The mountain compound burned behind him. Flames licked the sky, casting orange shadows across the forest. Dante walked through the chaos, his weapon still warm, his mind already moving to the next threat.

Sasha fell into step beside him. "The network is finished. Their leadership is dead. Their assets are destroyed."

Dante didn't look at her. "There's always more."

"Not this time. I've been tracking every cell. Every operative. Every contingency. They're gone."

"Then why do I still feel like we're being watched?"

Sasha was silent for a moment. "Paranoia is what's kept you alive this long. Don't abandon it now."

They reached the vehicles. Dante climbed into the passenger seat. Sasha drove.

The road wound through the mountains. The night was dark. The stars were hidden behind clouds.

Dante's phone buzzed. Naomi.

"Are you okay? I heard about the compound."

"I'm fine."

"Where are you now?"

"Heading back to the city. Sasha's with me."

A pause. Then: "Be careful. She's not done with you."

Dante typed a reply. "I know."

He pocketed the phone.

Sasha glanced at him. "Naomi?"

"Checking in."

"She's worried about you."

"She's always worried about me."

Sasha was quiet for a moment. Then she spoke. "She's not wrong to be worried. This isn't over. There are still people out there who want revenge. People who will come for us."

"Let them come."

Sasha smiled. "That's the spirit."

---

They reached the city at dawn. Sasha dropped Dante at his apartment.

"Get some rest," she said. "I'll contact you when I have more information."

Dante nodded. He climbed the stairs to his apartment.

The room was dark. Silent. He checked the corners, the windows, the closets.

Clear.

He collapsed on the bed. Exhaustion washed over him.

But sleep wouldn't come.

His mind replayed the events of the past weeks. The betrayals. The deaths. The victories.

He'd killed so many people. So many names on the list.

But the emptiness remained. The grief remained.

He closed his eyes. Listened to the silence.

---

His phone buzzed. A message from an unknown number.

"Meet me at the Watering Hole. Midnight. Come alone."

Dante stared at the message. His hand moved to his weapon.

He typed a reply. "Who is this?"

"A friend. Or maybe an enemy. That depends on what you do next."

Dante's jaw tightened. He pocketed the phone.

He had to go. Had to find out who was reaching out.

---

The Watering Hole was quiet. Sully was behind the bar, polishing glasses.

Dante entered through the back door. Moved through the shadows.

A figure sat in the corner booth. Hooded. Hidden.

Dante approached. "You wanted to see me."

The figure looked up. It was Viktor.

Dante's blood went cold. "You're supposed to be dead."

"I am dead." Viktor's voice was hollow. "To the world, I died in the attack on the compound. But I survived. Barely."

"Why are you here?"

"To warn you." Viktor leaned forward. "Sasha is planning something. Something big. She's not done with the network. She's planning to rebuild it. Better than before."

Dante shook his head. "That's not possible. The network is destroyed."

"The network is a hydra. Cut off one head, and three more grow back." Viktor's eyes were hard. "Sasha has been consolidating power. Making deals. Building alliances. She's going to be more dangerous than Aldrich ever was."

Dante's hand moved to his weapon. "Why should I trust you?"

"Because I've lost everything. My sister. My men. My life." Viktor's voice cracked. "She killed everyone I loved. Everyone I cared about. I want revenge."

Dante studied him. The grief was real. The rage was real.

"Where is she?" Dante asked.

"She has a new base. An old bunker outside the city. She's been using it to store weapons. Plan operations. She's preparing for something."

"What?"

"I don't know. But she's been meeting with people. Important people. Government officials. Military contacts. She's building something bigger than the old network."

Dante was silent for a moment. Then he nodded. "Thank you."

"Don't thank me." Viktor stood. "Just stop her. Before it's too late."

He walked out of the bar.

Dante sat in the booth. His mind was churning.

Sasha was the enemy. She'd been playing him from the start. Using him to eliminate her rivals. To consolidate her power.

And now she was planning something bigger.

He pulled out his phone. Sent a message to Naomi.

"I need to see you. Now."

