Alex, after spending two years in a private prison for a crime he didn't commit—taking the fall for his wife's brother—is released, expecting to resume his unfinished wedding with his beloved wife, Sophia. Instead, Sophia arrives with divorce papers in the visitation room, forcing him to sign, revealing her calculated betrayal after seizing control of her family’s now-wealthy businesses. She abandons him for a wealthy socialite, William Vance. Unknown to Sophia, Alex was chosen during his imprisonment by the legendary former Chairman of the Southern Territory, who trained him in combat strategy and bequeathed him the ultimate symbol of supreme power: the Phoenix Ring and a Black Gold Sovereign Card loaded with $100 million. Armed with absolute authority over a vast global network, military backing, and endless resources, Alex steps out into the world. As he protects Clara—the daughter of his prison warden and President of B Corporation—from hostile takeovers and criminal alliances, Alex systematically dismantles the Vance family, exposes his betrayers, and unites the territory's warring factions at the Capital Summit to forge a peaceful, just empire.

CHAPTER 1

Sign it, Alex.”

“If you don't, you will see the ugliest part “

“Sign it,” Sophia's voice cracked through the visitation room. Alex thought to himself what had come over to the woman of his dream.

A paper was slid across the table, right in front of Alex’s handcuffed hands.

Alex blinked, staring at the top of the page: DIVORCE AGREEMENT. He looked up, expecting to see a joke, but the woman sitting across from him wasn't wearing the white wedding veil they had planned for three years ago. Sophia wore a tailored designer suit, her earrings sparkling under the flickering fluorescent light of the prison visitation room.

“Sophia?” Alex asked, “What is this? Today is my release day. We’re supposed to finish our wedding ceremony... Did someone threaten you? Tell me. Oh no, come on, who forced you to do this?”

Sophia let out a sharp laugh. “Threaten me? Alex, don't be naive. Nobody forced me. This is entirely my own choice.”

She crossed her arms, looking down at him with pure disdain.

“Take a good look at yourself, then look at me,” she continued coldly. “I am now the CEO of a multi-million-dollar company in Boston. What are you? A useless convict.

How could a burden like you ever be worthy of standing beside me now?”

Alex muttered, “A burden? Is that really all I am to you now? Does three years of marriage mean nothing compared to a few million dollars?”

Sophia mocked him, tapping on her long, manicured nails.

“Only broken fools like you cling to useless things like ‘love’ and ‘marriage '. Smart people climb higher branches. And unlike you, I’ve already found mine.”

She pulled out her model smartphone, tapped the screen, and slid it aggressively across the table.

On the screen of the phone was a photo of Sophia wrapped around a man in a pristine silk suit.

The man was William; he looked refined, noble, and effortlessly rich.

Alex caught his own reflection in the top—unkempt hair, pale skin, and the faded uniform of a prisoner beside the bright screen.

“You see the difference?” Sophia leaned in. “William is a true gentleman from a top rich family. You? You’re just a disgraced rapist. Why on earth would I choose a dirty criminal over him?”

“A rapist?!” Alex slammed his hands onto the table and said to her, “ You know that’s a lie! It was your brother Mark who committed that crime! Not me; I took the fall and went to prison because you cried and begged me on your knees to save your family’s name! I did it out of love for you!” he shouted at her, shaking his head to stop lying!!

Sophia didn't even flinch at his outburst. Instead, a slow, cruel smile spread across her face. She whispered, and her eyes were full of mockery

“Oh, Alex. You really are stupid. Do you think I was actually helpless back then?

Don't you know that two years ago, I had already met William. I needed a reason to clear my family's name and dump you without looking like the bad guy to the public.

Making you take the blame for my brother Mark was the perfect plan. You walked right into it like a blind fool.”

She tapped the divorce paper sharply with her index finger. “Now sign it. Don't waste my time. Don't make this uglier than it needs to be.”

Alex stared at her, feeling as if a knife had been driven straight into his chest and twisted.

The woman he had bled for, the woman he had traded his own youth and freedom for, had been calculating his downfall from the very beginning.

With a calm, trembling hand, Alex picked up the pen.

He signed his name on the dotted line, pushed the paper back to her, and let out a low, cold laugh.

“You’ll regret this, Sophia,” Alex said, his eyes locking onto hers with a chilling stillness.

“You have no idea of what you’re throwing away today.”

Sophia snatched the paper and slipped it into her bag, scoffing loudly. “Keep dreaming, Alex. People at the bottom always comfort themselves with empty threats and fantasies. Just be content with being worthless.”

She stood up, smoothing down her suit jacket.

“Anyway, you should thank me. Be happy you’re finally walking out of this miserable private prison today,” she added, turning toward the door. “Try not to piss off the warden on your way out—he’s known for being a ruthless monster who destroys people without blinking.”

Without waiting for his answer, she turned on her high heels and walked out of the visitation room, the steel door slamming shut behind her.

Alex sat in the silence for a long moment, watching the dust motes float in the pale light.

He then recalled how three years ago, he was the one who had supported her struggling family all the way to becoming new money among Boston's elite.

He had poured his entire savings into her family business, working night and day to build her path to success.

He never expected that once she rose to power, she would kick him aside like trash.

Regret it? Sophia must surely regret it. Alex thought to himself, his expression turning icy.

She really has no idea of what tomorrow is turning out to be.

During his two years in this notorious private facility, Alex hadn't just survived—he had been chosen.

The old man in the cell next to his was the legendary former Chairman of the Southern Territory, a powerhouse who held unmatched wealth and military strength.

The old man had spent two years teaching Alex deadly martial arts, business strategies, and world-class skills.

He had desperately wanted to pass on his ultimate symbol of power—the Phoenix Ring.

Alex had always refused the ring, purely because he only wanted to live an ordinary, peaceful life with his beloved woman in Boston after leaving Washington.
