Chapter 12: They actually get that big?
last update2025-07-29 23:23:10

As he stared at the quest window floating in front of him Dante wished that he was dreaming.

Unfortunately though this wasn't a dream.

The existence of a sub-quest was actually long expected by Dante at this he wasn't surprised a bit.

In his opinion there was no way the system would immediately assign him the main quest without some minor quests that would serve as stepping stones to reach the main quest.

It was just like playing a video game, you had to deal with the minions before you could have a chance to fight the boss!

What shocked him though was the fact that he only had a single year to complete the quest!

"Hey system why is the timeline a year, there's got to be something wrong with your measurements.”

Frowning he muttered to the system in his head as he looked at the still suspended interface.

If he didn't remember wrongly humans were still existing after a year had passed.

In fact he got killed by the D-tier zombie king five years into the apocalypse so what was this matter of Earth being destroyed within a year?

[ In order to ensure that your soul successfully survived the journey to Earth I had to tamper with the threads of time a bit.]

Hearing this Dante's felt even more confused.

“But that doesn't mean Earth should be destroyed in a year, right?”

[Champion you're naive!...]

Hearing the system's voice that seemed to be sneering and scolding at the same time Dante suddenly had a premonition that things weren't as simple as he initially thought them to be.

[This timeline and that timeline are totally different and you being here has disrupted the balance of the universe resulting in an anomaly in the fabric of space and time. While events like this occur in the various realms they are usually left alone. Your existence as a champion however changes everything. The universe seeks to destroy you and what best way than to destroy your planet? Hehe…Champion you have a lot of work to do.]

After the system said this it went silent leaving Dante to ponder in silence, there was a serious expression his his face as if he was contemplating some serious matter.

“So you mean I'm the cause of the irregularities and I have to save the planet?"

[Obviously!]

If the system had eyes it would probably be rolling them in exasperation.

Why did it seem like this kid's head was filled with water? Wasn't that what it had been trying to say all along!

“Well I guess I have no choice but to become humanity's saviour…”

As he said this Dante released a heavy sigh that sounded super fake!

The expression on his face looked like a factory worker forced to work overtime without pay.

”….and here I thought….ah just forget it I don't want to think about it or else I'm gonna change my mind.”

Waving his hands in the air like he was chasing away clouds of despair Dante accepted the quest.

Immediately, a crimson loading bar appeared beneath the quest along with a percentage indicator by the side.

Listening to Dante the system honestly wished it had arms for the first time in it's existence just so that it could smack this asshole in the face.

Any other person would be sombre and super serious when they heard what it said yet Dante was as casual as the milkman on a Sunday!

It seriously started to wonder if it hadn't made a mistake when it choose a Champion.

“It's morning already!”

Before it could say a word though Dante suddenly exclaimed.

Through the gaps of the curtain, the early rays of the sun filtered into the room making it look like golden rods were striking the floor.

Unknowingly it was already the next day!

Somehow, both the system upgrades and the sub-quest had kept Dante wide awake thorough out the whole night!

Although staying for days on end was something he was used in his last life that was because he was far stronger than the average human.

His current self was only slightly stronger than the average individual and thus he still needed to sleep although at the moment that could be shelved aside.

Watching as the sun rose into the sky along with the roars of zombies a serious look replaced the flippant one previously on his face.

Although he looked playful Dante was actually tense.

With the way the system described the quests he knew he was in for a very difficult journey.

Just a wisp of aura from the creature from yesterday's apocalypse descent was greater than any he had ever felt in his past!

There was no way he could win if that was what he was up against—at least not now. He probably wouldn't even last a fraction of a second!

“It's not like we are actually going to meet now plus I still have the system! There's no way I can't beat some monster!”

If there was one thing Dante had it was his resilience and stubborness to never give up before even starting.

This was what allowed him to eke out a living for five long years in the wastelands of Brayden city!

Even if he was like an ant right now, he would be an ant going against the heavens!

Plus he had the Black Gear system which was like a super cheat in existence so he wasn't even an ordinary ant now!

Just the basic stuff he had access to was enough to make him invincible at the moment and as his skills increased he would only become even more invincible forget one monster even a thousand would not be able to hold him back!

By now the sun had fully risen, the the skyline of Brayden was already showing and usually this would be the rush hour when most people would be going to their respective workplaces.

Now that was more!

Clenching his fists, he turned away from the window as the Resonant chain blade appeared in his hand as an aura of pure majesty billowed around him while faint signs of lightning crackled all over his body due to his mechanical force being activated.

