The laughter from the ceremony still rang in Rex's ears as he stood alone on the stage. His earthworm floated in the air for a few more seconds, wiggling like it was confused about existing, then dropped to the marble floor with a wet splat.

The hall had gone quiet except for scattered snickers and whispers.

"All that drama for a worm?"

"I thought he was going to summon a dragon for a second there."

"Guess the cursed bloodline strikes again."

Rex could feel Darius's stare burning into him from the side of the stage. The man's jaw was tight, his eyes hard with barely controlled anger. Rex had just shattered a three-hundred-year-old artifact, one of the most valuable relics in the city, only to summon something that looked like fishing bait.

He snapped his hands and then, a few mages appeared, their beast floating right above them as they magically gathered the orb and floated away.

"Guess you found your way into the academy!" Darius noted with a frown handling Rex a room key and a card.

It was the rule of equality that the 11 founding families of the city had sworn to abide by.

Anyone that awakened a beast would have the opportunity to go to the arcane academy, learn about their beast and possibly improve on their beast ranking, depending on their current ranks.

Harold shrugged forward with a deep frown.

"He can't have that!" He snarled.

"You should understand that he can never fit into our world, not in this lifetime or in the next.

And that thing should not even classify as a beast, just a squish and it would return to the pathetic hellhole it came from.

And besides, his parents added nothing to the society, and the arcane was built on the tax money paid by nobility and other average people.

Why should they reap where they haven't sown?" Harold spoke with so much hatred and disdain. He just couldn't imagine breathing the same air as someone so pathetic.

"I'm sorry sir Harold but this status was established by the founding families. If you have a case, you could take it up with the council!"

Harold growled under his breath.

"I'm afraid that there is nothing we can do!"

Harold turned towards Rex with so much viciousness that could make the blood of anyone freeze.

"If you have any IQ in that brain of yours, you would understand that with that thing, you wouldn't be able to do anything.

So it's better if you take the pathetic path of your parents, at least then, you wouldn't have to waste your years, attempting to have something that is beyond your reach!" He stomped his foot and walked away from the hall, others followed him and soon the hall thinned out, leaving just him in the hall.

He knew exactly where everyone went. Before coming here, he did all his possible studies and understood that they had gone to the test ground halls.

There, equipment for every beast possible could be found, ranging from strength testing for the deer clan to assassin kits for the snake clean.

However, Rex wasn't ready to move just yet as his mind raced with possibilities.

"I think I get your point a little but you should give the little guy a try!"

Rex jolted slightly, thinking that he had been alone in the vast room.

The shy boy he remembered as Gerald said as he gradually walked away.

Rex waited without saying anything, until night fell.

Then he walked to the training ground that was now empty. There wasn't any prescribed testing for his beast that walked lazily behind him and crawled dead and Rex was almost irritated by it.

The beast crawled up lazily behind him while Rex held his breath right in place.

He brought equipment for each particular thing he wanted to test, a round ring for agility, a strength dummy for strength and a floating ring for sky flight.

It was usually said that each beast could hear their master after the initial awakening, but looking at his beast, Rex had other thoughts.

He quickly pushed them away.

"I believe in your little guy!" He said.

"Just slide through this ring, let's know what you are made of!" He said, almost too polite, but the beast only stared in lazy mockery.

"Seems that wrong. How about you slam against the dummy!" But the response wasn't any better.

For the next one hour, Rex had a thousand multiple mood swings, given different orders each with different tones only to end up achieving nothing.

And with every path of his body screaming in pain, he collapsed right beside his beast.

A deep sigh escaped from his lips. "Seems the only thing you can do is crawl and leave a trail of slime. That makes two pathetic individuals here!" He muttered painfully.

A few moments later, he noticed the beast walking away mindlessly without any orders.

"Where are you heading to!" His order was ignored again.

"Come back here you pathetic little prick!" Rex growled.

But the only thing he got was a shitty look. Then he noticed what it was heading for. A skin that had been left behind by a snake that must have evolved.

And within seconds, the earthlings devoured it like someone that had not tasted a meal in decades.

