"Aili...honey" my grandmother said softly holding my hand.

I looked at her soft brown eyes, she was such a kind hearted person. It was too bad my father didn't inherit that kindness "Grandma I really don't want to go to that school. We didn't have to move...just because he wants to run away from everything that had to do with my mother!" I breathed out harshly.

I was so angry, my mother had just passed away and my father decided it was a great idea to move. I call that running away and that wasn't fair on me. I had a life in Roundstone County, Ireland was my home. It was 'our' home, there was absolutely no logical reason for us to move to the USA. It just didn't make any logical sense.

"I know it hurts my sweet sweet child but your father is only doing what he thinks is best for you. Try to understand that he is hurting too" she squeezed my hand softly "everything there reminded him of her, he barely ate or slept. Maybe this will be good for him and you."

I blinked as I felt a stray tear trickle down my left cheek. Maybe I was being too harsh but It was unfair. I wanted to go home. I wanted to be surrounded by my mother's things. I wanted to remember her forever, to sleep on her favorite couch and dance in her garden singing all her beautiful favorite songs.

"Fine, I will try" I said wiping my cheeks with the back of my hand.

My grandmother smiled "you will love Sherfield its small and the people are just as friendly as the ones back home"

I stood up with a smile, obviously I didn't believe her. Everything in Sherfield was different, from the climate and the environment itself. I didn't like it already and I am sure school was going to be worse. "I will be ready in a minute" I said grabbing an outfit from my closet.

"Don't take too long," she said before walking out.

A simple green top and some Jeans would do just fine. I wore my sneakers before looking in the mirror  "great" I looked like I was having a bad day. My eyes were still puffy from all the crying and sleepless nights. My hair was being rebellious, it was everywhere. It almost resembled a birds nest and my eyes looked dull. It didn't even look like they were hazel.

I ran downstairs were Ryan was waiting for me. "Are you ready? I made breakfast" he said behind the kitchen counter.

I eyed the bread and eggs "I will buy something at school" I said grabbing an apple and walking out. To be honest I wasn't hungry.

The ride to school was incredibly quiet but I didn't mind. I had nothing to say to him and he obviously had nothing to say to me. He dropped me off and I walked out of the car before he could say anything "I will take the bus back home!" I called out before he drove off. I didn't even wait for his response.

I breathed out as I walked into the school. The weather was dull and humid. The clouds blocked the sun which made me groan, these were already signs that today was going to be so boring or worse.

The first four classes were quite interesting. I was in my last class which was history. I liked history so I decided to pay extra attention. A lady called Mrs Todd was taking us for history. She was also with us in my first class which was literature were she introduced me to the class as well. Nobody really cared about the new girl anymore. Everyone was acting like I was part of the class since way back.

"so this is a group project! Make sure you are in a group of three, not four or five!It is due on Thursday that gives you a lot of time to perfect this! I want no excuses especially the one were your dog ate your homework!" she said before walking out.

A girl behind me groaned.  "Ugh that was my famous excuse" she said hitting her head lightly on her desk. Her long curly brown her spread all over her desk dramatically. She had a lot of beautiful hair.

I turned to fully look at her with a smile "Hate history much?" I asked

She looked at me with a frown. I grinned at her, she was a dramatic girl. A pretty girl, with freckles dotted around her cheeks and nose. Her blue eyes were really light like crystals. You could almost see through them, she was definitely popular around here. She was beautiful.

"I'm not a fan, your name is Aili right," she said and I nodded "I am Samantha but please call me Sam. Only my mom calls me Samantha and it's only when I am in some kind of trouble" she said with a smile

I smiled "Nice to meet you Samantha, love the hair"

"what, you like this bush" she said with her Jaws on the ground touching her hair. I laughed she was too much, she smiled "I love your hair, way better than this forest I'm carrying on my head. Wanna join me for the project? I like you already"

I had really light blonde hair sometimes I felt like a barbie and I hated that because I was nothing close to being that cute. I took the whitish blonde hair from my mother but honestly I wish I had my fathers dirty brown hair.

I like brown hair honestly or even black hair. Unfortunately the last time I tried dyeing my hair it fell out. I thought I had cancer at that point, my mom freaked out and told me she would bury me alive if I ever did that again. She even added the word 'literally' for a more dramatic effect. Anyways I will never do it again because I spent a whole month looking like a wrong turn character. Had to buy extra hoodies that month too.

"sure I would love that" I said a little excited. Making friends was never really that hard for me and that includes making enemies as well. My temper did the job, somehow I always ended up pissing someone off.

"and that makes the three Of us!" A short girl said sitting on Sam's desk.

Sam rolled her eyes "Aili this is Lisa my dorky friend. Luckily she is a nerd  so she will be joining our group. Is that alright?"

"oh sure, no problem at all" I said smiling.

Lisa was a tiny girl with short black hair. She reminded me of Velma from Scooby-Doo. She had doe brown eyes which made her look really cute especially with the large glasses she wore.

