The world was nothing but fire inside Kai’s body.
His veins burned, and every breath was a blade scraping through his lungs.
He fell to his knees, clutching his chest really hard. His screams muffled against the dark silence of the forbidden Ancestral Trial Grounds.
“System Notification: Initiating Core Fusion. Warning: Host meridians incompatible. Structural collapse imminent.”
The golden text burned itself into his vision, but Kai could barely read through due to the intense agony. His body twisted unnaturally. He could feel his bones popping and realigning with blood spilling from his nose and mouth.
“Ahhh…!” His voice echoed across the cavern walls.
For years, they had called him trash. For years, the whispers had covered his steps, suffocating him like chains he could never break. And now, those chains have broken with fire and fury.
The Martial Core’s power surged through him and his body convulsed as the fragments of energy sought paths where none existed.
His vision blurred. A faint memory surfaced. His father’s calloused hand resting on his shoulder and a gentle voice saying, “You will not always be weak, Kai. Even broken chains can be reforged into weapons.”
The words were clear in his mind.
“Then forge me now!” Kai roared in a hoarse voice with blood. “I will not die here! Not as trash, never again!”
The tablet flared in response, divine chains bursted into threads of light that pierced his skin.
“System Notification: Beginning Reconstitution of Meridians.”
Golden fire seared through his broken pathways, knitting them together. Pain became thunder. His bones vibrated. His heart hammered so hard he thought it might explode.
The energy that once tore him apart now began to circulate through him.
Kai gasped for air as power coursed through him. His vision cleared, and he felt it hum of something alive within him.
Floating above his dantian, a faint fire flickered to life. That was his Martial Spirit.
Tears stung his eyes not of weakness, because he had never dared to dream this day would come. That he, the boy branded useless, would awaken what even geniuses bled years for.
The cavern vibrated as the chains of light retracting into silence. Kai fell forward, gasping as every of his muscle trembled with exhaustion.
“System Notification: Broken Meridians Repaired. Martial Spirit Awakened.
System Notification: First Quest Completed – Break Free From Mortality.
Reward: +10 Vitality. Basic Martial Arts Manual (Unsealed).”
The words etched themselves into his vision. For the first time.
Kai sighed, weakly at first, then louder. His voice broke into the cavernous silence. “I… I did it. I’m not trash anymore.”
His body collapsed onto the cold stone with sweat soaking his tattered robe. His chest rose and fell.
……….
Meanwhile, across the Azure Cloud Sect…
Elder Zhao Tianren sat in quiet meditation. His hands clasped as spiritual energy flowed around him like a mist. His cultivation chamber glowed with quiet power until a sudden shiver ran through the air.
He opened his eyes sharply.
There came a heavy ripple. He could feel a fluctuation of energy that was so subtle, yet so… impossible. His pupils narrowed. He recognized it instantly, because he had stood guard over those grounds for decades.
“The Ancestral Tablet…” Zhao whispered in a low and dangerous voice.
He stood while his robes whispered against the floor. His face twisted into a grimace. “That boy… Kai Lin. I sent him there to rot, to vanish as he should. How could this fluctuation be him?” He muttered silently.
His hands clenched behind his back, and his veins bulging.
“Trash does not rise,” Zhao muttered, though unease gnawed at the edge of his certainty. He remembered the boy's father, Lin Feng. He was the man who had defied him and had vanished under mysterious circumstances. A shadow flickered through Zhao’s mind, it was an old secret he had buried deep.
If the boy had truly touched the tablet…
Zhao’s eyes narrowed into slits, now sharp as blades. “That trash… impossible. Did he touch the tablet?”
The chamber filled with silence, but Zhao’s killing intent seeped into the air like poison.
“If the impossible had indeed happened, then Kai Lin is no longer just a useless pest. He is now a threat. And threats… must be crushed before they can take root.”
Back in the Trial Grounds, Kai lay on the cold stone, his breathing ragged, but a faint smile etched across his face.
His body was still weak, but within, he felt the flow of energy. For the first time in his sixteen years, the future wasn’t a locked gate anymore. It was a door he had broken open himself.
His eyes closed in exhaustion, but his hand gripped the stone floor with determination.
“No more chains,” he whispered.
………….
…….
………….
The next day, the morning sun was bright across the Azure Cloud Sect’s training field. It casted long shadows over the rows of outer disciples standing in formation. The clang of wooden swords and the crack of fists against stone echoed across the field. Yet, as always, whispers rose whenever Kai Lin stepped onto the grounds.
“Look, the cripple’s here again.”
“He still dares to show his face? Trash really doesn’t know shame.”
“It doesn’t matter. Watching him get beaten is entertainment.”
The taunts slid across the air like knives. Kai had grown used to it, but today, something burned behind his calm expression. He tightened his fists, though he kept his head lowered, letting his messy hair cover his eyes.
The jeers grew louder when Li Shen. The tall and arrogant boy in his azure training robes, walked across the grounds with his guards. His lips curved into a sneer as he stopped directly in front of Kai.
“Well, well. If it isn’t Azure Cloud’s shame.” Li Shen’s voice was deliberately loud enough for Elder Zhao Tianren who sat coldly overseeing the training from the stone pavilion to hear. “Still dragging your broken body here every day? Shouldn’t you just give up and save us all from having to look at you?”
Laughter erupted among the disciples.
Kai remained silent.
The silence only fueled Li Shen’s arrogance. He leaned closer. His breath was hot with disdain. “Or perhaps you enjoy being a clown all along? Trash like you exists to amuse others, after all.”