---

Naomi's apartment was small. Cramped. But safe.

Dante arrived at 2 AM. She opened the door, her face pale with worry.

"What's going on? You said it was urgent."

"Sasha is planning something. Something big. She's not done with the network. She's planning to rebuild."

Naomi's eyes widened. "How do you know?"

"Viktor told me. He survived the compound attack. He's been watching her."

Naomi's jaw tightened. "We need to stop her."

"We need to find out what she's planning first." He sat on her couch. "She has a new base. An old bunker outside the city. I need to get inside."

"How?"

"I don't know yet. But I'll figure it out."

Naomi sat beside him. "Dante, you can't keep doing this. You can't keep fighting alone."

"I'm not alone." He looked at her. "I have you."

Naomi's eyes glistened. "I'm not sure you do. After everything I did. Everything I lied about."

Dante reached out. Touched her face. "We all made mistakes. We all did things we regret. But we can't change the past. We can only move forward."

Naomi leaned into his hand. "I love you, Dante. I've always loved you."

"I know." He pulled her close. "I love you too."

They sat in silence. The weight of the past was still there. The grief. The loss.

But for the first time in a long time, there was hope.

---

The bunker was hidden in the hills outside the city. Accessible only through a narrow road.

Dante approached at dawn. The building was unassuming. A concrete structure disguised as a storage facility.

He moved through the forest, using the shadows for cover.

The guards were numerous. At least ten. Maybe more.

He found a gap in the fence. Slipped through.

The main entrance was ahead. Heavy doors. Security cameras.

He needed another way in.

He circled the building. Found a ventilation shaft. Climbed.

The shaft was narrow. Tight. He squeezed through, moving slowly, silently.

He reached the interior. Dropped into a corridor.

The bunker was massive. Rooms branching off in every direction. He moved through the corridors, checking doors, clearing corners.

He found the command center. Sasha was inside, surrounded by her lieutenants.

She was giving orders. Directing operations. Planning something big.

Dante moved closer. Listened.

"...the attack will be simultaneous. Three cities. Twelve targets. We'll hit them all at once."

One of the lieutenants spoke. "And the government response?"

"Distracted. Confused. By the time they react, we'll have control."

Dante's blood went cold. She was planning a coordinated attack. Multiple cities. Multiple targets.

He had to stop her. Had to end this.

He stepped through the door. Weapon raised.

The room went silent.

Sasha looked up. Her expression shifted. From surprise to anger to calculation.

"Cross. I should have known you'd find me."

"You're planning attacks. Mass casualties. You're no better than the old network."

"I'm better." Her voice was cold. "I'm smarter. More ruthless. More effective."

Dante's finger tightened on the trigger. "This ends now."

"Does it?" Sasha smiled. "You kill me, and someone else takes my place. The network is bigger than me. Bigger than Aldrich. Bigger than Kessler. You can't destroy it. You can only delay it."

"Then I'll delay it forever."

Dante fired.

Sasha dropped.

The room erupted. Lieutenants scrambling. Weapons drawn.

Dante fired again. Dropped two more.

The firefight was brutal. Close quarters. Deafening noise.

When it was over, the room was silent.

Dante stood in the chaos. Breathing hard.

It was over. Finally.

He walked out of the bunker.

Outside, the sun was rising. The sky was bright.

His phone buzzed. Naomi.

"Did you do it?"

"Done. Sasha is dead. The network is finished."

A pause. Then: "Come home."

Dante walked toward the city.

When you've finally stopped the enemy, how do you learn to stop fighting yourself?

But she didn't look away."Three years ago," she began, "I was recruited by the network. Not by choice. They had my family. They threatened to kill them if I didn't cooperate. I was young. Scared. I did what they asked."Dante's jaw tightened. "That's the same story you told me before.""Because it's true. But there's more." She took a shaky breath. "After my family died, I had nothing. No reason to keep working for the network. But I was already in too deep. I knew too much. They would have killed me if I tried to leave.""So you stayed.""I stayed. And I did terrible things.
