The warehouse was cold. Dante sat on a metal crate, checking his weapons for the third time. His hands moved automatically, muscle memory taking over.

Sasha's operatives moved around him. Loading equipment. Reviewing plans. Preparing for the assault.

He didn't know any of them. They were strangers. Mercenaries. People who'd been hired for a job.

He didn't trust them.

He didn't trust anyone.

Sasha approached, a tablet in her hand. "Viktor sent the signal. Naomi's operation is at the old airport. She's converted the main hangar into a command center."

Dante looked up. "How many?"

"At least thirty. Maybe more. She's been recruiting heavily."

"And Viktor?"

"He's inside. He'll disable the security systems at midnight. That's our window."

Dante nodded. He stood and holstered his weapon. "I'm ready."

Sasha studied him. "You sure about this? You could still walk away."

"I'm done walking."

"Good." She handed him a comms unit. "Stay on channel one. I'll guide you through the operation."

Dante fitted the earpiece. "What's my role?"

"Front line. You'll lead the entry team. Viktor will open the main gate. Once you're inside, neutralize any resistance and secure the command center."

"And Naomi?"

Sasha's expression hardened. "She's yours. However you want to handle it."

Dante nodded. "I understand."

---

The airport was dark. The runways were abandoned. The hangars loomed like skeletons in the moonlight.

Dante approached from the east, his team spread out behind him. They moved in silence, coordinated, professional.

The main hangar was ahead. Lights glowed from inside. Figures moved behind the windows.

Viktor's signal came through. "Security systems disabled. Main gate open."

Dante raised his hand. "Move."

They surged forward. Reached the hangar entrance. Dante kicked the door open.

The interior was chaos. Men and women scrambling for weapons. Shouts of alarm.

Dante fired first. Dropped the nearest guard. His team followed.

The firefight was brutal. Close quarters. Deafening noise.

Dante moved through the hangar, dropping targets as he went. His aim was precise. His movements were fluid.

He reached the command center. A glass-walled office in the corner. Naomi was inside, barking orders into a phone.

She saw him. Her eyes widened.

Dante raised his weapon.

Naomi dropped the phone. "Dante. Wait."

"Give me one reason not to shoot you."

"I can give you a hundred." She stepped closer to the glass. "I know where the rest of the network is. The ones who survived. The ones who are still planning."

"I don't care."

"You should. They're planning to destroy everything. Cities. Governments. Millions of people."

Dante's finger tightened on the trigger. "You're lying."

"I'm not. I've seen the plans. They're real." Her voice was desperate. "Help me stop them. Please."

Dante stared at her. The woman he'd loved. The woman who'd betrayed him.

He could shoot her. End it. Walk away.

But the desperation in her eyes was real. The fear was real.

He lowered the weapon. "Tell me everything."

Naomi's face flooded with relief. "Thank you. Thank you."

"Don't thank me yet." He stepped into the office. "Start talking."

---

The plan was simple. The remnants of the network had gathered in a compound in the mountains. They were planning a series of attacks. Coordinated. Devastating.

Naomi had been working against them from the inside. Using her position to gather intelligence. To disrupt their plans.

"I was never trying to rebuild," she said. "I was trying to destroy them from within."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I couldn't trust you. You were too close to Sasha. Too involved with her plans."

Dante's jaw tightened. "Sasha has been playing me the whole time."

"I know. I've been trying to warn you. But you wouldn't listen." She stepped closer. "I'm not the enemy, Dante. I never was."

Dante studied her. The fear. The desperation. The sincerity.

He wanted to believe her. Wanted to trust her again.

But trust was a luxury he couldn't afford.

"Prove it," he said. "Help me stop Sasha. Help me destroy the network."

Naomi nodded. "I will. I'll do whatever you need."

"Then start by telling me where Sasha is."

Naomi's eyes widened. "She's here. At the airport. She's been planning this operation for months."

Dante's blood went cold. "She's here?"

"She's in the control tower. Watching everything. She's been playing us both from the start."

Dante moved to the door. "I'm going to find her."

"Wait." Naomi grabbed his arm. "You can't go alone. She'll have guards. Security."

