Theon’s gaze locked on the next wave. Four of them.

Two reptilian brutes shaped like alligators, their backs armored with thorny scales that caught the light like fractured metal. One rodent-shaped thing reared on two legs, claws clicking against stone. And a short, stocky wood brahman, its shoulders hunched like it carried the weight of a mountain.

None of them looked as terrifying as the hecephalus. But Theon saw it anyway; the dust rising behind them, the silhouettes of more beasts cresting

Ding! Hatred count rising! Hatred count rising to twelve thousand three hundred! Congratulations! You've crossed the bloodlust level one threshold where monstrous beasts can smell you from miles away! Theon’s smile froze mid-air and cracked like dry glass. Ah? He could understand the hatred count climbing. Hatred made him stronger. Every drop fed the core, sharpened the blade. But why was the System still pushing his bloodlust level up? Ha! Was he supposed to clap and cheer because monstrous and demonic beasts would now hunt him by scent? Because every predator within miles would mark him as their greatest enemy? Should he jump for joy? That was a death sentence wrapped in confetti. And the System had the nerve to add “Congratulations” like it was a festival gift. “System! You…” His snarl snapped off. The ground shook. The next beast tide slammed into him, fifteen thick bodies crashing through the sand like a landslide. “Shit! Shit! Are more still coming?” “Congratulatio

But Theon saw it anyway; the dust rising behind them, the silhouettes of more beasts cresting the dune. Another wave was coming. And another after that. If he didn’t end these four fast, he’d be buried.“Warning! Host! Someone is keeping surveillance on level twelve.”Theon’s lips pulled back in a mocking sneer. “Of course. Who else but Solvyn can waltz into the control room and watch to see if the beasts finally did what he couldn’t?” A dry laugh escaped him. “Funny. Truly funny.”He must’ve seen the hecephalus drop. Must be tearing through every memory he had, trying to decode how Th

The more Solvyn watched the more suspicious he became. Theon’s movement looked nothing like a spirit gathering realm trash who couldn't even protect himself. Then his eyes noticed the beasts in the distance. The woman behind stifled a gasp. “What's that?”Wave after wave of deadly beasts were approaching Theon from all corners, surrounding him, as if an invisible magnet was attracting them. Even Reza didn't have the ability to initiate a beast tide of that level. Why on earth were all the beasts rushing in his direction? Solvyn’s lips curled, eyes glinting. “Alright you little brat. So that was your game?”From the looks of it, Theon wouldn't survive the day. Even he, Solvyn, wouldn't have the confidence to be victorious when trapped in a beast tide of such magnitude, and more were waking up to join the march against him. Theon was certainly done for this time. Before his eyes, the hecephalus fell lifelessly to the ground. His heart stopped. “What? How's that possible? That was a

NYXAR DOMINION, CONTROL ROOMSolvyn stood in a hidden chamber watching as Reza adjusted and tampered with the portal system, specifically singling out Theon and tapping level twelve. Theon’s bracelet flashed red at the spot, and he disappeared from the platform where other kids were waiting to be taken. Reza's lip turned up in a wicked smirk. He looked left, right, backwards, before finally sneaking out. Solvyn chuckled and shook his head. A woman dressed in a black assasin’s gear beside him had her brows furrowed. She was holding a brown sword in hand, watching beside Solvyn. Numerous block shaped crystals were on the wall, showing various levels of the monster realm. Solvyn directed a string of energy to that of level twelve, making the blank large middle crystal light up, showing clearly every part of level twelve. Levels one to three were packed with students, who were in groups, hunting monsters, and surrounding them. Easy victory. For groups that had a reasonable degree of

  • CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT

Theon twirled the short sword between his fingers, the hilt slick with sweat from his palm. His heart hammered against his ribs like a war drum. One wrong step and the desert would become his burial plot. “System, hurry up. Where’s the weakest spot?” No answer came. A few meters away, the hecephalus was already moving. Dust exploded under its weight as it lunged, tusk gleaming like bone in the sun. Theon pivoted, spear snapping up to meet it. Metal screamed against tusk. A sharp ching cracked through the dry air and the impact jarred up his arms, rattling his teeth. The force shoved him back. Sand dragged under his boots, carving two deep furrows as he skidded to a halt ten feet away. His lungs burned. With a flick of his wrist, he sent the spear spinning. It twisted mid-air, a silver blur, and drove straight into the hecephalus’s throat. Blood followed it out in a dark, steaming arc when the weapon flew back into his palm, pulling life essence with it like a thirsty thing. “Awo

  • CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

The desert sun was baking hot, turning the air into something dry and sandy, scraping the lungs with each inhale. Hooves thundered against the sun baked grounds, screeches followed, alongside a powerful wave of dust rising like a miasma. Theon's heart pounded raggedly against his ribs as he waited for their approach. “System, show me the rewards you issued for the second mission.” Beep! A blue panel appeared before him. Theon's eyes ran over them, barely understanding a thing. He simply tapped on a short sword and a black cape. The short black sword appeared in his free left hand, while the cape affixed itself to his shoulders. “Awooo!” The first monster landed before him. The ground shook the moment the beast landed before him, kicking up clouds of dust and debris. Theon swirled the spear in his grasp. The spear weighed at least fifty kilograms, but in his hands, he was handling it like some irrelevant toy. His eyes scanned the beast. “Hecephalus!” It was a b