"PARTY AT THE BOGS!" A boy said standing on top of his desk holding a juice bottle but I'm sure there was alcohol in that thing. The boy looked high honestly, his curly brown hair was all over the place. He was on the lean side and he kind of gave off bad boy vibes.

Sam stood up "That's Nick, cool friend of mine. The party is going to be littt trust me!" she exclaimed.

"uh I don't know guys, it's only Wednesday and my dad would kill me" I said biting my lip.

Lisa scoffed jumping off the desk "it's only 3 o'clock you will be back home by 5. Plus it will be so much fun!"

I thought about it for a second "damn it let's go!" I said grabbing my bag with a smile.

Crowds, I have never been much of a peoples person but I was a teenager so I didn't mind having a little bit of a good time. However there was something off about this place. I just didn't know what it was, maybe it was just the weather or the fact that we were literally surrounded by a forest. Maybe it was these bogs "is it safe to be partying so close to the bogs?" I asked watching people drink while dancing to loud music.

"oh trust me it's totally okay, we do this all the time!" Samantha said

"hey new girl! Want a beer!" Nick called out from his truck

Samantha dragged me towards the truck "yes she does!"

I smiled as I followed her. "catch" Nick said throwing a can of beer

"thanks"

I opened the can and sipped on my beer. I breathed out, this was nice being around people and away from my sad room or my annoying father who refused to open up about his feelings. It was really frustrating and it felt like I was going through this tough time all by myself. As if I'm the only one who lost her and he just didnt give a shit.

"are you okay, you look a little lost there" Nick said standing next to me. I hadn't even noticed Sam was already dancing with some guys beside another truck.

I smiled taking another sip of my beer "oh I'm fine. I tend to get lost in my mind sometimes"

"ah don't we all. My weakness is daydreaming" Nick grinned and I was caught by his pretty brown eyes they were this unique golden brown color. The lightest shade of brown eyes I had ever seen

I smiled at him "what do you daydream about"

"let's see... First of all I'm living in this beautiful city full of life and excitement. There's freedom and I'm not stuck in this haunted little town were it feels like we are all prisoners" he said before taking a gulp of his alcohol.

I hummed "haunted?" I asked curiously

"yep, Don't you know. It's called Sherfield the little town full of ghosts, spirits, demons and all the scary little things" he grinned playfully and I laughed

"wow how interesting" I grinned shaking my head

He smirked and I couldn't help but smile at him. He was really cute and funny. I suddenly scrunched up my eyebrows as I felt something,it felt so sad. It felt cold, uncomfortable and my heart felt like...the time when I lost my mom. It felt like death and whispers.

"are you okay, you are shaking. Here take my  jacket" Nick said handing me his jacket.

I smiled at him "Thank you.I always forget I'm going to need one"

"it's okay, you look great in mine anyways" he said and I almost blushed unfortunately someone had to ruin the moment.

"Nick!I have been looking all over for you" A beautiful tall  girl said hooking her arm around Nick's shoulder. She was definitely being rude. She had a nice slim body, the perfect dirty blonde straight hair. Her Grey eyes matched her pretty round face and cherry plump lips. She was actually adorable for a rude girl.

Nick looked a bit awkward "I didn't see you looking. Hi Amanda" he said sipping on his beer.

I decided to save him from the awkwardness "I will see you later" I smiled at him before leaving. I made sure to grab another can if beer though.

The sad mourning whispers attacked my ears again and I looked behind me. Amanda... something was just not right. It's like there was something dark surrounding her and I felt like saving her. I rubbed my shoulders as I  decided to walk around aimlessly instead, just to get my head together. Maybe I had too much to drink.

I gasped and stumbled back a little as the whispers got louder. It sounded like 'death, death, death, death, death'. Like someone was leaving. My heart started racing and I just had to get out of here. I grabbed my bag and my eyes widened as I saw dark shadows surrounding Amanda. She was still flirting with Nick but those shadows looked like death all around her. I could feel the tears burning in my eyes, she shouldn't be here. She needed to leave this place.

I dropped my can of beer and marched in her direction holding my bag tightly. I could feel most people watching me. I grabbed Amanda's arm "you need to leave"

"excuse me?" she scoffed widening her eyes

"you need to leave!" I said louder

She shoved my hand off  "get lost and don't you ever touch me again freak!"

I stumbled back a little, everyone was watching me now but those shadows were still there like dark stormy clouds and this time they were attaching themselves onto another girl and a boy dancing together. "you should all leave this place!" I cried out

"Aili are you alright. I can take you home" Nick said softly. He sounded concerned but they weren't listening something didn't feel right.

"give us some of that stuff she is taking man!" two boys laughed.

I shook my head before running off. Something wasn't right and nobody was listening to me. Maybe I was losing my mind. I was going mad, it must be all the stress I'm dealing with or someone spiked my drink. Little rain drops started falling from the sky, it was spitting.

"Fucking amazing" I said looking up at the sky angrily before walking again. I had to go through the damn forest to get to the nearest bus stop. I really hated this place, it was creepy. Stupid place "thanks Dad, now everyone probably thinks I'm a freak" I mumbled to myself rubbing my shoulders. It seemed to be getting colder and colder.

