The Queen's empire

It was the kind of place she'd always dreamed of— The kind of place that snatches the breath and holds it. It was the empire she built far away from her husband... ex-husband with her dirty secret.

The parlour, high roof, important from foshan looks like a grand place ripped out of a magazine. Furniture that screams expensive taste settled on the glimmering floor like they were beaconing on the queen to sit upon. Tiny pieces of crystal from the empire chandelier scattered light on the floor.

But the queen, the star. She was inside her room. She just stepped out of the bathroom, stark naked, steam curling into the air from her body. Her hair dripped to the floor after the morning bath.

Even, her room looks like some sort of mini-empire— A gigantic bed that looks like a throne sat at a corner, contrasting the threadbare nonsense she'd been managing with Amos in the cramped apartment.

At another corner is a polished wardrobe harbouring clothes that could pay ten times her former rents at Bobo flex.

She dried her body, walked to the wall mirror where she started combing her hair when her phone buzzed.

She turned and reached out to the phone on the bed and picked the call.

"Do you have the girl?" She clipped.

"Yes, Madame."

She nodded, her expression concrete. "Take her to the hospital i asked you," She said. "I'll be there in a moment. No treatment should commence till I get there. Get it?"

"Yes, Madame."

The line snapped.

Lisa dropped the phone and smirked, amused. The look in Amos' eyes the previous night was satisfying...she'd never seen him look that disappointed.

He slammed a divorce paper on the table, thinking he'd become something tough. And Lisa, in her shallow mind, thinks he was going to crawl back begging her.

Twenty minutes later, she was dressed up in a deep blue gown that fitted her curves perfectly. She balanced on a black heels, fixed a black glass to her face, and took one last glance at her reflection in the mirror. She smiled, satisfied with her look, and so she turned on her heels, walking out of the room.

She stepped into her white BMW in the garage, kicked the engine and drove out of the gated apartment. The car stopped in front of the Regency special hospital.

She eased the car into a clean parking space and stepped down with regal style. Her appearance drew glances from the onlookers— some mumbling astonishing comments about her gorgeous look, while a few were pointing at the exotic car behind her.

Without sparing a damn glance at anyone, she moved into the hospital with graceful stride, into the Doctor's office.

Dr. Cheng, her private doctor stood up with a wide smile as she walked in. "Madame Lisa," He beamed, "good thing you're here already."

Lisa smiled lightly, her expression neutral. Without a word, she sat on the opposite seat. "How's the treatment going, Doc? Heard she was brought in with some bruises on her body. Is it something I should worry about?"

Dr. Cheng Leaned forward gently, his smile dropping as he responded with a mix of professionalism and concern and mild surprise.

"It shouldn't have been something to worry about, but it looks like she'd been through a lot recently, and she'd lost so much blood in the process. Were you not aware about anything..."

"Are you implying that she needs blood transfusion?" Lisa cut him off.

"Yes. Immediate transfusion."

Lisa exhaled sharply, a flicker of annoyance behind her lashes. " Then do your job, Doc," She clipped. "I have a video shoot in the next thirty minutes, and she's part of the crew."

Dr. Cheng paused, his eyes slightly wide in mild shock. "You mean, She's going to be performing with you? In the next thirty minutes," He then leaned forward with concern etching over his matured face. "But..she won't be able to handle such stress after everything she'd been through. She.."

Lisa's eye burn laser on Dr. Cheng as she cut him off arrogantly. "That's none of your business, Doc," She said flatly. "Just do your job. You have less than 30 minutes to make her walk out of that room on her feet." She stood up to leave.

Dr. Cheng was in shock at her cruel demand. This was clearly against his job ethics. Rose's little body was resilient to withstand that much distress, and the only thing she needed at the moment was recovery.

But instead, Lisa wanted her for a role in her video shoot in the next thirty minutes. Was she really her mother after all? Dr. Cheng Wondered.

He'd been working with Lisa long enough to know she's defiant on taking any medical advice that doesn't suite her.

Dr. Cheng was slightly detached but helpless in the situation.

"But currently, the hospital doesn't have her blood match in the blood bank," He said, making Lisa turn at the door, her eyes narrowing on him fiercely. "Then find it." She clipped.

