Chapter 1: The Debt of Blood
“Please… give us a little more time.”
Mrs. Lawson’s trembling voice echoed through the dim underground room.
The smell of cheap cigars and spilled whiskey filled the air. A group of well-dressed men sat around a polished table, watching the scene like it was a form of entertainment. “Time?” one of the men laughed mockingly. “You’ve had six months already.”
Across the room, Mr. and Mrs. Lawson knelt on the cold marble floor. Their clothes were wrinkled, their faces pale with exhaustion.
Mr. Lawson lowered his head. “We’ll pay it back… I swear. Our son is working hard. Just”
A loud slap cut him off. CRACK!
Mr. Lawson collapsed sideways as a tall guard pulled his hand back. “You poor people always say the same thing,” the guard sneered.
Mrs. Lawson gasped and crawled toward her husband. “Stop! Please stop hurting him!”
The men around the table chuckled. To them, this wasn’t cruelty. It was business. At the head of the table sat a man who had yet to speak.
His name alone made powerful men uneasy. Tom West.
Immaculately dressed in a charcoal suit, he leaned back in his chair while slowly shuffling a deck of cards between his fingers.
The cards moved like living creatures, Smooth, Effortless, Perfect. Not a single person in the room dared interrupt him. Finally, Tom West spoke. His voice was calm… almost bored. “How much do they owe?”
One of the managers quickly checked a tablet. “Principal and interest combined… ten million dollars, Mr. West.”
Mrs. Lawson’s face turned ghostly white. “Ten million?! That’s impossible! We only borrowed.”
Another slap echoed through the room. “Interest,” the guard said coldly.
Tom West flicked a card onto the table. A King of Spades. “You borrowed from my casino,” he said calmly. “That means the rules are mine.”
Mrs. Lawson fell to the ground, tears streaming down her face. “Please… our son doesn’t even know about this. He’s just a delivery driver.”
The room erupted with laughter. “A delivery driver?”
“Ten million dollars?”
“Good luck with that.”
Tom West’s eyes finally lifted from the cards. Cold, Amused “Perhaps your son should work harder.”
Across the city, completely unaware of what was happening, Mark Lawson was racing down a busy street on his electric delivery bike.
A stack of packages was strapped to his back. The rain had started again. Cold droplets soaked through his cheap uniform. A car horn blared behind him. “Move it, idiot!”
Mark swerved slightly, avoiding the angry driver. “Sorry!” he shouted over his shoulder.
The driver rolled down his window. “You delivery rats are everywhere these days!”
Mark forced a small smile and kept riding. He was used to it. Being ignored. Being mocked. Being treated like he didn’t exist. But none of that mattered.
What mattered was the message he had received earlier that morning. His mother’s voice had sounded strange. Trembling. “Mark… if anything happens… promise you’ll take care of yourself.”
He had tried calling her back afterward. But her phone was off. That uneasy feeling still sat heavily in his chest. He shook his head. You’re overthinking it.
His parents were probably just worried about money again. They always were. Mark tightened his grip on the handlebars. “I’ll fix everything soon,” he muttered.
One day, he would save enough money. One day, they wouldn’t struggle anymore. One day, people would stop looking down on him. The towering building ahead came into view. West Dominion Tower.
One of the most powerful corporate buildings in the entire city. Mark checked the delivery address. “Floor 32.” He exhaled. “Another rich client.”
Rich people usually tipped well. Hopefully, today would be one of those days. Just as Mark stepped onto the wide marble steps of the tower entrance, Someone crashed into him. “Ow!”
A woman stumbled forward, nearly falling. Mark quickly grabbed her arm. “Careful!”
The woman steadied herself, brushing her long black hair away from her face. For a moment, Mark froze. She was stunning. Sharp eyes. Elegant suit.
An aura of authority that made nearby employees immediately step aside. One of the security guards rushed forward nervously. “Miss Vale! Are you alright?” Miss Vale?
Mark blinked. Kitara Vale. Even someone like Mark knew that name. She was one of the youngest billionaire CEOs in the country. Kitara glanced at Mark.
Her eyes briefly scanned his soaked uniform and delivery bag. “Thank you,” she said calmly.
Mark scratched the back of his head. “Ah… no problem.”
She paused. Then, surprisingly, asked, “What’s your name?”
“Mark.”
Kitara nodded slightly. “Mark.”
She seemed to remember it. Her assistant quickly approached. “Miss Vale, the board meeting is starting.”
Kitara turned to leave. But before she walked away, she looked back once more. “Be careful,” she said.
Then she disappeared into the building. Mark stared after her. “Well… that was unexpected.”
He shook his head and walked toward the elevator. Meanwhile… Deep inside the building. Below the polished offices. Below the shining conference halls.
A hidden elevator descended into darkness. The doors opened into a luxurious underground casino. Mr. and Mrs. Lawson were still kneeling. Tom West slowly shuffled his cards again.
The sound of the elevator echoed through the room. A guard leaned toward Tom. “Sir, a delivery boy just arrived upstairs.”
Tom didn’t look up. “Then let him deliver.”
The guard nodded. “Of course.”
But neither of them realized something important. The delivery address Mark carried… Was located inside the underground casino.
Back upstairs, Mark frowned as he looked at the delivery instructions. “Basement floor?”
He scratched his head. “Strange.”
The security guard pointed toward a restricted elevator. “Use that one.”
Mark stepped inside. The elevator doors closed. The machine began descending. Floor numbers passed quickly. B1. B2. B3. B4. Mark’s stomach tightened. “Why does a company need four basement levels…?”
The elevator stopped. DING.
The doors opened. Mark stepped out and froze. In front of him, a group of men surrounded two kneeling figures. His breath stopped. “Mom…?”
His delivery bag slipped from his shoulder and hit the floor. Across the room, Mrs. Lawson slowly looked up. Her eyes widened in horror. “Mark?!”
Tom West’s fingers paused mid-shuffle. For the first time that night The legendary gambler looked up. And smiled. “Well,” he said softly.
“Looks like the delivery has arrived.”

Five seconds were all that remained.Five seconds between life and death. Between truth and illusion.
