I could barely believe my eyes at what was staring right in front of me. Was this even real, or was I hallucinating so badly because I wanted revenge against Jeremiah and his hounds? I felt total useless. Was it the fact that I was blind or the fact that Martha had to do most of the house chores. I was on my way to the kitchen yesterday night when I heard her gentle sob. I knew she was tired. The more I tried to make life better for us the more it gets worse. If only I could see again. I remembered what the doctor told me. My site was gone if the truth was told. Helplessness! That was what I was wallowing in. I was so furious with myself that I could barely concentrate. It's been weeks since I was stuck inside my bedroom. I refused to see my mom, who had been my support. She has catered to me ever since I got back home, but everything changed the moment she asked who blinded me. It all felt like yesterday. "Do you see him?" I asked with a shaky voice. "Are you sure?" Martha's voice cracked when I showed her the picture. "I am sure, Mum. He and his friends did this to me." I replied, gulping down the thick saliva at the end of my throat. "We can't press charges." "What? What do you mean we cannot press charges? I am blinded, Mum. I can't see shit!" Martha got up, pacing back and forth. "I am sorry, son, but we cannot." "Care to tell me why you cannot help? Do you know the state I am in right now? I cannot see Mother." My voice cracked, and tears welled up in my face. I don't know what was happening anymore.

The gentle beeping of the machine close to my ears meant just one thing to me. I was not dead. I was in a hospital. I tried to remember what happened. My brain flashed like some electric current through my head, and I winced in pain. I remember it all. The acid that was poured into my eyes. Jeremiah's laughter and the kick to the gut. I remember it like I was reliving the moment again. It hurt! But why was my face blindfolded? I raised my hand slightly to touch the cloth that was tied round my face.
