For several seconds after Tom West spoke, the underground casino felt frozen in time. “…your parents belong to me forever.”

The words echoed across the marble room like a verdict. No one laughed this time. Even the most ruthless men in the crowd understood what that meant. Slavery, Permanent.

Mr. Lawson clenched his trembling hands. His voice came out hoarse. “No… no, we won’t allow that.”

Mrs. Lawson shook her head violently, tears already streaming down her cheeks. “Mark, don’t! Please don’t gamble for us!”

Mark stood beside the table, completely still. His mind replayed Tom’s words. One more game. All in.

Across from him, Tom West leaned back in his chair again, watching calmly like a predator that had already cornered its prey. “You don’t have to accept,” Tom said lightly.

“But if you walk away now…”

He nodded toward Mark’s parents. “…they stay.”

The threat hung in the air. Kitara suddenly stepped forward. “That’s enough.”

Every head turned. She looked at Tom with a sharp glare. “The deal was one game. He won. Their debt is cleared.”

Tom chuckled. “My dear Kitara, this is not about the debt anymore.”

His eyes shifted to Mark again. “This is about pride.”

Kitara’s expression hardened. “You lost.”

“Yes.”

Tom didn’t deny it. But his voice remained calm. “And I don’t enjoy losing.”

A few of the men around the room shifted uncomfortably. Anyone who knew Tom West understood something important:

He was not a man who accepted defeat easily. Kitara looked at Mark. “Don’t play.”

Her voice was firm. “We’re leaving.”

Mark didn’t move. His gaze drifted slowly across the room. The guards. The stacks of cash. His parents were kneeling helplessly. The powerful men who had laughed at him only minutes ago.

All of it felt like a strange dream. But the humiliation still burned in his chest. He remembered the kick. The slap. The laughter when they learned he was only a delivery driver.

He remembered his mother begging for mercy. Mark finally spoke. “If I win… they go free.”

Tom smiled. “Yes.”

“And Kitara gets the company?”

Tom nodded. “That too.”

Kitara frowned. “What company?”

Tom leaned back again, clearly enjoying the moment. “The one we’re sitting in.”

The room exploded with whispers. Kitara’s eyes widened slightly. “You’re serious?”

Tom gestured around the luxurious casino. “This entire building belongs to me.”

He tapped the table lightly. “If he wins, you own it.”

Kitara stared at him. This was no small prize. West Dominion Tower was worth billions. But the price of losing would be catastrophic. Her voice dropped slightly. “Mark.”

He looked at her. “Don’t do this.”

Mark gave a faint smile. “I already am.”

Kitara stepped closer to him. “You don’t understand how dangerous this man is.”

Mark nodded slightly. “I do.”

“Then why risk everything?”

For a moment, Mark didn’t answer. Then he looked at his parents again. “They risked everything raising me.”

Silence filled the room. Mrs. Lawson broke down crying. “Mark, please… we don’t want this!”

Tom clapped his hands slowly. “How touching.”

He leaned forward slightly. “So, delivery boy…”

His eyes sharpened. “Are we playing?”

Mark pulled the chair back and sat down again. The sound of the chair scraping against the marble floor echoed across the room. “Yes.”

A ripple of tension spread through the crowd. Kitara sighed quietly. “You’re either the bravest man I’ve ever met or the dumbest.”

Mark chuckled softly. “Maybe both.”

Tom turned to the dealer. “Shuffle.”

The dealer picked up the cards again. But this time, the atmosphere had changed completely. Everyone was watching. Every hand movement. Every finger.

Tom rested his chin lightly on his hand as he studied Mark. “You surprised me earlier,” he admitted.

“But lightning rarely strikes twice.”

Mark leaned back in his chair. “Funny.”

Tom raised an eyebrow. “Why?”

Mark gestured toward the cards. “Because that’s exactly what you’re hoping for.”

The dealer finished shuffling. He placed the deck between them. “Final game,” he announced quietly.

