The roar of engines shattered the afternoon quiet of the industrial district.

A convoy of six blacked-out SUVs tore into the muddy lot of the Daniel Logistics Warehouse, flanking a pristine, elongated Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Underneath the chassis of a rusted 18-wheeler, Noah Stone paused, his wrench frozen on a bolt.

He wiped a smear of grease from his cheek, narrowing his eyes as the convoy screeched to a halt just yards from his boots.

The doors of the SUVs flew open in unison.

Twelve men in sharp black suits spilled out, forming a defensive perimeter with the discipline of special forces.

Then, the rear door of the Rolls-Royce opened.

A woman stepped out, her high heels sinking slightly into the cracked asphalt, yet she walked with the grace of a queen approaching her throne.

She was breathtaking—a vision of icy perfection with amber hair swept up in a severe, elegant bun and a charcoal business suit that cost more than the warehouse itself.

However, her looks were nothing on the woman's presence.

Her aura alone was suffocating; even the air around her seemed to vibrate with her authority.

She ignored the mud, ignored the staring warehouse workers, her grey eyes darting frantically, searching... then locking onto the pair of legs sticking out from under the truck.

Her breath hitched.

It was him! He was really here!

"Chairman!" she exclaimed, her voice cracking with a mixture of disbelief, relief, and uncontainable joy.

She rushed forward, her composure momentarily shattered, her hand flying to her mouth as if to stifle a sob. "It is you! After all this time... I can't believe it!"

Noah slid out from under the truck on his creeper, blinking against the sunlight and finally seeing the entourage of people practically standing over his station.

He stood up quickly, wiping his oil-stained hands on his filthy coveralls, eyes nervously flying between the emotional woman and her stoic entourage. "Uh, ma’am, you’re blocking the loading bay. If you’re looking for the office, it’s around back."

But the woman didn’t move, her eyes wide and brimming with tears, tracing the lines of his face as if confirming he was real.

Instead, she did something that made the watching security guards gasp.

She bowed.

A perfect, ninety-degree bow of absolute respect.

"I am Rebecca Stane, your Chief of Staff," she declared, her voice ringing clear, though still trembling with emotion. "For years, the Nexus Group has been without our head. We have searched the world for you, clinging to the hope that we would find you. Please... please come home, Chairman Noah."

Noah stared at her blankly, then let out a dry, tired laugh. "Nexus Group? The conglomerate worth billions? Look at me." He gestured to his stained uniform, his cheap boots, the sweat dripping down his nose. "I’m just a mechanic, ma'am. You’ve clearly got the wrong guy."

"I am not mistaken! It is you, Noah! I would know you anywhere!" Rebecca insisted, stepping closer, her voice filled with desperate conviction. "You disappeared after the accident three years ago! We were devastated! We thought we'd lost you forever!"

At this, Noah paused.

It was true that his past was a blank and that three years ago, his father-in-law had found him washed up on a riverbank in a coma.

When he woke, he remembered nothing—not his family, not his home, nothing but the name 'Noah.'

But a billionaire chairman? That was absurd.

"I don't know you," Noah finally said, his voice firm. "And I don't care what you have to say. I have a life here. Please. Leave before my boss sees you and makes my life even more difficult.”

But the woman shook her head, adamant," No! It's possible your memory may be gone, but your identity is undeniable. You are the king of the Global Market. You are—"

"I’m busy!" Noah snapped, turning back to the truck.

He didn't have time for delusions.

Today was his third anniversary with Nicole.

He needed to finish this shift to afford the steak for tonight. "Take your lies somewhere else."

Rebecca frowned, mouth opening to speak before being interrupted by a shout.

"Hey! Stone!"

The screeching voice of the warehouse supervisor, fat-necked Gary, cut through the air.

Gary waddled out of the office, his face red with fury.

"What the hell is this?" Gary screamed, stomping toward Noah. "I told you to fix that transmission, not flirt with tramps in the parking lot! You lazy piece of shit!"

Noah’s jaw tightened. "Sir, I am working. These people are just—"

"Shut up!" Gary spat, stepping into Noah’s personal space, his finger jabbing into Noah’s chest. "Don't you forget I own you Stone! You were nothing but a useless gimp when I picked up off the street and you have the audacity to slack off?! I’ll dock your pay for a month! Now get on your knees and scrub this oil off the pavement before I fire you!"

