Later that day, Tessa remained in her room, her face swollen from crying all night. She felt empty, exhausted, and more alone than ever. No matter how many times she tried, she couldn’t reach Adam. At this point, she was convinced—he had blocked her.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

“I’m not hungry, Mom!” she called out dismissively.

She hadn’t eaten all day, despite her mother’s insistence. She assumed it was another attempt to force her to eat—until the door creaked open.

It wasn’t her mother.

“Wendy?” Tessa’s brows furrowed in confusion. “What are you doing here?”

Wendy stood at the doorway, holding a tray of food. The sight alone was enough to unsettle Tessa. They had never gotten along—Wendy had despised her for years. Seeing her act considerate now felt… off.

“I came to make sure you’ve eaten today,” Wendy said, her voice unusually soft.

Tessa narrowed her eyes. “Since when do you care about me? If you’re here to mock me, just get out.”

The meeting was dismissed as everyone left. That same afternoon at the Dragon Company.Adam was seen in a seat, his legs crossed, as a lady walked in. It was Secretary Chen. She walked in with a file, which she dropped on the table in front of him.Adam nodded, unfazed. “So the bidding for the contract will start in the next 30 minutes.”Chen nodded, agreeing quietly. Then she pressed forward, choosing her words carefully. “I… I know it’s not my place to question you, Mr. Adam, but… you already control Bulgart Industries — the largest in the world. Why this interest in Langtech’s future? Why put yourself in the middle of their struggles?“It’s not like you need their profits.”Adam remained silent for a moment, his knuckles resting against his chin in deep thought. “Ava… Ava's story is a mirror of Tessa’s. I know what it feels like to be powerless. To be forced into a corner by people you thought were meant to be family.” His tone dipped just a little — a rare softness beneath all the

Adam remained silent at first — his jaw tightened, a spark of disbelief creeping into his normally composed demeanor. His hands, crossed in front of him, pressed together just a little tighter, knuckles growing white beneath his tailored black gloves.Ava pressed her lips together, trying to keep her voice from faltering under the pressure. “Grandmother… please… tell me… Why?”Her words fell into a piercing silence. The room seemed to tremble under the weight of her question — all eyes darted back and forth between Ava and Christie.Ava pressed on, her confidence faltering just a bit but not entirely gone. “LangTech isn’t going bankrupt… we’re going through a tough quarter, sure, but we’re far from finished. Furthermore… my father… my father built LangTech with his own two hands… without the Langston’s wealth… without anyone else's help.”Christie remained icy and immovable, piercing Ava with a piercing stare. “Your father… is a Langston… whether you wish it or not.”Ava fell silent.

The room fell into a chorus of hushed sneers and gossip once more. Isabella crossed her arms, a mischievous glimmer creeping into her piercing green eyes. “Did you see how Ava tried to justify it?” she said quietly to Carson, a dramatic sigh escaping her lips. “Bringing a mere driver into our board meeting… It’s humiliating for the Langston name.”Carson nodded, clicking his pen against the conference table in agitation. “Exactly. It shows weakness. It shows poor judgment. She shouldn’t be sitting in that seat.”Isabella pressed her advantage, dropping her voice even lower. “Don’t you find it strange how protective she is of him, though?”Carson raised an eyebrow, suspicion creeping into his tone. “Protective… or… something more?”Before their gossip could spiral further, the massive wooden doors at the back of the room opened. Everyone fell silent and stood up in a rush — a chorus of “Good morning, Grandmother Christie” filled the space.Christie Langston entered gracefully, wearing

  • Chapter 259

The next morning came quickly — the day of the Langston Empire’s board meeting.Adam pressed his foot on the brake, and the black sedan came to a smooth halt in front of Langston Tower. The sleek, shimmering skyscraper seemed taller today, more intimidating — a castle made of glass and steel.Ava opened the rear door and stepped out gracefully, smoothing her tailored suit and lifting her chin. She turned back toward the car and said quietly, “Okay… you can wait for me here. the meeting would probably take two hours.”Adam remained sitting, hands on the steering wheel. “I’m going in with you.”Ava pressed her lips together in a tight line. “You can’t. The board meeting is for members only.”Adam sighed, opened his door, and walked around to her side. His expression remained firm, unfazed by her resistance. “I’m not here as a guest. I’m here as your security. That’s the job I signed up for — protecting you, wherever you go.”Ava crossed her arms. “This isn’t a nightclub. It’s a closed m

The doctor pressed his forehead against the icy metal wall, his knuckles white against it. His voice faltered. “I… I honestly… I have no idea where the other labs are… or where the captives are kept.”Adam tightened his grip briefly, then sighed and let him go. “how could you not know anything? you're just useless.”The doctor nodded weakly. “All I know is… there are more… many more… Scientists like me… soldiers… creatures… all working under Cross-Blood’s orders. But I… I don't know where… please… please, I’m not a monster… just… a tool.”For a moment, silence fell — heavy, oppressive, filled with promises of future danger. Adam turned away, pressed a small button on his earpiece, and called Voss.“Voss.”“Yes, boss?” Voss’s voice crackled in his ear.“Call the police… and the ambulance. Get everyone in this lab — soldiers, doctor… all of them — into proper custody.”“Got it.”Adam exhaled and pressed forward. “And we need to talk… about what comes next.”A few minutes later, Voss sto

The alarm wailed, bouncing off metal and tile, a piercing chorus that seemed to celebrate the monstrosities now staggering off their gurneys.Adam tightened his knuckles, exhaling a deep, icy breath. His pulse remained calm — nearly impossible under the pressure — but a spark glimmered in his eyes.He darted forward, a silhouette against a riot of purple-eyed soldiers. His first punch landed squarely against a massive shoulder — normally enough to stagger a grown man — but this specimen barely budged. Instead, it grabbed Adam’s wrist with a grip like a vice.Adam tried to break free, shifting his weight and adding force, but the creature remained anchored, immovable. With a single squeeze, it nearly crushed his wrist, forcing him back a step.“That’s what I’m talking about.” The doctor’s voice rose above the alarm, a sinister thread tying chaos together. He pressed against a control rail, smiling through bloody lips. “Did you really think you’d match them… match us?”He staggered forw