The Resonant blade also started vibrating as if it was feeling his emotions.

“This life….”

Right then the door suddenly opened causing him to go into a defensive stance. At first he thought it was a zombie only to see two gigantic balls with pointed tips floating in the air. Behind them was a body that could only belong to a super model.

"Damn they actually get that big?"

The raging mechanical force that was roaring all around him dissapeared like they were never there in the first place.

“ARRGH!"

He was still staring when he suddenly heard one of the loudest shrieks in his life!

The next moment all the zombies in the vicinity turned their heads to the hostels.

Seeing this there was only one thought on Dante's mind.

“Oh shit! We're fucked!”

“Crap!”For the first time in his life Dante fully experienced what it meant to be blasted by a blow horn. His ears were ringing like crazy! That however wasn't the main thing. Running to the window his face turned even darker. The perverted look that was previously hanging on his face was long gone replaced by one of fear and panic. Zombies were inherently optimized with great sharp senses. A slight sound was enough to alert them into a frenzy. Just as he guessed all the zombies that were previously wandering aimlessly were now staggering in the direction of the male hostel block. Last night he was able to avoid facing a horde but looking at the situation now there was definitely no way he could avoid one. Throwing all these thoughts to the back of his mind he quickly turned towards the door only to see the lady standing there. Thankfully she had covered the exposed parts of her body. “I went to take a bath….” “There's no need for an explanation, it's my fault f

  • Crazy system upgrades! & First sub-quest.

Naturally the young man was none other than Dante! Contrary to his belief that he could shake off the zombie horde from the ice cream shop, the opposite happened instead. The bastards stuck to him like a bloody loach! Furthermore, the zombies even had the guts to call over more of their kind. If not for his sharp wits and admirable skills he would have met his maker! Eventually he was able to shake off the zombies but by then the sky was already getting dark. If you thought the horrors of the day weren't enough try nighttime! Unlike in the movies where zombies became slow and super inactive at night the zombies in real life proved otherwise as they instead became even more ferocious in dark. Plus the chance of encountering a mutated beast was even higher at this time since they treated night as their hunting time. There was no way Dante would willingly offer himself up for dinner–ever! There was a problem though—he had nowhere to stay. By now the apocalypse had

The skies of Brayden were already turning purple with a tinge of greyish black smoke in them. The first day of the apocalypse was over. The terror however wasn't! In a small piece of shrubbery next to the student dormitories, a group of three girls could be seen hiding while doing their best not to make a sound. They looked tattered and there was nothing to mention their once youthful beauty as their clothes were torn and bloodied while dirt caked up on their faces. Currently they were watching or rather were forced to watch their friend being eaten by a zombie. They had just been heading out for a quick meal at the cafeteria when the apocalypse descended, the next few hours were their worst which unfortunately led to the death of their friend. The scene before them was utterly gut wrenching enough to make the strongest willed person retch, there was nothing they could do however as any movement they made would inevitably alert the zombies to their presence. Finally a

The next moment the entire mall descended into pure chaos as people tried to run far away from the zombies. By now even more zombies had exited the gateways and were already on their hunting spree. “Idiots!” Seeing the crowd was pushing each other Dante couldn't help but let out a curse involintarily. With the way they were behaving more people would die instead of escaping! At this moment they were more like mindless animals running without direction rather than intelligent humans. “I also can't stand here like this.”Muttering to himself, Dante searched around for a suitable weapon which quickly turned out to be a mopping stick some cleaner had dropped earlier. Twisting the head off he swung it around a bit to gain a measure of the improvised weapons limits before deciding that this was balanced enough for him to use. It wasn't perfect but at least it was better than not having a weapon on him.At exactly the same moment a zombie arrived at his floor of the mall and

Burgundy country…..Immediately the last word was said everyone around the world saw a scene that would forever remain etched in their memories. The sky was falling! Well not like the sky actually fell. Rather this was the result of another dimension being imposed on Earth's spatial plane! The next moment the whole world shook once more before everywhere went quiet. Immediately the sounds of sirens filled the air as police car and rescue workers rushed towards various places that reported casualties. Right when everyone was wondering how weird the last few seconds had been gigantic, blood red portals suddenly appeared in the sky, ground, oceans even in the middle of busy streets! In every continent, in every country these strange portals suddenly appeared. As if with tacit understanding military personnel suddenly rushed to cordone away the gates from civilians who were trying to see what was happening. “Arrgh!” Right then a miserable cry rent the air! It turned