Just then, something happened, the scales, beautiful and shiny like ruby encased the beast, a horn grew at the top of its head and a straight line of fur floated and lined it back.

Everything breathed royalty.

The beast floated back towards Rex with prideful royalty and stared at the challenges like they were nothing.

He slided through the rings, slammed hard against the dummy and floated with so much precision into the floating ring.

The numbers rang up in waves, and the whole place shook..

The astonishing numbers that were revealed caused Rex to gawk and fall back in his steps.

'A thousand and 20'

That was the state that the books always ascribed to ruby class beasts and his beast had crossed it with so much ease.

While he was still lost in his awe, the beast floated back to his side, chin high up, eyes squinting with noble mockery, before slowly returning to its original form.

"TF." Was the only words that Rex could utter at the sight that almost seemed too good to be true.

"Hiding so that no one would catch you training here.

Maybe I could help with that and also crush out of existence, that pathetic rubbish that shouldn't exist in the first instance." A vermin laced voice sliced right through Rex's being.

Rex was forced to take another peek at his nonchalant looking beast.Lung's mockery soon melted into a scoff, slowly trotting towards his direction with renewed laziness and pride."I don't know if you're just slow but you should realize already that I'm not a regular beast. Even the most simple things for other beasts requires extensive rituals for me! At least after the third trial you should have gotten that! I didn't expect you to be also dumb amongst other things!"Those words stung Rex to his bones. Emma's eyes glimmered as she waited for a response. "We can discuss the details over dinner." He handed an invitation card over and she attempted to go with him but Rex quickly stopped her, a frown glazing over his face."Should I have to remind you that we have our first training session today?"Those words caused Emma to scoff and roll her eyes at the same time."That's the point that you are not getting Mr. Trash, I would give anything just to be the farthest away from you that I possibly can! Besides, who wouldn't want to have fun with someone like Harold instead of wasting time with a cursed bloodline failure!"Harold's face lit up with triumph. He slid close to Rex and whispered into his hearing with venom dripping from every word."Don't worry about the training, Rex

The guardian quickly replied, apologies filling his voice but Emma wouldn't take it.She turned to Rex."You did this deliberately didn't you? You couldn't keep that slacked d**k to yourself and decided to ruin my life with your horniness didn't you!” The cores of the halls shook by her ravaging again. She paused, then her eyes grew wild.“You have to forfeit, right now!" She glared at Rex like he was something that crawled out of the gutters."You're not the only one who's unsatisfied by the results Emma, I would have done that already before you even thought of it if that were possible." Rex replied calmly. But it only flared Emma's rage even further. "And who do you think is stupid enough to believe such lies? You've been stalking me for so long, I am sure you

"You! What have you done!"Rex had almost forgotten that he was with someone in the hall.Annoid jerked up from the ground with a growl, his eyes maddened with rage."I'm going to make sure that you're dead!" He attacked Rex who slid out of the way and shoved a fist into his stomach, sending him flying through the hall.Rex was shocked at the impact of the fist that connected, his body feeling every bit lighter. Blood poured from Annoid's mouth and he instantly fainted."We need to leave right now!" said Rex.Annoid was still nobility and he had not grown enough to start throwing everyone's dead weight around or he would be dead any moment. "And you need to change back to your initial form, people are afraid of what they do not know and we would not want anyone experimenting on you. For Annoid, we will find an explanation later!"Lung grumbled before returning back to his original form.Soon, Rex was in the waiting room where they would stay for a few weeks and learn about the arcane

"What are you doing, Jim?! Stop! You should be attacking him, not yourself!" he screamed with a cracking voice. But the snake didn't even flinch at his voice. It didn't hear him. It just kept biting into its own flesh, tearing its own scales, chewing its own body apart like it was the most natural thing in the world.Fear slammed through Annoid's spine in cold waves. He turned toward Rex, rage and panic mixing in his voice."Tell that demon to stop whatever it did to my Jim right now!"He pointed a shaking finger. "You know my family! You know how powerful we are!