Tom nodded. “Deal.”

The cards slid across the table again. One by one. The tension thickened with every movement. No one spoke. No one moved. Even the guards seemed frozen. Mark picked up his cards slowly.

This time, he actually looked at them. Across the table, Tom studied his own hand. Then he smiled. That confident smile had returned. Mark noticed it. “Good cards?” he asked.

Tom chuckled. “Very.”

Mark nodded slightly. “Same here.”

The betting began. Tom pushed forward a massive stack of chips. “All in.”

Gasps filled the room. Everything was already on the table. There was nothing left to bet. Mark stared at the chips quietly. Hundreds of millions of dollars. His parents’ freedom.

Kitara’s company. All resting on this single moment. Kitara held her breath. Leo muttered under his breath. “This is insane…”

Mark slowly pushed his chips forward. “All in.”

The dealer swallowed nervously. “Reveal your hands.”

Tom didn’t hesitate. He placed his cards down with confidence. A powerful combination. Gasps spread through the crowd. “That’s unbeatable. It’s over…”

Even Kitara’s heart sank slightly. Tom leaned back again, smiling. “Good game.”

Mark hadn’t revealed his cards yet. Instead, he stared at the table quietly. Tom noticed. “What’s wrong?”

Mark looked up. “You really think you’ve won?”

Tom chuckled. “Unless you’re hiding a miracle.”

Mark slowly placed his first card down. A King. Then the second. Another King. Whispers spread through the crowd. Tom’s smile faded slightly.

Mark revealed the third card. Another King. Now the room went silent. Tom leaned forward slightly. “That still won’t beat me.”

Mark looked at him calmly. “Who said I was finished?”

He placed the fourth card down. A King of Spades. Four of a kind. The dealer’s mouth fell open. Tom’s eyes widened. The crowd exploded. “No way!”

“That’s impossible!”

“Four Kings?!”

Mark placed the final card down slowly. A useless card. But it didn’t matter. The result was already clear. The dealer’s voice shook slightly. “Winner…”

He swallowed. “…Mark Lawson.”

The room erupted into chaos. People shouted. Guards looked confused. Kitara stared at the table in disbelief. Tom West remained completely still. His face was pale. His undefeated record was gone.

Mark slowly stood up. “Well,” he said quietly.

“I guess lightning struck twice.”

Tom looked up at him. For the first time since the night began,  the legendary gambling king looked like a man who had just lost everything. But then Tom suddenly started laughing. Soft at first.

Then louder. The room slowly went quiet again. Mark frowned slightly. “What’s funny?”

Tom wiped a tear from his eye. “You really think this was the real game?”

The words sent a chill through the room. Tom leaned forward slightly. His smile returned. “You’ve just made yourself a very dangerous enemy.”

Mark’s eyes narrowed. Tom gestured toward the casino. “Enjoy your victory tonight.”

Then he stood up. “Because the real war…”

His voice dropped coldly. “…is only beginning.”

Or recruitment.”Kitara’s eyes hardened. “Or manipulation.”Mark stepped forward, his expression calm but resolute. “Every move

Tom West had escalated the war, but Mark knew one thing: the delivery boy was no longer playing defensively.Kitara Vale parked the car in a dimly lit underground garage, hidden beneath one of the city’s abandoned warehouses. The space smelled of concrete, oil, and dust. A faint hum of electrical wires filled the air. It was the kind of place where secrets could hide and where Mark needed to plan his next move.“Safe for now,” Kitara said, her voice tight, scanning the perimeter. “But this is only temporary. They’ll find us if we stay too long.”Mark nodded, eyes already roaming the dark corners of the garage. “We need information. And we need allies. Tom’s reach is… unprecedented.”Kitara raised an eyebrow. “And you think you can infiltrate that?”Mark smirked faintly. “Not me. We.”Before Kitara could ask what he meant, a door at the far end of the
