He had taken enough. And now, he was ready to take everything back. He was out of the company already and walking away from it aimlessly, thinking about returning to the mansion where he was told Laura now lived.
But just as he reached the pavement, a voice called out behind him. He recognized the voice so well that he ha’d to turn immediately.
“Boss! Boss, wait!”
Scott faced him. It was Mr. Evans, the aging accountant with his grey hair and hurried steps, was rushing out the front doors of the company, breathing heavily. His tie fluttered with the wind as he caught up to Scott.
“I’m taking a huge risk by meeting up with you outside here. I might even sacked if caught by the manager. But…” he said halfway, and then he brought out a piece of paper.
“Sir,” he said, panting. “There’s something else. Something important that you need to know but I couldn’t tell you in there.”
Scott narrowed his eyes. “What is it?”
Evans glanced around nervously, like he was afraid someone might be listening. “It’s Laura… and Gale. They’re not done yet.”
Scott’s fists clenched again. “What now?”
“Laura and Gale are hosting a grand event tonight,” Evans explained, speaking fast. “They’re selling the last piece of your property—the final asset you transferred to Laura before prison. The one you swore to keep in the family forever, SCOTTSPACE LTD.”
Scott’s eyes turned sharp. “They’re selling it?”
Evans nodded grimly. “It’s happening tonight. It is happening this evening at a very big venue with only VIP guests. Gale made sure it’s a massive affair. They plan to use the money to fund their wedding.”
Scott’s voice dropped. “He’s a billionaire. Why sell my property to fund his wedding?”
Evans looked away. “Because it’s easy money. Gale doesn’t care—it’s all under Laura’s name. Legally, they can do it. But morally… it’s disgusting. Laura just wants to wipe out everything that belongs to you, whether she needs the money or not.”
Scott’s jaw tensed. “And Laura agreed…”
“She’s the one who signed the sale papers,” Evans said softly.
The silence between them lasted only a moment before Scott turned on his heel.
“Where’s the venue?”
Evans blinked, startled by the sudden question. “It’s the Harrington Grand Plaza downtown. Here is the full address, Sir,” he said, giving Scott the piece of paper in his hands.
Scott gave a short nod. “Then that’s where I’m going.”
By evening, the sky had darkened, but the Harrington Grand Plaza was blazing with light.
Cars lined up at the entrance. Expensive black sedans, limousines, sports cars were all parked outside of the venue. Security men in black suits stood at the gate, scanning each guest thouroghly before allowing them in.
Scott walked down the sidewalk with quiet steps, blending in with the darkness for a moment. But as he stepped into the glow of the plaza’s lights, his presence shifted everything.
He approached the front gate calmly.
One of the bouncers, a tall man with an earpiece, immediately stepped forward and blocked him.
“Hold it right there,” the guard said, eyeing him up and down with distaste. “Name?”
Scott didn’t answer.
The bouncer frowned. “I said, what’s your name, are you dumb or something?”
Scott’s eyes were calm, but the expression on his face was blank.
The bouncer took a slow step closer, now clearly annoyed. “You’re not on the guest list,” he said flatly. “This event is for strong, rich, and powerful men. Not for people dressed like they just crawled out of a sewage tunnel.”
Scott didn’t move.
“You shouldn’t even be a security guard here,” the man continued, voice dripping with mockery. “What are you? Some washed-up ex-con looking for leftovers?”
Still, Scott didn’t say a word.
Instead, he reached into his back pocket slowly and pulled out a small leather wallet.
He flipped it open.
The guard leaned in, and froze immediately.
Staring back at him was a military ID with Scott’s photo. But not just any ID, this was the badge of a High-Ranking Officer, someone whose clearance ranked higher than generals. A classification few had ever seen with their own eyes.
That ID from the military gave him a free pass to any place he wanted to go. This was because the government believed the holder of the card would be a war hero before earning that kind of card.
The guard’s eyes widened, his mouth parting slightly. His fingers trembled.
“I—I’m sorry, sir,” he stammered, stepping back instantly. “I… I didn’t know…”
Scott didn’t reply. His face remained cold, even after the pass had been granted.
“Please forgive me, sir,” the guard said quickly, now bowing slightly, completely shaken. “Top clearance—of course you’re allowed in. Please, go right in.”
Scott slid the ID back into his pocket and stepped through the gate without sparing the man another glance.
Inside, the event was already in full swing.
But none of it mattered to Scott. He didn’t come for the party.
His eyes swept across the hall like a hawk. He ignored the music, the laughter, and the speeches. He was looking for Laura.
But she wasn’t there.
He walked further in, walking through the people that were at the gathering.
Then all of a sudden, he heard the voice.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” said a proud tone on the stage, through a microphone. “Thank you for making this evening a memorable one.”
Scott turned.
And to his surprise, his eyes caught the speaker at once. It was him, it was Gale Harrington.
Gale Harrington stood tall on the platform, dressed in a grey tuxedo, his black hair neatly brushed back. His smile was smooth and confident.
“Tonight,” Gale said, “we close a chapter. This property sale marks the final piece of a great business transformation. A toast to evolution, growth, and the bright future ahead.”
The crowd clapped.
Scott’s eyes burned into him.
Gale raised his glass of champagne. “And, of course, to my lovely bride-to-be, Laura. Though she couldn’t make it here tonight for long, she sends her love—and her signature.” He chuckled softly. “After all, she owns this company.”
Scott gritted his teeth at the sound of what he had just heard, his heart thumping. His last property was gone…

