Crazy system upgrades! & First sub-quest.

Naturally the young man was none other than Dante!

Contrary to his belief that he could shake off the zombie horde from the ice cream shop, the opposite happened instead.

The bastards stuck to him like a bloody loach!

Furthermore, the zombies even had the guts to call over more of their kind.

If not for his sharp wits and admirable skills he would have met his maker!

Eventually he was able to shake off the zombies but by then the sky was already getting dark.

If you thought the horrors of the day weren't enough try nighttime!

Unlike in the movies where zombies became slow and super inactive at night the zombies in real life proved otherwise as they instead became even more ferocious in dark.

Plus the chance of encountering a mutated beast was even higher at this time since they treated night as their hunting time.

There was no way Dante would willingly offer himself up for dinner–ever!

There was a problem though—he had nowhere to stay.

By now the apocalypse had already passed over twelve hours and most of the campus was teeming with zombies and other unimaginable abominations.

The mall was a no go while the closest place that was safe was the boys dormitory which wasnt close either.

However it was the closest choice hence he went there.

Luckily the true terrors of the night hadn't really arrived or else making it to the boys dormitory would be next to impossible.

After dealing with a few zombies and nearly causing another horde to chase him Dante was finally able to find a free dormitory.

Although Brayden was a state institution they received a lot of funding and sponsorships due to their strkng research strength. This they were wealthy enough that their hostels were top-notch.

The dormitory he had found was located on the middle floor easy to jump out of in case of accidents.

Except for some rooms with zombies most of the rooms were empty since the apocalypse struck at a time when most students were having lunch.

Now that he could finally relax Dante was just about to rest his muscles when he heard a loud sound from the ground floor. Curious he went to the window only to notice three ladies moving towards the female dormitories.

Fuck!..

With widened eyes he started at them with disbelief scrawled on his face.

Were they dumb?!”

Seeing the hordes of zombies running towards them he felt that it was unfortunate as there was nothing he could do against a horde of this size.

However it was at this moment that the system which had been dormant suddenly came back and the result?

Let's just say even the Thai kid couldn't aura farm as much as he did!

************

Eventually after saving the three girls Dante brought them along with him to the boys dormitory.

Realizing that they were finally safe from the zombies the trio broke down into tears as they thanked him.

Although he didn't know what they had experienced it must have definitely been traumatic!

After giving them some of the food and water he scavenged, the three soon slept off.

Normally girls kept up their guards when with strangers but with Dante saving them they subconsciously felt safe with him around.

Occasionally they'd squirm and frown as if they were having nightmares.

Subconciously Dante clenched his fists in anger, he too had been there, in fact he perfectly understood how they were feeling at this moment since he had also suffered the same way in the early days of the apocalypse.

Shaking these thoughts out of his head he proceeded to the second room.

Getting angry wasn't going to change anything unless he had the strength. He still remembered the overwhelming aura when that voice announced Earth's fate like it was nothing.

Despite witnessing it twice he still had t been able to shake off the fear in his heart but now things were different he had the system and the future was

limitless!

First though he had to go through the new system interface!

“Hey system are you there."

Calling out to the system he expected it to ghost him again but to his surprise it actually answered.

[ Champion you've done well I'd say. Fonding three beauties to warm your bed on the first night of the apocalypse—tsk, tsk, tsk!]

Hearing the system's casual tone all the seriousness from earlier dissapeared immediately.

Why did it seem like the system had a downgrade instead of an upgrade?

“Erm stop saying nonsense!"

System:"....”

In order to prevent the system from coming up with more bullshit Dante quickly drew up the system interface.

After going through it for a while though there was a doubting expression on his face.

“System are these the new upgrades?"

[Yes!]

"But it looks the same as the previous interface!"

Looking at the ‘new’ system interface he wondered why there wasn't a change in the design.

It somehow reminded him of about a tech company hundreds of years ago that sold the same product each year with minimal design changes yet still charged premium price.

[Champion the system changes are more than mere appearances. The system is now fully functional for apocalypse survival. New panels have been added to aid your use in the apocalypse. Would you like to view them now?]

“Ugh…yes I guess.” as he said this the familiar interface flashed in his eyes once again.

“Oh..MF now that's new. Wait a minute!”

Seeing the “MF” a certain word came to Dante’s mind, he was about to start bantering with the system when he discovered the three new tabs which quickly intrigued him.

“Hey system, what are the functions of these new tabs?”

[The system analysis function allows you to look at the real time stats of any creature as long as they are within twenty levels above you.]

[The dimensional design suite is a separate space isolated from reality where you can create all your designs. It has everything required to create equipment although it costs points to use]

[The dimensional storage space is where you can keep stuff you have that isn't equipment or gotten from the system. It's independent of the system and can be accessed at any time.]

Listening to the system's explanation, Dante expression gradually changed from shock to nearly fainting from excitement.

This was the ultimate super cheat!

While the system described the three aspects blandly like they weren't important he was able to recognize their importance.

If he wasn't wrong the dimensional design suite was similar to design software used by most engineers except for the fact that he could actually use it to actualize his designs real time!

It had a look similar to a high end workshop with everything he needed to create a piece of equipment or design.

If he had this when he was creating the power armour and the Resonant blade he was sure it would be even better!

This was insane!

The Dimensional storage space on the other hand was just like it's name suggested. A spatial storage space.

He was aware of them since they were very common in the apocalypse later on after a scientist had discovered how to create them from some special materials.

However, the space inside them was very small with most at a mere cubic meter while also being super expensive. Only those powerful enough or working for a stronghold could own one.