A chorus of chuckles from other disciples followed. Kai’s nails dug into his palms. He remembered the night in the forbidden grounds, the tablet, the voice, the burning agony, and finally…the awakening.
He inhaled slowly.
Elder Zhao’s sharp clap silenced the field. “Enough. Begin the cultivation progress test

Chapter159:The Hidden Chamber
Kai dropped through the collapsing floor without hesitation. The ice broke under him and the weight of the core dragged the whole section downward. He kept his body steady as he fell.“Stabilizing descent,” the system said.A gentle force wrapped around him and slowed his speed. Kai landed on solid ground inside a wide chamber hidden beneath the cavern. The ground was frozen, but smoother than the ice above. Cold air drifted across the space.Kai looked around. “How far below are we?”“Twenty meters,” the system answered. The chamber stretched farther than the one above. The walls carried heavy layers of frost. Several relics stood half-buried in ice. Some looked like tools. Some looked like pieces of armor. None of them were recent.Kai walked forward slowly. “These are old.”“Yes,” the system said. “Extremely old. Estimated age exceeds recorded history.”The ground beneath his boots was covered by a massive seal carved into the ice. It formed a circular pattern with tight lines and
Chapter158:Core Discharge
The system gave a sharp warning the moment the core expanded. “Immediate danger. Forming protective barrier.” A thick shield of force wrapped around Kai before he could move.Kai looked at the glowing mass. “How unstable is it?”“Severe instability detected,” the system replied. The core erupted in a burst of cold rift energy that spun outward in violent waves. The shock pushed the True Path elites off their feet. They collided with the cavern walls, rolled across the ice, and scrambled to regain balance.Kai pressed his boots into the ground. “Hold.”“Stabilizing footing,” the system said. The wave continued to surge. Kai braced against it. His arms shook from the pressure. The barrier flickered but held long enough for him to breathe.Chunks of ice loosened from the cavern ceiling. Large pillars tore free and crashed downward. Kai saw one falling directly above him.“Redirecting trajectory,” the system said. The pillar shifted mid-fall and shattered harmlessly to the side. Another o
Chapter 157:Chore Exposure
Kai stepped back as the glowing anchor released a wave that spread across the cavern. The air trembled and small cracks spread through the ice beneath his feet.“System, what did it expose?” he asked.“Identifying structure. Classification confirmed. Seventh Rift Core Node. Partial Awakening,” System replied. Its voice echoed inside the cavern with clear urgency.True Path elites hurried into formation. They stepped back toward their commander and formed a protective circle. Their breaths turned to white mist as the cold intensified.“Hold the perimeter,” the commander ordered. “No one lets him near the core.”Kai watched the shifting glow. “How active is it now?”“Energy output rising. Stability uncertain,” System said.A deep rumble moved through the cavern as large icy chunks broke free from the ceiling and crashed to the ground. Silent Rift Sect elders shouted from above the fissure, but their voices were faint at this depth. Kai ignored the noise and focused only on the core.He
Chapter 156:Descendant To The Northern Anchor
ai hit the ground hard, but he did not crash. A force wrapped around him and slowed his fall at the final moment. Ice cracked beneath his boots. A wide cavern stretched around him. Thick frozen walls shone with pale blue light. The air was heavy and cold. The System spoke at once. “Landing stabilized. Reinforcement output applied.”Kai looked up. A long opening far above showed where he had fallen from. Snow drifted down in small flakes. He turned as the sound of movement echoed behind him. The True Path elites had landed as well. They recovered quickly and stepped toward him.One elite pointed at him. “You should not be here.”Another raised both hands. “You will not leave this place alive.”Kai shifted his stance. “I do not have time for you.”The first elite attacked. Kai blocked the strike and hit the man in the chest. The force sent him sliding across the icy ground. Another elite rushed forward with cold energy forming around his arm. Kai dodged and struck him in the side. A thi
Chapter 155:Northern Thunder Threat
Kai moved with the Azure Cloud’s fastest units as they crossed the frozen plains. Harsh wind pushed against them. Snow lifted in sharp waves. The group kept close behind him. The System spoke inside his mind with a steady tone.“Severe rift distortion detected across the northern region. The closer you move, the higher the instability.”Kai looked ahead. “How long until full activation?”“Thirty-four percent and rising. The rate is increasing.”Elder Sha walked beside him. “The air is wrong. The cold is not natural.”Kai nodded. “Everyone, stay sharp.”A sudden blast of frost cut across the sky. The temperature dropped even lower. Several disciples covered their faces. Their breaths became heavy and slow. The snow hardened under their feet. Another warning echoed from the System.“Environmental pressure increasing. Recommend stabilizing internal circulation.”Kai answered quietly. “Do it.”“Circulation adjusted.”Scouts rushed forward and bowed slightly. “Sect Leader, we saw lights un
Chapter 154:The Aftermath Of The Shattered Anchor
The dust slowly settled as the shattered anchor fragments stopped glowing. Kai stood at the center of the ruined pillar, breathing steadily while the System cleared the scattered energy around him.“Residual rift force is dispersing,” the System said. “Clearing the surrounding field so movement becomes stable again.”Kai waited as the last wave of distortion faded. The elders of the Silent Rift Sect moved back toward him with slow, careful steps. One of them looked around in alarm.“Kai, is the area safe now?”“It is stable enough to move. The System already handled the dangerous energy,” Kai said.Another elder pointed toward the broken piles of stone. “We need to check for survivors before the ground shifts again.”Kai nodded and stepped over fallen slabs. He felt the System scanning the whole field.“There are limited life signatures,” the System reported. “One True Path operative is alive. Location marked.”Kai followed the mark and pushed away a cracked stone panel. A True Path o
