The sound of the Ryan car retracting from the city car roared out of the compound, acting as eyes that lingered on the expansive bumpers as they glided through the sleeping city. Its headlights cut through the darkness, washing over locked storefronts, shuttered restaurants, and metal gates that covered every shop.

This part of the city was empty; no pedestrians or mundane activities, just silence broken by the steady hum of the engine and the sound of tires rolling over asphalt.

The doors opened and the suite lights flickered on automatically as he entered. He staggered as exhaustion finally caught up to him.His body felt like it was made of bruises. He was about to head to the bathroom when the muted television caught his attention. A female journalist stood in front of flashing police lights, speaking rapidly.Behind her was the wreckage of Ryan’s car. The camera angle showed the crushed metal, the shat

  • Chapter 56: A Request

Silence roams through the other end of the line, giving him a hint that the situation was far worse than they thought. “That’s not a casual request,” Harrison replied.“I didn’t crawl out of a grave just to get chased by thugs,” Ryan stated. "That's what happened, and I wasn't prepared. I need to be able to defend myself; I need to do it fast.”Harrison exhaled, long and heavy, and Ryan could almost picture him rubbing his forehead.“There’s a place,” he spoke again, his voice lower now. “It’s called Iron Gate Academy.”Ryan blinked. “Iron Gate?” he repeated.“Yes, it's not for amateurs or for tourists. They only accept legacies,” he stated, almost disappointed.Ryan frowned. “Legacies?”“Yes,” Harrison said. “People with bloodline connections, military families. Old-money families. People who’ve been in the game for generations.”Ryan’s jaw tightened harder. “And what are they training for?” Ryan asked.Harrison hesitated, then answered honestly.“They train killers,” he said.Ryan f

  • Chapter 55: News

The nurse exited the room with an expression gotten from years of experience. Her eyes shifted from Elena to Ryan as though she could feel the tension already sitting in the air.Ryan standing outside the transparent room, his jaw clenched, didn’t realize he held his breath when the nurse stopped in front of them. Elena, beside him, had her arms folded across her chest, with a controlled expression, but Ryan noticed the subtle detail most people would miss: her fingers tapping against her elbow, a sign of impatience.“His vitals are stable,” she began, slipping off her face mask and her gloves, tossing them into the nearby bin as if shedding the last traces of the emergency. “From the scans, which show a minor concussion, the patient has no serious injury but will be under observation for the meantime.”Relief hit him hard, and Ryan let out a shaky exhale. “Thank you!” he muttered, sounding almost broken. “Thank you very much.”The nurse nodded once, already turning away.Ryan’s gaze

  • Chapter 54: Elena

“Come,” Elena called, already walking away. Ryan followed through the corridor, which was lined with chairs and vending machines. His fingers brushed his pocket again where Elena’s card was resting, and the irony almost made him laugh. She was a stranger who gave him her number, and now she was leading him through a hospital like she’d been part of his life all along. As if fate had shoved her into his path whether he liked it or not. “Should we be expecting them, Mr. Wright?” Her question snapped Ryan out of his thoughts. “What?” he asked. Elena glanced back at him, her green eyes scanning his face. “The men who did this,” she clarified. “Should we be expecting them here?” Ryan’s steps slowed, then the image of the SUV pulling away crawled into his mind. He glanced at her, and he could tell she was someone who understood danger. “No, they think we’re dead.” She turned fully toward him with a furrow brow. “Good.” For the first time since Ryan had seen her, her calm expression

  • Chapter 53: Lifesaver

The sound of taxi tires screeching against the hospital driveway tore through the quiet of the night like a warning siren. The vehicle jerked to a stop at the entrance of the General Hospital, and its headlights washed over the glass doors and the white concrete pillars outside. For a brief second, the world seemed frozen. Ryan’s breathing, the driver’s trembling hands on the steering wheel, and the harsh glare of fluorescent lights spilling out from the building. Then everything moved at once; Ryan shoved the door open and stumbled out. His shoes hit the pavement, and the cold night air slapped his face, sharp and unforgiving, and the smell of gasoline and smoke still clung to his suit like a curse. The velvet box was gone, but the watch rested on his wrist. Behind him, the taxi driver shouted something, probably calling for help, but Ryan barely heard him. His eyes were fixed on the backseat. Marcus was slumped there, unconscious, with his head tilted awkwardly. Dark blood clou

For a moment, the SUV fell back but came right up before anyone could heave a sigh.Ryan felt a wave of irritation surge through his veins. “They’re not giving up,” he said bitterly.Marcus’s eyes were hard. “They won’t until they have that,” he said, nodding at his lap.Ryan dropped his gaze at the velvet box. He didn’t even realize he was holding it like a weapon.Marcus made another turn, and the car leaped forward onto a wider road, with its engine roaring like it was alive. Ryan’s body pressed into the seat by the sheer force of acceleration. He fumbled with the seatbelt and finally clicked it into place. They soared through the city, chasing times, past empty roads, and different intersections.“Brace yourself!” Marcus called, but not fast enough as he hit the brakes and their car screamed, dragging its tires and smoke to a brutal halt.“What the hell!” Ryan panted, but his eyes locked on the SUV that shot past them, unable to stop in time and For one split second, Ryan saw the