The temperature in the lot seemed to drop twenty degrees instantly.

"Who..." Rebecca’s voice was low, almost soft. "...gave you permission to speak to him like that?"

Gary turned, sneering at the beautiful woman. "Who are you? His sugar mummy? Get your fancy car off my lot before I-"

CRACK.

The sound was like a gunshot.

Rebecca moved faster than her size suggested, her hand flinging out and connecting with Gary’s face, the force of the slap lifting the two-hundred-pound man off his feet.

He spun in the air and crashed into a stack of pallets, blood spraying from a split lip.

"You filthy insect," Rebecca hissed, looming over him.

The twelve bodyguards instantly drew batons, their eyes cold, ready to tear the pathetic man apart with one word from the terrifying woman.

"You dare insult the Chairman? I should cut out your tongue!"

Gary scrambled backward, whimpering in terror, clutching his swelling face.

He looked at the woman, then at the bodyguards, realizing he was seconds away from death.

"Stop!" Noah yelled.

He stepped between Rebecca and the terrified supervisor.

"What the hell is your problem!?"

He wasn't protecting Gary out of kindness—he was protecting his own life. If this woman humiliated or maimed his boss and then disappeared in her fancy limousine, Gary would take every ounce of that resentment out on him. Noah couldn't lose this job. He had a family to feed, bills that didn't care about his pride.

Rebecca froze.

The murderous rage vanished instantly, replaced by that same look of desperate devotion.

She lowered her head. "I... I apologize for my loss of temper, Chairman. But seeing him humiliate you..."

"I. Don't. Care," Noah spat, pointing to the gate. "Leave. Now."

Rebecca bit her lip, looking at his unyielding expression.

She knew that look. Even with his memory gone, his will was iron. She couldn't force him.

Reluctantly, she reached into her blazer and pulled out a sleek, matte-black card with a gold lion emblem and a tarnished silver ring.

She pressed them into Noah’s greasy hand.

"This is an Apex sovereign platinum card. The card itself has no limit. It's yours to use however you see fit. The PIN is your birthday: 0719," she said, pressing them into his calloused hand. "And this ring… it belonged to your mother. You always wore it. Perhaps it will spark a memory."

"I can't take these," Noah protested, trying to hand them back.

Rebecca closed his fingers around them. "Just keep them. If you ever need anything, anything at all, you know how to reach us." She paused, her eyes searching his. "The world awaits your return, Chairman."

With a final, lingering look, she turned and walked away, her bodyguards falling into step behind her.

The sleek black cars glided away, leaving Noah standing alone in the grimy warehouse.

Noah looked at the items in his hand.

Insanity, he thought incredulously, complete and total insanity.

He shoved them into his pocket, helped a shaking Gary up, who flinched away from him as if he was going to hit him next, and went back to work.

***

The rest of the workday crawled by. By the time the clock hit five, Noah was exhausted, his muscles aching, his mind still buzzing with the strange encounter.

But the thought of seeing Nicole, of celebrating their anniversary, spurred him on.

He walked out of the warehouse, picturing Nicole's smile.

She had been working herself to the bone lately as her startup, Nicholson Industries, was finally on the verge of a breakthrough.

He wanted to remind her that he was her rock, her support, no matter what.

But his hopeful thoughts were shattered when a sleek, white Mercedes pulled up to the curb, blocking his path.

Noah froze.

He recognized the car.

He had seen it parked outside their apartment building several times in the past few weeks, but he had dismissed it as coincidence.

The passenger door swung open, and Nicole stepped out.

She was stunning, dressed in a white designer dress that accentuated her curves, her blonde hair perfectly coiffed.

She looked every inch the successful CEO, a far cry from the timid woman he had married three years ago.

But her face was cold, devoid of the warmth he had come to cherish.

From the driver's side emerged Steven Crestwood, heir to the Crestwood family, one of the city's wealthiest and most influential lineages.

He was the epitome of arrogance as he adjusted his silk tie with a sneer, his eyes flicking over Noah with undisguised contempt.

Noah just blinked at the man. What the hell was he doing here? And more importantly what the hell was he doing with his wife?

"Nicky?" Noah walked towards her, instinctively trying to wipe the grease from his hands. "What are you doing here? I was just about to head home to start dinner…"

"We need to talk, Noah," she interrupted, her voice flat, impersonal.