"Madame. You need to know that this is a matter of urgency," The Doctor pressed on quickly. "Her life is hanging on the edges. You should call any relatives. Maybe her father. That should cut the long chase."

Lisa paused at the door. Hearing the word 'husband' made something flicker in her eyes. But it was neither guilt, nor nostalgia. It was naked hesitation that Dr. Cheng caught.

His eyes narrowed. "Is anything the matter, Ma'am," He said. "It'll be more safe since your husband's blood is likely to match Rose' to avoid any future complications."

Lisa threw him a glance. Hesitation warred with pride and distaste for her husband... ex-husband. For a moment, it felt as though karma was spinning fast against her. Like she was the one crawling back to the man she called worthless trash.

But she knew exactly who Amos was— the man who shouldn't even breathe the same air as her.

Amos would definitely grasp at this chance to crawl back, begging her to return to him. And she's going to kick him out again. But she was damn wrong about her thoughts. Damn wrong!

Rose had a role to play in her career now. The same kid she called a regret. Her resemblance with her face on the screen— That was the main necessity of her role.

And because of that. Because the kid has a major role to play in her life now, she pulled out her phone, clicking on Amos' contact with barely concealed irritation.

Her phone buzzed as she dailed Amos.

  • The master is home!

Beep. beep. beep... The continuous beeping sound rippled though the otherwise quiet room. The wall was painted white, the temperature cool and cozy, making the ambience a mix of wealth, and a room of survival. At the corner of the room is a bed with a man laid face up, seemingly unconscious in a white hospital wear. An IV tube snaked to his arm, passing in blood into his body. His right leg was wrapped with a bandage. Clean and professional. Amos Voss. Amos' finger twitched at the side, then his eyes gently fluttered open. He squeezed his eyes shut against the harsh ray of the roof light. Again, he opened his eyes, recovering his sight to see a white roof. The smell of antiseptic hit his nose, sharp. His eyes narrowed in confusion. This... The roof was too clean to belong to Bobo flex cramped apartment. Was this heaven? And the smell in the air was sharp sterile. It wasn't the usual smell of dust and smoke. "Where am I?" He mumbled, his thoughts spiralling. Amos pushed him

  • Rose, taken after the storm.

10p.m. The rain was still relentless. Amos stood on Bobo flex pavement, the droplets drifting on him like whips. But nothing hurts now. Poor Rose. She nestled on his father's shoulder, his skin pale and stiff as a ghost, shivering feverishly in the harsh cold. The cruel realization that Lisa was the one behind their evacuation shows just how deep her hatred for them had deepened. Wasn't she the same kid she harboured in her belly for nine months? She was her kin, her blood. Blood is thicker than water they say, but Lisa had pooled the bank with venom, turning blood into poison. adulterated. Toxic. Rose is nothing to her but a cruel regret. She'd spilled the words without any ounce of hesitation or guilt. Lisa had flashed her clout— to tell Amos— 'you're nothing without me.' A paused after the blow. Her finger waved at Rose like he was a filth. "Now take a look at her," She said. "You're making a hapless girl suffer because of your poor life. Should a man like you even have that gut to have an erection, and not to talk about you c*ming to bring her into your messy world. " Amos's expression faltered slightly, the words hitting him harder than any blow. He wasn't man enough? Th

  • Rose in the storm

    9. P.m The rain was dropping so heavy, pattering against rooftops, slamming loose windows hard. Amos stumbled into the yard, his cloth drenched, soggy, clinging to his form like a second wrinkled skin. The cold and drops were harsh, biting the skin like nails. Yet the only thing Amos could think of as he trudged through the storm was her sweet little daughter, Rose. He stumbled into the yard, pushing the rusted gate with desperate force that the joints groaned as though pained. The ground of the tenement pooled with puddles, splashing mid-air on Amos' trouser as he pushed through the storm to his apartment. He froze, pausing mid-steps on seeing a figure in front of his apartment. His heart sank shit."Rose," He rasped, his voice trembling with despair. He dashed to her on the pavement. Rose was outside, in the harsh unsafe night, standing on the porch with her school bag and lunch box clattered to the floor like wastes. The rain drifted to her side, soaking her school unifor