His inventory was somewhat of a storage space although it only kept stuff from the system like potions and blueprints. He had tried keeping food and other items but it didn't work.

He was already having a headache thinking of a way to store his things in the future since this wasn't when the storage ring was created.

Now that he had a storage space though all that worry vanished. Furthermore, his space was exceptionally huge measuring an astonishing ten cubic meters! He could also expand it though it would cost gear points in the future.

Another point blackhole but he didn't mind…who told him to have a great system.

Looking through the interface there were other minor changes like the fact that he could now see his level which was currently one. To level up he simply had to throw in five gear points with an additional one for each level up till he reached level fifty where he would undergo the first class advancement. For a while he was tempted to add points as he hated the scrap engineer title but eventually rationality took over.

He wouldn't even be able to reach the class advancement before his points ran out!

The MF attribute was actually mechanical force which was sort of like a special energy to control his creations. It was actually what made his electromagnetic bomb have that special field effect.

Overall the system upgrade made him satisfied, in fact he was motivated to hunt more zombies since they were also a source of points although he couldn't do that right now as he still had to come up with a strategy.

Although most of the upgrades were immediately visible there were still some that he would have to take his time to study properly.

[Champion, the first sub-quest has been unlocked. You can check it now]

“Huh…?”

Quickly opening the system panel he scrolled down to the bottom of the panel where the Quest used to be. It was no longer faded out and just under it a small pop up window was there.

[ Sub-quest: As the last Champion, you can't save the universe of your home planet is destroyed. Ensure Earth survives the apocalypse in a year's time.]

“You've got to be kidding me right?"

  • Chapter 13 : Fighting the dorm horde(I)

“Crap!”For the first time in his life Dante fully experienced what it meant to be blasted by a blow horn. His ears were ringing like crazy! That however wasn't the main thing. Running to the window his face turned even darker. The perverted look that was previously hanging on his face was long gone replaced by one of fear and panic. Zombies were inherently optimized with great sharp senses. A slight sound was enough to alert them into a frenzy. Just as he guessed all the zombies that were previously wandering aimlessly were now staggering in the direction of the male hostel block. Last night he was able to avoid facing a horde but looking at the situation now there was definitely no way he could avoid one. Throwing all these thoughts to the back of his mind he quickly turned towards the door only to see the lady standing there. Thankfully she had covered the exposed parts of her body. “I went to take a bath….” “There's no need for an explanation, it's my fault f

  • Chapter 12: They actually get that big?

As he stared at the quest window floating in front of him Dante wished that he was dreaming. Unfortunately though this wasn't a dream. The existence of a sub-quest was actually long expected by Dante at this he wasn't surprised a bit. In his opinion there was no way the system would immediately assign him the main quest without some minor quests that would serve as stepping stones to reach the main quest. It was just like playing a video game, you had to deal with the minions before you could have a chance to fight the boss! What shocked him though was the fact that he only had a single year to complete the quest! "Hey system why is the timeline a year, there's got to be something wrong with your measurements.” Frowning he muttered to the system in his head as he looked at the still suspended interface. If he didn't remember wrongly humans were still existing after a year had passed. In fact he got killed by the D-tier zombie king five years into the apocalypse s

  • Aura farming!

The skies of Brayden were already turning purple with a tinge of greyish black smoke in them. The first day of the apocalypse was over. The terror however wasn't! In a small piece of shrubbery next to the student dormitories, a group of three girls could be seen hiding while doing their best not to make a sound. They looked tattered and there was nothing to mention their once youthful beauty as their clothes were torn and bloodied while dirt caked up on their faces. Currently they were watching or rather were forced to watch their friend being eaten by a zombie. They had just been heading out for a quick meal at the cafeteria when the apocalypse descended, the next few hours were their worst which unfortunately led to the death of their friend. The scene before them was utterly gut wrenching enough to make the strongest willed person retch, there was nothing they could do however as any movement they made would inevitably alert the zombies to their presence. Finally a

  • Zombies? kill!

The next moment the entire mall descended into pure chaos as people tried to run far away from the zombies. By now even more zombies had exited the gateways and were already on their hunting spree. “Idiots!” Seeing the crowd was pushing each other Dante couldn't help but let out a curse involintarily. With the way they were behaving more people would die instead of escaping! At this moment they were more like mindless animals running without direction rather than intelligent humans. “I also can't stand here like this.”Muttering to himself, Dante searched around for a suitable weapon which quickly turned out to be a mopping stick some cleaner had dropped earlier. Twisting the head off he swung it around a bit to gain a measure of the improvised weapons limits before deciding that this was balanced enough for him to use. It wasn't perfect but at least it was better than not having a weapon on him.At exactly the same moment a zombie arrived at his floor of the mall and

Burgundy country…..Immediately the last word was said everyone around the world saw a scene that would forever remain etched in their memories. The sky was falling! Well not like the sky actually fell. Rather this was the result of another dimension being imposed on Earth's spatial plane! The next moment the whole world shook once more before everywhere went quiet. Immediately the sounds of sirens filled the air as police car and rescue workers rushed towards various places that reported casualties. Right when everyone was wondering how weird the last few seconds had been gigantic, blood red portals suddenly appeared in the sky, ground, oceans even in the middle of busy streets! In every continent, in every country these strange portals suddenly appeared. As if with tacit understanding military personnel suddenly rushed to cordone away the gates from civilians who were trying to see what was happening. “Arrgh!” Right then a miserable cry rent the air! It turned
