Ethan's mind went blank.
His first reaction was that Jack had become so reckless as to start attacking and violating Vivian; otherwise, he couldn't understand why Vivian was screaming as if she were dying.
He no longer loved her. He signed the papers. He packed his bags and prepared to leave.
But if Jack was hurting Vivian, he absolutely couldn’t turn a blind eye. This was not about marriage; it was about humanity.
Ethan felt a rush of heat and crossed the hallway in four strides, his heart pounding. He slammed the door open, ready to shout at Jack to stop and then fight him.
But, in the next moment, those words died in his throat. His eyes widened in disbelief.
In the bathroom, in front of him, Vivian was wearing a thin nightgown, kneeling in front of Jack, gently applying medicine to his wounds, as if it had been someone else screaming just moments ago.
And Jack? He was only wearing a pair of boxers, sitting on the edge of the bathtub, comfortably enjoying Vivian's treatment. He had a shallow scrape on his calf, not much deeper than a paper cut.
But Vivian was seriously and intently battling this wound, carefully wiping the scratch on Jack's leg with disinfectant, as if afraid that Jack might feel even a hint of pain.
She was so gentle and focused that she seemed completely unaware she had buried herself between Jack's legs, and Jack's shorts were slightly bulging with excitement.
A cold feeling surged in Ethan's chest. He hadn't even had time to stop himself before he couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.
It turns out that Vivian's terrified scream was just because Jack fell, and she was heartbroken over Jack's injury.
So what was that about him rushing over so nervously to protect Vivian? A joke?
And in the five years of their marriage, she had never felt as scared for Ethan as she did now, not even when he was lying on the operating table with severe injuries.
Jack noticed the bitter laugh; he suddenly looked up and then squinted.
"Oh, Mr. Gray, I'm so sorry; please don't misunderstand. I slipped when I came out of the shower—I'm so clumsy. Vivian was just a little worried, that's all." He casually pointed to his almost bare body, a gleam of pride in his eyes. "She's just helping me with a bandage. Don't worry."
Ethan's gaze shifted from Jack's almost naked body to Vivian's nearly soaked dress, then to their very intimate posture, and finally back to Jack's face.
"I used to be a doctor," Ethan said, "with a license to practice. If you need treatment, why not come to me?"
Jack blinked.
"You have a trained doctor in your apartment," Ethan's voice rose a bit, "and you let her—" He pointed at Vivian kneeling on the floor. "Is this appropriate?"
The room fell silent, Jack's smile froze, and this made Vivian look like she was starting to get angry.
"Listen, Ethan, you—"
"It's okay, Vivian," Jack interrupted Vivian. His expression darkened, and he put on a facade of a remorseful victim. "Ethan is not at fault; this is all my mistake."
He took a step back and reached for the towel. "I should have called you. It's all my fault. I was in so much pain at the time; I didn't think it through. I'm just—" he started to stand up. "I'll go put on a shirt. Vivian, you don't need to help anymore. I can handle the rest myself."
He looked at Vivian with an apologetic expression, but his sly and provocative gaze was fixed on Ethan. "As for taking a shower, you don't need to help me with that. Forget what we said before.”
Ethan was momentarily stunned. Then his eyes widened. "You were actually planning to have her give you a bath?!" he questioned loudly, incredulous and furious.
Vivian finally couldn't hold back any longer; she suddenly stood up, her eyes burning with anger.
"I volunteered to give Jack a bath!" Her voice sliced through the steam like a knife. "Jack is injured. He could barely reach his own back. I offered to help him bathe because normal people do that when someone is injured, especially since we are old friends!”
"What's wrong with you?" Her voice grew louder and angrier. "We didn't do anything wrong. Not a single thing. So can you stop acting like a jealous husband? Can you be normal for once?”
The term "old friend" pierced Ethan like a knife. He remembered how she had just knelt between Jack's legs and instinctively clenched his fists. His breathing quickened, and his body began to tremble.
But to his surprise, he didn't immediately explode, unlike when he had rushed over just now, feeling hot all over.
On the contrary, his anger gradually subsided, like a piece of coal that had burned out.
After all this, all he had left was disappointment and the emptiness that came from having all expectations stripped away.
"If that's really how you feel," he noticed his voice was unusually deep and calm, "then I'll leave. You two can live however you want."
Vivian's eyes widened, then her expression turned stern. "Are you mocking me, trying to make me feel guilty?" She stepped closer. "Is that your goal?"
"Ethan, I really spoiled you. If you dare to walk out that door today, I won't even consider forgiving you unless you kneel down and beg me!" she said through gritted teeth.
The threat from the CEO should have stung him, even caused him pain, but instead, it left him feeling numb. Ethan felt something deep within him finally breaking free from its shackles.
"I don't care," he said softly, his tone almost indifferent. Then he ignored whatever Vivian and Jack said next and turned to leave.
He returned to his room, grabbed his suitcase, and then left.
Just as he left Vivian's house, David called back.

When the call connected, Vivian did not hear Ethan’s gentle words—only a barrage of cold reproaches.“Vivian, what does your loneliness and disappointment have to do with me? I didn’t ask you to go to a dance hall, nor did I tell you to fool around with other men. And you, kissing another man in a dance hall, have the audacity to mention the word ‘wife’ to me? Chapter 20
Ethan wanted to refuse, but as a man, Annie’s words unsettled him.Annie was a sweet‑faced, sexy‑bodied girl. She owned an apartment building, with most rooms rented out. If he became her first man, she would remember him forever—just as Vivian could never forget Jack…Seeing Ethan silent, Annie gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Alright, silence means consent. This apartment has two bedrooms. I’ll take the other one. If I’m in the mood, you’ll have to join me for passionate nights. As compensation, all utilities and rent for this apartment are free.”Annie walked toward the bedroom. Before closing the door, she gave Ethan a sweet smile. “The door isn’t locked. He sat down slowly on the living room sofa and tried to sort thro

Vivian was right.Half an hour later, Ethan indeed received a message from Caster. “Hey, Ethan, isn’t this your wife? I remember her as a very proud woman and very rich. I never imagined she could be this sexy. But the man kissing her doesn’t seem to be you.”Caster sent the message with a mocking tone. “Ethan, your wife is really a slut, holding another man, wiggling like a whore. I feel sorry for you!”Ethan watched the video. Vivian, in a super‑short skirt, was hugging Jack tightly, the two kissing passionately in public. He also saw Jack caressing Vivian’s buttocks.Though he had given up on this love, seeing this still made him a little uncomfortable.Facing Caster’s mockery, Ethan replied coldly, “Caster, Vivian and I are over. It’s her freedom to be with other men. I have no right to interfere. Goodbye.”After putting down the phone, Ethan, who did not smoke, made himself a cup of bitter coffee, opened the door, and stepped onto the terrace to get some fresh air.The area aroun