"Then I'll kill them too."

Naomi released his arm. "I'm coming with you."

"No. You're staying here. If I don't come back, you know what to do."

"Dante—"

"That's an order."

He left the office. Moved through the hangar. The firefight was over. Sasha's operatives were securing the area.

He found the stairs to the control tower. Climbed them quickly.

The door at the top was locked. He kicked it open.

Sasha was inside. Standing at the window. She turned as he entered.

"Cross. I was wondering when you'd get here."

"You've been playing me the whole time. Using me to eliminate your rivals. To consolidate your power."

"You're right." Her voice was calm. "I've been playing you. Just like I've been playing everyone. That's the only way to survive in this world."

Dante raised his weapon. "You killed my family. You killed everyone I loved."

"I killed them because they were threats. Because they would have exposed the network. Because they would have destroyed everything I built."

"You're a monster."

"Maybe. But I'm also the only one who can save this city from what's coming."

Dante's finger tightened on the trigger. "What's coming?"

"The network's final operation. A series of coordinated attacks. Bombings. Assassinations. Chaos." She stepped closer. "I know about it. I know how to stop it. But I can't do it alone."

Dante stared at her. The woman who'd destroyed his life. The woman who was offering him a chance to save others.

He wanted to kill her. Wanted to end it.

But the need to stop the attacks was stronger.

"Tell me," he said. "Tell me everything."

Sasha smiled. "I knew you'd see reason."

---

The plan was elaborate. The remnants of the network had been planning for months. They had assets in place. Supplies stockpiled. Targets identified.

Sasha had been tracking them for weeks. She knew every detail. Every contingency.

"We need to move fast," she said. "They're planning to strike in three days."

Dante nodded. "What do you need from me?"

"I need you to lead the assault. We hit their compound. We destroy their assets. We end it."

"And Naomi?"

"She stays. She's too close to this. Too compromised."

Dante's jaw tightened. "She's not compromised."

"She's a liability. You know that. If she's involved, she could jeopardize everything."

Dante was silent for a moment. Then he nodded. "Fine. She stays."

Sasha smiled. "Good. I'll have my people ready in two hours."

Dante left the control tower.

Outside, the night was cold. His phone buzzed.

Naomi. "What happened?"

He typed a reply. "I'm leading an assault on the network's compound. Sasha is running the operation."

A pause. Then: "She's using you."

"I know. But she's also right. We need to stop the attacks."

"I can help. Let me come with you."

"No. You're staying here."

"Dante—"

"That's final."

He pocketed the phone.

The assault was in two hours. He needed to prepare.

But first, he needed to make a decision.

Trust Sasha. Or trust Naomi.

Both had betrayed him. Both had lied.

But one of them was telling the truth.

He just didn't know which.

---

The compound was in the mountains. A former military base. Heavily fortified.

Dante approached with Sasha's team. They moved through the forest, silent and coordinated.

The assault was brutal. Explosions. Gunfire. Chaos.

Dante moved through the compound, dropping targets as he went. His aim was precise. His movements were fluid.

He reached the command center. The network's leaders were inside. Desperate. Terrified.

He raised his weapon.

"Cross. Please." One of them stepped forward. "We can negotiate. We can make a deal."

"I don't make deals with monsters."

He fired.

The room went silent.

Dante stood in the chaos. The bodies were everywhere. The network was broken.

But the emptiness was still there.

He walked out of the compound.

Sasha was waiting. "It's over. The network is gone."

Dante shook his head. "It's never over. There will always be someone else. Another threat. Another enemy."

"Then we fight them too." Sasha stepped closer. "Together."

Dante stared at her. The woman who'd destroyed his life. The woman who was offering him a future.

He didn't know if he could trust her. Didn't know if he could forgive her.

But he knew he couldn't do this alone.

"Together," he said.

When trust is broken, can it ever truly be rebuilt, or are you always waiting for the next betrayal?

I did what they asked."Dante's jaw tightened. "That's the same story you told me before.""Because it's true. But there's more." She took a shaky breath. "After my family died, I had nothing.