I froze as I felt a wave of some kind of energy hitting me in the face. I felt it go right through me before I completely blacked out.

The night loomed, and Sam's backyard was aglow with twinkling fairy lights as the Friday the 13th birthday party commenced. Ignoring the nagging unease that clawed at my thoughts, I joined the festivities, determined not to let my fears steal another moment.Amidst the laughter and music, I sipped on my drink, my eyes flickering across the crowd. Nick, surprisingly, approached me with a genuine smile. "Hey Aili, you made it."I returned the smile, letting my guard down for a moment. "Yeah, figured I'd stop being a buzzkill and actually enjoy myself."His demeanor turned more serious. "By the way, I hope you're taking my advice seriously. Brandon's got a darker side, trust me."A pang of concern gnawed at me, his words playing on my mind. "What do you mean, a darker side?"He sighed, his expression tense. "I don't want you getting hurt. He's got a record, Aili. He's hurt people before."Confusion mingled with a hint of betrayal. "Why are you telling me this now?"He reached out, his ha

I was about to open my mouth when a familiar voice sounded behind me. "Aili, hold up. Can we talk?"I turned to see Nick standing there, his expression a mix of concern and confusion. "Nick, I-"He cut me off, his voice urgent. "I saw you heading towards Brandon. What's this about?"I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I just... I feel like he knows something I need to know."Nick's brows furrowed. "Aili, you're not seeing the bigger picture. Brandon's got a criminal record. He's not someone you want to get involved with."Before I could respond, I noticed Brandon's eyes on us, his gaze intense. He had overheard our conversation, his expression unreadable.Nick stepped closer, his eyes locked on Brandon. "Listen, I know you're new here, but Brandon's trouble. You need to stay away from him."The tension in the air was palpable, the impending clash between them threatening to erupt. But before things escalated further, the principal's voice shattered the moment. "Alright, that'

The halls of Sherfield High School felt both familiar and foreign as I navigated through the crowds, my gaze avoiding any hint of Brandon's presence. His cryptic words and the warnings from Nick had left me on edge, and I was determined to distance myself from the enigmatic bad boy.As I approached my locker, Lisa's skeptical gaze met mine. She arched an eyebrow, her lips twisting into a half-smile. "So, Aili, you're into the whole 'mystical' thing, huh?"I sighed, the weight of her judgment palpable. "I'm just trying to figure things out, Lisa. It's been a strange couple of days."Lisa shrugged, her expression unconvinced. "Just don't let it consume you. We've got enough to worry about without adding ghosts to the mix."Before I could respond, Samantha approached us, a bright smile lighting up her features. "Hey, Aili. Lisa, let's give her a break, okay? She's just trying to navigate through all this weirdness."I offered Samantha a grateful smile, appreciating her support. "Thanks,

"Aili, can I talk to you for a moment?" he asked, his voice laced with urgency.I nodded, my heart racing as I followed him to a quieter corner of the hallway. "What's going on, Nick?"He glanced around as if ensuring no one was listening. "I saw you talking to Brandon yesterday."I crossed my arms, my gaze unwavering. "And what of it?"He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Look, I know he seems intriguing, but there's something you need to know about him. He's not... entirely trustworthy."I raised an eyebrow, my skepticism evident. "And you are?"Nick's expression darkened. "Aili, I don't want you getting involved in things you don't understand. Brandon is connected t

  • Chapter 4

I awoke to a world of shadows and whispers. My surroundings were unfamiliar, shrouded in an eerie quietness. Dim lighting cast flickering shadows on the walls, and strange symbols adorned the surfaces around me. It was as if I had been transported to a place that existed between reality and a dream.I sat up slowly, my heart racing as I took in the unsettling atmosphere. The air was thick with an otherworldly energy, and a chill ran down my spine. My gaze landed on a figure in the shadows, a cloaked silhouette that seemed to merge with the darkness. The figure turned towards me, their face hidden beneath the hood of their cloak. They didn't speak immediately, and I felt a knot of unease forming in my stomach. When their voice finally cut through the silence, it was laden with a sense of foreboding."Aili," the figure whispered, their voice like a haunting melody. "You have ventured beyond the veil."I blinked, my throat dry as I struggled to find my words. "Beyond the veil? What does

I think.I shook my head before opening the door "Dad I'm okay don't worry about me""I will pick you up after school, no debates." he said as I jumped out of the car.I sighed closing the door behind me "fine!"I heard the car drive off as I walked to class. The dry air brushed against my face and I blinked. 'Everything was going to be fine' I told myself. I could feel people staring at me as I arrived in class. They whispered, laughed and glared. I walked to my seat and pretended nobody else existed except for me plus the board in front of me.They probably thought I was weird and nobody wanted to hang out with the weird girl . I was dragged out of my thoughts when Sam sat in front of me. I looked at her concerned face and I didn't miss it when Bradley shouted "Oh she is sitting with the freak now,
