Explosions shook the eastern ridge before the sun had fully risen. Red flames rolled down from the distant mountains as the first wave of Crimson Serpent attacks began. The air filled with the sharp crack of spirit artillery and the distant roars of charging cultivators. Kai stood at the center command post, his System interface lighting the air around him with rapid data streams.

System Notification: “Warning. Incoming bombardment detected. Intensity: high. Recommend activating Barrier Rotation Sequence.”

“Activate rotation sequence now!” Kai shouted. “All teams, prepare for impact!”

A bright shield shimmered above the ridge as disciples channeled energy through formation cores. The ground shook again when the first barrage hit. Dust and smoke rose, but the barrier held.

“Commander!” shouted Lian from the western flank. “Outer layer integrity at seventy-two percent! They’re targeting the same point repeatedly!”

Kai looked at his interface. “System, redirect barrier flow from northern

There was no battle today. The cold air carried the stench of blood. Kai stood at the edge of the ruined field. His body was trembling from fatigue. He looked over the battlefield. “System,” Kai muttered weakly, his voice low, “status report.”[System Notification: War Status – Paused (Preparation Phase 2). Casualties recorded: 1,372 Azure Cloud disciples. Estimated enemy losses: 3,108. Mana reserves at 12%. Host vitality at critical threshold.]Kai clenched his jaw. “Show remaining supply count.”[Supplies remaining: 27% of original capacity. Food shortage in five days. Healing potions critically low. Formation materials depleted.]He exhaled slowly, his body aching as if it could collapse at any second. Around him, survivors began to gather. Many were bloodstained, their faces pale and hollow.“Guildmaster!” Arin shouted as he approached, carrying a bandaged disciple over his shoulder. “The eastern ridge is secured. No more enemies are left standing.”Kai turned to him, his eyes s

  • Chapter74: the break through

The war started before morning. The enemy had regrouped overnight and returned stronger. They pushed hard against Azure Cloud’s middle defense line. Kai stood at the front. His eyes was locked on the red banners of the Crimson Serpent Sect moving through the valley.“System,” he said, his voice calm despite the chaos, “status on all defensive fronts.”“Eastern ridge holding at seventy-five percent integrity,” the System responded. “Western barrier stable. Central formation under heavy pressure.”“Redirect the reinforcements from the north to the center,” Kai ordered.“Command confirmed. Estimated arrival in three minutes.”Ren appeared beside him, covered in blood and dust. “Kai, they’ve summoned their elite division. Their cultivators are using formation amplifiers to break through.”“I see it,” Kai said as the System highlighted the advancing enemy units in red. “We end this before they can stabilize.”The System chimed again. “Energy levels within host fluctuating. Combat synchron

  • Chapter 73:the betrayal of elder Mo

The day began quietly, but tension filled the air. The System had been running constant scans after the retreat. Kai was at the command post, reviewing reports from every division when a sudden alert flashed before him.“System,” he said quickly, “display the alert in full.”“Detected encrypted spiritual transmission originating from Elder Mo’s quarters,” the System reported. “Signal pattern matches Crimson Serpent Sect frequency. Estimated duration: eight minutes.”Kai’s face hardened. “Trace the destination.”“Transmission connected to enemy envoy camp two miles east of the ridge. Communication logs partially intercepted.”Kai read the text appearing in front of him: ‘…the Azure Cloud Sect’s defenses are weakened. The inner barrier will fail in two days. I can open the western seal in exchange for safe passage and elder status under your banner…’Ren entered the command post right then, holding a battle report. He stopped when he saw Kai’s expression. “What’s wrong?”Kai didn’t answ

  • Chapter 72:disciples in chaos

The disciples went in every directions when they received the order to pull back from the battle. The smell of dust filled the air almost drowning out commands from their ears. The sounds of explosions and screams got the disciples confused. Kai stood at the center of the inner defense ridge, his System interface flashing red alerts across his vision.“System,” he said sharply, “status of retreating units.”“Processing… Outer units fragmented. Formation integrity at thirty-two percent. Morale: rapidly decreasing. Command structure partially collapsed.”Captain Ren rushed up, his armor scorched and eyes wide. “Commander, it’s falling apart. The younger disciples are panicking. Some are abandoning their squads!”Kai’s tone was cold. “We can’t afford a collapse. Activate internal broadcast channel.”“Broadcast channel open,” the System confirmed.Kai’s voice boomed through every communication device across the battlefield. “All Azure Cloud units, listen carefully. You will stop running

  • Chapter71: hidden weapon of the enemy

Kai stood at the center command post. His eyes fixed on the glowing map projected by the System. Red markers blinked faster than before. Something was wrong.“System,” he said sharply, “update tactical feed.”“Processing…” the System replied. “Warning: Unknown energy detected within Crimson Serpent ranks. Source classified as ‘Ancient Artifact’ level. Effect radius: one kilometer and expanding.”Kai’s gaze darkened. “What kind of artifact?”“Energy signature resembles a formation nullifier. Estimated ninety-five percent chance it targets spiritual barriers directly.”“Formation nullifier?” Captain Ren repeated, his voice tense. “That would render our entire defense grid useless.”Elder Han stepped forward, clutching a talisman. “Impossible. Those relics haven’t been seen since the Old War. How could they possess one?”“Debating won’t change the outcome,” Kai said. “System, confirm barrier stability.”“Warning: Outer barrier stability reduced to sixty-one percent. Decline rate increasi

  • Chapter 70:retaliation strike

Commander Kai,” Captain Ren said as he entered the command tent, his armor scratched and bloodstained. “Scouts confirmed the Crimson Serpent Sect has fortified a forward base ten miles south of the central pass. They are gathering more troops.”Kai stood in front of the tactical map, his eyes scanning the red markers that represented enemy formations. “How strong?”“Two thousand cultivators, including two domain-level elders,” Ren replied. “If they finish setting up their siege formations, we’ll be trapped here.”Kai nodded slowly. “Then we cannot wait for them to attack again. We strike first.”Elder Han frowned. “You want to launch a counter-offensive now? Our troops are tired, and our supplies are stretched thin.”Kai turned to him. “If we wait, they’ll send three times that number. We either hit now or dig our own graves later.”The System’s voice echoed clearly in his mind. “Quest Triggered: Retaliation Strike. Objective: Destroy Crimson Serpent Forward Base. Estimated Reward: Do
