The world was nothing but fire inside Kai’s body.
His veins burned, and every breath was a blade scraping through his lungs.
He fell to his knees, clutching his chest really hard. His screams muffled against the dark silence of the forbidden Ancestral Trial Grounds.
“System Notification: Initiating Core Fusion. Warning: Host meridians incompatible. Structural collapse imminent.”
The golden text burned itself into his vision, but Kai could barely read through due to the intense agony. His body twisted unnaturally. He could feel his bones popping and realigning with blood spilling from his nose and mouth.
“Ahhh…!” His voice echoed across the cavern walls.
For years, they had called him trash. For years, the whispers had covered his steps, suffocating him like chains he could never break. And now, those chains have broken with fire and fury.
The Martial Core’s power surged through him and his body convulsed as the fragments of energy sought paths where none existed.
His vision blurred. A faint memory surfaced. His father’s calloused hand resting on his shoulder and a gentle voice saying, “You will not always be weak, Kai. Even broken chains can be reforged into weapons.”
The words were clear in his mind.
“Then forge me now!” Kai roared in a hoarse voice with blood. “I will not die here! Not as trash, never again!”
The tablet flared in response, divine chains bursted into threads of light that pierced his skin.
“System Notification: Beginning Reconstitution of Meridians.”
Golden fire seared through his broken pathways, knitting them together. Pain became thunder. His bones vibrated. His heart hammered so hard he thought it might explode.
The energy that once tore him apart now began to circulate through him.
Kai gasped for air as power coursed through him. His vision cleared, and he felt it hum of something alive within him.
Floating above his dantian, a faint fire flickered to life. That was his Martial Spirit.
Tears stung his eyes not of weakness, because he had never dared to dream this day would come. That he, the boy branded useless, would awaken what even geniuses bled years for.
The cavern vibrated as the chains of light retracting into silence. Kai fell forward, gasping as every of his muscle trembled with exhaustion.
“System Notification: Broken Meridians Repaired. Martial Spirit Awakened.
System Notification: First Quest Completed – Break Free From Mortality.
Reward: +10 Vitality. Basic Martial Arts Manual (Unsealed).”
The words etched themselves into his vision. For the first time.
Kai sighed, weakly at first, then louder. His voice broke into the cavernous silence. “I… I did it. I’m not trash anymore.”
His body collapsed onto the cold stone with sweat soaking his tattered robe. His chest rose and fell.
……….
Meanwhile, across the Azure Cloud Sect…
Elder Zhao Tianren sat in quiet meditation. His hands clasped as spiritual energy flowed around him like a mist. His cultivation chamber glowed with quiet power until a sudden shiver ran through the air.
He opened his eyes sharply.
There came a heavy ripple. He could feel a fluctuation of energy that was so subtle, yet so… impossible. His pupils narrowed. He recognized it instantly, because he had stood guard over those grounds for decades.
“The Ancestral Tablet…” Zhao whispered in a low and dangerous voice.
He stood while his robes whispered against the floor. His face twisted into a grimace. “That boy… Kai Lin. I sent him there to rot, to vanish as he should. How could this fluctuation be him?” He muttered silently.
His hands clenched behind his back, and his veins bulging.
“Trash does not rise,” Zhao muttered, though unease gnawed at the edge of his certainty. He remembered the boy's father, Lin Feng. He was the man who had defied him and had vanished under mysterious circumstances. A shadow flickered through Zhao’s mind, it was an old secret he had buried deep.
If the boy had truly touched the tablet…
Zhao’s eyes narrowed into slits, now sharp as blades. “That trash… impossible. Did he touch the tablet?”
The chamber filled with silence, but Zhao’s killing intent seeped into the air like poison.
“If the impossible had indeed happened, then Kai Lin is no longer just a useless pest. He is now a threat. And threats… must be crushed before they can take root.”
Back in the Trial Grounds, Kai lay on the cold stone, his breathing ragged, but a faint smile etched across his face.
His body was still weak, but within, he felt the flow of energy. For the first time in his sixteen years, the future wasn’t a locked gate anymore. It was a door he had broken open himself.
His eyes closed in exhaustion, but his hand gripped the stone floor with determination.
“No more chains,” he whispered.
………….
…….
………….
The next day, the morning sun was bright across the Azure Cloud Sect’s training field. It casted long shadows over the rows of outer disciples standing in formation. The clang of wooden swords and the crack of fists against stone echoed across the field. Yet, as always, whispers rose whenever Kai Lin stepped onto the grounds.
“Look, the cripple’s here again.”
“He still dares to show his face? Trash really doesn’t know shame.”
“It doesn’t matter. Watching him get beaten is entertainment.”
The taunts slid across the air like knives. Kai had grown used to it, but today, something burned behind his calm expression. He tightened his fists, though he kept his head lowered, letting his messy hair cover his eyes.
The jeers grew louder when Li Shen. The tall and arrogant boy in his azure training robes, walked across the grounds with his guards. His lips curved into a sneer as he stopped directly in front of Kai.
“Well, well. If it isn’t Azure Cloud’s shame.” Li Shen’s voice was deliberately loud enough for Elder Zhao Tianren who sat coldly overseeing the training from the stone pavilion to hear. “Still dragging your broken body here every day? Shouldn’t you just give up and save us all from having to look at you?”
Laughter erupted among the disciples.
Kai remained silent.
The silence only fueled Li Shen’s arrogance. He leaned closer. His breath was hot with disdain. “Or perhaps you enjoy being a clown all along? Trash like you exists to amuse others, after all.”
A chorus of chuckles from other disciples followed. Kai’s nails dug into his palms. He remembered the night in the forbidden grounds, the tablet, the voice, the burning agony, and finally…the awakening.
