaking the silence. I gripped the arcblade cylinder at my hip, feeling sweat starting to seep through my gloves. I couldn't turn back now.The deeper we walked into this dark passage, the more distortion began to creep in, attacking my senses."It's happening again," I hissed sharply, slowly coming to a stop. I looked down, staring straight at the heels of my boots planted on the steel plate. The scale of distance in this place was completely wrong. Three seconds ago, the back of the cloaked figure appeared to be just an
Distortion
"The first layer has finished opening." Those strange words hung in the air, echoing with a dual resonance that vibrated the atmosphere around me. "What do you mean by the first layer?" I demanded raspily, raising the tip of my arcblade's cylinder toward it. "Did you set all of this up? Answer me!" The cloaked figure did not turn its head at all, nor did it pay any attention to my pointed weapon. As if my question were merely a gust of empty wind, it calmly turned its body around. Without hesitation, it strode forward, penetrating the darkness of the monument's main corridor and swallowing itself into the belly of this giant structure. "Damn it," I cursed, scraping the soles of my shoes against the floor. The bridge behind me had already collapsed, eliminating any possibility of retreat. I had no other choice. Like it or not, I had to follow. I quickly picked up my pace, closing the distance between us before the figure vanished, consumed by the shadows of this ancient structure.
The Monument Below
My breath broke the freezing silence. Air scooped into my lungs, replacing the scent of flowers and damp earth that had felt so real just seconds ago. My eyes blinked frantically, dispelling the lingering shadows of the artificial ceiling and the laughter of children that still echoed in the corners of my mind.Back to the darkness of the room. The stone table still stood before me. However, the Veil Archive—which had been emitting a golden glow earlier—was now dead. It had reverted to a mute chunk of black stone.Across the table, the cloaked figure had not moved an inch, as if refusing to offer any explanation for what had just happened to me."What did you just show me?" My voice sounded raspy. My hands reflexively gripped the edge of the stone table tightly. "That wasn't just an illusion, was it?"There was no answer. My body felt incredibly heavy. The room was filled with a pressure so dense it felt atmospheric.I stared into the darkness beneath its hood, demanding an explanatio