ABC TECHNOLOGIES The heavy glass door to the conference room clicked shut. Everyone seated at the long table avoided eye contact. No one dared speak first.Scott stood at the far end of the table, his back to the room, both hands braced on the surface as he stared down at a single sheet of paper — the email from Skyview Horizon. His jaw flexed, the faintest muscle moving under his skin. The calm that usually made him look so controlled now felt dangerous, like the stillness of a storm before it hit. Finally, he spoke.“Skyview Horizon has pulled out of the deal.”The words were soft, but the room heard the weight behind them.Murmurs rippled quietly through the conference room. A few employees exchanged uncertain glances, their pens tapping nervously against their notepads.Scott straightened slowly as he turned to face them. “Does anyone,” he began, his voice steady and even, “want to explain to me how this happened?”Silence. His eyes swept the table — from the marketing head to t

Freya sat at her desk, her elbows resting on the smooth surface while her fingers tapped lightly against the edge of a file she wasn’t even reading. Her eyes were fixed on the computer screen, but her mind was miles away from anything work-related. The cursor blinked on an empty document. Her thoughts were tangled — looping back to the same problem over and over again. How was she supposed to get Scott’s phone? He never left it lying around. Not once. He carried his phone everywhere, either in his hand or tucked neatly into the pocket of his trousers. He treated it like an extension of himself, a necessary tool he couldn’t afford to misplace. That, for Freya, was a nightmare. She needed the CEO’s number — Richard Thornton’s direct contact — and she needed it now. If she didn’t get it, the deal between Skyview Horizon and ABC Technologies would go through without interference, and Scott’s company would gain a level of influence. She couldn’t let that happen. Not after all the effort sh
Chapter 175
Freya arrived at ABC Technologies before the building had fully opened. The air inside still carried the faint scent of floor polish, and the lights along the hallway glowed with that sleepy, early-morning dimness. She had barely slept a wink, yet her face showed none of it. The dull ache behind her eyes, the heaviness in her limbs, the constant buzz of exhaustion — she hid it all beneath the calm mask she had mastered long ago.Her desk sat neatly by the large window at the far end of the corridor. She dropped her bag there and sat for a moment, just long enough to let the chair take her weight. She rubbed her temple briefly and exhaled, thinking back to the hours she’d spent the previous night combing through files and trying to trace one name — Richard Thornton. But still she wasn't able to get the direct contact of the man or find any way to reach him directly.Every attempt had hit a wall. Thornton’s number wasn’t public, and the company directories were locked tighter than a vau

FREYA'S HOUSE Freya’s laptop screen illuminated her face in the darkened room. Her long fingers moved across the keyboard, eyes flicking between the search bar and the results that appeared on the screen.Lines of information scrolled before her, and finally, there it was.Skyview HorizonFreya’s brows lifted slightly. “So, this is what you’re working on, Scott Grayson,” she murmured under her breath, clicking on the company’s profile. The page loaded quickly. A modern blue-and-silver logo appeared at the top, followed by bold text that read: Skyview Horizon — A Global Leader in Strategic Technology Investments.Freya leaned forward, her eyes narrowing as she began to read. “Founded twelve years ago… specialized in funding large-scale tech infrastructures… currently holding minority stakes in over thirty start-ups across five countries,” she read quietly, scanning each line. “Impressive. But what are you doing with Scott?”She clicked open another tab, cross-referencing what she saw

ABC TECHNOLOGIES The sky outside the tall glass windows of ABC Technologies was already dim. Most employees were either leaving or gathering their things to call it a day. Freya exhaled softly, running her fingers through her hair as she looked around her desk. Her first day had been long — exhausting, even — but it had also been productive. She smoothed her blouse and straightened the few papers on her desk before glancing at the clock on the wall. It was past six. A small smile tugged at her lips. Time to wrap up.After a quick check of her reflection in the small mirror she kept in her drawer, she stood and walked toward Scott’s office. As soon as she reached Scott's office, she pushed the door gently and peeked in.Scott was still at his desk, sleeves rolled up, eyes fixed on his laptop. He looked tired but focused.Freya leaned slightly against the doorway, her tone soft. “Sir?”Scott looked up almost immediately, his brown eyes meeting hers. “Yes, Miss Hayes?”She smiled polite
Chapter 172
Freya slumped into the chair in her small office, letting out a long, tired sigh as she dropped a stack of papers onto her desk. Her body sank deep into the chair’s leather cushion, her shoulders heavy with exhaustion. She tilted her head back and exhaled slowly, staring at the ceiling for a few seconds before dragging her hands down her face.“Unbelievable,” she muttered under her breath, her voice laced with irritation. “It’s my first day, and they’re already trying to kill me with work.”She glanced at the clock — nearly 5 p.m. She had been running errands and shuffling through files since morning, barely getting a moment to breathe. The man Scott had assigned to brief her earlier — Mr. Collins, the head of the operations department — had been relentless.Freya groaned softly, remembering how he had gone on and on for hours about company structure, report formats, and approval hierarchies. She could still hear his droning voice in her head.“...and make sure the file is cross-refe