He inhaled slowly.
Elder Zhao’s sharp clap silenced the field. “Enough. Begin the cultivation progress test

Chapter 142:Collapse Of The Fifth Rift Chambers
Kai stepped out of the fading illusion and felt the solid floor of the awakening chamber under his feet as the entire structure trembled.“System, status,” Kai said.“Chamber integrity dropping. Forced stabilization field deploying,” the System replied. The Silent Rift Sect elders stumbled back as cracks ran along the walls. One elder shouted, “We need to leave now.”Kai said, “Move. I will hold the field until the sequence completes.”Another elder hesitated. “But if the chamber collapses—”“Go,” Kai said. “You will only slow me down.”The elders turned and ran toward the exit tunnel just as a blast shook the chamber.“System, incoming presence,” Kai said.“Warning. True Path operatives breaching the southern wall,” the System announced. The wall burst open and several masked figures entered, weapons charged with rift energy. One operative pointed at Kai. “Stop the shutdown now.”Kai stepped forward. “You will not touch the core.”The closest operative rushed him, but Kai struck once
Chapter 141:The Forced Trial Sequence
Kai placed his hand on the pillar and the chamber shook as the system linked to the ancient mechanism. A sharp sound rang out and locks snapped into place around the platform beneath him.“System, what is happening?” Kai asked. The ground vibrated and a ring of symbols lit up around his feet. The air thickened as the entire chamber tightened like a trap.“Shutdown attempt detected,” the system replied. “Ancient protocol has recognized the host as the trial candidate. Forced sequence triggered.”Kai tried to step back, but columns of rift energy rose around him and held him in place. “I did not agree to any trial.”“The chamber does not recognize refusal,” the system said. “Original cycle rules are still active. Host is being transferred.”A pull grabbed Kai from all sides. The walls dissolved into light and the elders shouted in panic from behind him.“Kai! Step away from it!” one elder yelled.Another shouted, “The chamber thinks you are the chosen mortal! Stop the system before—”T
chapter 140:The Awakening Chambers
Kai walked toward the center of the chamber as the floor shook under the pressure of rising energy. System spoke in a steady tone and filled the air with a blue projection.“Energy levels are rising at dangerous rates. The awakening process has already begun.”Kai kept his eyes on the circular platform ahead of him. “How fast?”“Current rate suggests a critical threshold in twenty minutes. Full activation in less than two hours.”Kai stepped onto the platform and looked up at the tall control pillar. Symbols glowed across its surface. “This is old. Much older than the other rift structures.”The surface flashed once, and a holographic record formed in the air. Figures from a past cycle appeared, showing a battlefield that shook under massive bursts of light. People screamed and fell as the ground broke apart.Kai narrowed his eyes. “A disaster record.”System responded. “The record is displaying the consequences of a failed Ascendant Trial. The rift collapsed in on itself and destroye
Chapter139:Descent Into The Core Zone
Kai landed on the unstable ground as the sub-rift floor gave way beneath him. Dust spread through the collapsing chamber, and the deep cavern below opened with a heavy tremor.“System, stabilize my descent,” Kai said as the ground fell apart under his boots.“Energy dampening field active. Fall impact reduced,” System replied.Kai dropped through the final layer of debris and landed in a dim cavern. The air pulsed with deep rift energy, and sharp cracks moved across the walls.Three True Path operatives appeared from a side tunnel. Their movements were fast, and their weapons flickered with unstable glow.“Stand down,” Kai said. They attacked instead.Kai moved in at once. His strikes were precise. He hit the first operative in the chest, forcing him to crash into the wall. The second tried to flank him, but Kai grabbed his arm and pulled him down with a firm twist. The third swung a blade at his neck, but Kai blocked with his forearm and pushed him back.“System, confirm identities,”
Chapter 138:Lost Scouts
Kai moved with steady steps as he crossed the northern barren region with the rapid-response squad close behind him. Cold wind hit their clothes, but no one slowed down. The ground carried faint tremors, and the sky above them flickered with thin cracks of rift light.“System, confirm coordinates,” Kai said.“Coordinates locked. Rift distortion thirty meters ahead,” the System replied. An Azure Cloud scout ran up to Kai. “Sect Master, the distortion is unstable. It is shifting every few breaths.”“We keep moving,” Kai said. “No one spreads out.”“Understood,” the squad responded. The ground under them shook again. Kai looked at the flickering air beyond the ridge. “System, what is the nature of the distortion?”“Signatures resemble time displacement fields. Caution advised.”One of the elders glanced nervously around. “Time displacement at this magnitude should not appear unless a rift is being tampered with.”“True Path is here,” Kai said. “Stay alert.”As they approached the next ri
Chapter 137:The Fifth Rift’s Coordinate
The system projected a large map into the strategy hall. Blue lines formed a steady pattern, then shifted into sharp red spikes that moved across the northern region.“Kai,” the system said, “the Fifth Rift spike pattern is now fully generated.”Kai stood in front of the projection with his arms crossed. The elders gathered behind him in silence, waiting for him to speak. The map kept pulsing as if responding to a rising force.“Show the final coordinates,” Kai said. The red spikes narrowed until they converged on a barren zone far to the north. The land appeared empty, with no settlements and no stable energy veins.Elder Jian stepped forward. “This region has unstable weather barriers. Sending anyone there without preparation is reckless.”Kai turned his head slightly. “We will prepare.”Elder Yao frowned. “The weather alone can break formations. The rift activity will make it worse.”“System,” Kai said, “confirm the rift fluctuation range.”“Range confirmed,” the system replied. “T