"Here? Can't it wait until we get home?" Noah glanced at Steven, a knot of unease tightening in his stomach.

He already knew something was terribly wrong.

"No," Nicole said, avoiding his gaze. "It can't wait. And I won't be going back to that apartment. Not with you."

Steven chuckled, a sound that grated on Noah's nerves.

He stepped forward, placing a possessive hand on Nicole's waist. "What Nicole is trying to say, loser, is that she's upgrading and she's leaving you. You're yesterday's news, pal. Time to move on."

A cold fury began to simmer within Noah.

He looked at Steven, then back at Nicole, his eyes searching for an explanation, a denial or even an apology.

Anything but this.

He swallowed thickly, feeling bile rise to his throat,"Is that true, Nicole?"

Nicole took a deep breath, her shoulders slumping slightly. Finally, she met his gaze, her eyes filled with a mixture of regret and… Shrewdness.

"Noah, look at you. And look at me. I'm the CEO of Nicholson Industries now. My company is about to explode, to become something huge and put me into the path of the elite. I need a partner who can help me navigate that world, someone who brings resources and connections to the table."

She paused, her voice hardening. " Noah,  you're not on my level anymore. All you're doing is holding me back."

She took a breath.

“I want a divorce."

The words were like a physical blow.

Three years of sacrifice, of unwavering support, reduced to nothing.

He had poured his heart and soul into their marriage, believing in her dreams, not even considering having any of his own, all to make sure she had the best life he could give her.

And now, she was discarding him like a worn-out toy.

"So, that's it? You're trading me in for him?" Noah spat, gesturing towards Steven, his voice laced with disbelief and anger. "After everything we've been through? You're just throwing it all away for a shot at the high life?"

Nicole flinched, but her expression remained resolute. "Steven understands my ambitions, my needs. He can open doors that you can't even imagine. This isn't personal, Noah. It's business."

Steven smirked. "That's right. Nicole needs a man who can handle her success, not some grease-stained nobody."

Not wasting anymore time, Nicole reached into her purse and pulled out the divorce papers with a slim envelope. "Here. This is a settlement money. It's five hundred thousand dollars. It should be enough to get you started after you move out."

At this, Steven snorted. "Take the money, grease monkey. It's more than you'll ever see working here. You should be grateful."

Noah balled his fists, his knuckles white. "Shut your mouth, Crestwood. This doesn't concern you." He turned back to Nicole, his voice rising. “Settlement money? That’s what my years of support, sacrifice, and love amount to for you? A payoff?”

Theyd been married for three years. And he had poured almost every ounce of his energy into their marriage.

Every decision he made, every sacrifice, was for herfor them. His career, his dreams, his timethey all took a backseat to her happiness.

Nicole had always been his priority.

And now, this was what he got. How ironic!

Nicole just shook her head, eyes falling to the ground between them. “It's over Noah. I have nothing more to say to you. Just…. Take the money and go."

Noah's breath hitched, his eyes filling with tears that he refused to let fall.

The pain of the betrayal was a sharp, agonizing ache in his chest that seemed to grow with each second.

But beneath it, something else was stirring… a cold, hard resolve.

"I don't want your money," he whispered, his voice flat, devoid of emotion.

"Stupid," Steven sneered. "You're going to turn down half a million dollars just because of your worthless pride? It's pathetic."

"I said, I don't want it, damnit!" Noah snarled.

“ If you’ve decided to leave, I won’t stop you. But don’t try to buy what we had. We weren’t a transaction, Nicole.” He sneered, his gaze fixed on Nicole.

With a shaking hand, he reached into his pocket and took out a pen.

Then he took the divorce papers from Nicole's hand,  signed his name with a flourish: Noah Stone.

And I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't help you because you wouldn't let me."Rebecca's voice was thick when she finally spoke. "Chantel...""I thought about you constantly," Chantel continued, her voice breaking. "I couldn't eat. I couldn't sleep. I kept imagining the worst, kept thinking that something had happened to you and I would never see you again. And you didn't even think to call me. I….I didn't mean to hurt you."Chantel turned to face her, her eyes bright with unshed tears. "Do you feel anything for me? I need to remember her."Noah leaned forward, his eyes fixed on the screen."It started when she reached out to me," Nathaniel continued, his voice carrying a note of something almost like wonder.
