"Here he comes." Someone said, staring at the young man who was walking towards the Director's office.

"Poor guy." A lady added, complementing what the first guy had said.

The young man who was being referred to could hear what his colleagues were saying about him, but he didn't care much.

His name is Statham Jaai. And he's the acclaimed workaholic of the Hay and Dee Firm.

Jaai was of the opinion that, if working his ass off to make some decent money could be used as a topic of ridicule, then he didn't know what to think of people. After all, he was working hard because of a day like this!

After all, today was a good day, he shouldn't let bad energies ruin his mood.

Jaai walked straight to the Director's office and knocked.

"Come in." A feminine voice called from inside.

Jaai hesitated for a moment, but then pushed the door open.

Why's the Director not on seat today? Wasn't he supposed to pay our salaries today? Jaai thought but the thoughts faded away soon.

There was a beautiful lady seated at the end of the Director's seat. The Director was nowhere to be found.

Jaai watched as the lady pulled a drawer open and picked up an envelope. She slapped the envelope against the table then slid it across the table to Jaai's end.

Jaai found this quite rude, but he wasn't surprised by the attitude of the secretary of the director. There has been rumors that the boss was most likely banging her.

Picking a fight with her would seem like getting on the bad side of the boss. Nobody wants that.

Jaai picked up the envelope and turned to leave.

"If I were you, I wouldn't be in such a haste." The secretary called at him.

Jaai stopped in his track for a moment. He didn't know what to make of what she had just said. He turned around to take a glance at her.

Looking at her, there was a subtle smile curling up the corner of her lips. The smile looked innocent.

Jaai started by tearing the envelope open. He recalled that the last few weeks have been very hectic for him. There was no task or duty he turned down no matter how stressed he was.

If the secretary has just asked him to check the envelope with an innocent smile, doesn't it mean that something exciting was coming his way?

An increment? Did the boss decide to increase his salary. The more he thought about it, the curious he got.

Seeing the smile on the secretary's face change into a smirk, Jaai hurriedly exposed the content of the envelope.

He brought out a piece of paper. A promotion letter? Jaai had a lot of thoughts. He didn't recall asking for a promotion letter. All he wanted was an increment.

Curiosity made his eyes zoom across the texts of the paper, skimming through for a faster grasp. His eyes widened as his brain gave meaning to some words,

[Letter of Appointment Termination.]

Jaai's knees buckled as he read the same thing over and over again. He started to shake his head. He didn't want to believe this.

"What is this?" He thought out loud, not sure if that was the right question.

"You went to college, Mr Jaai. You can read." The secretary answered lazily as though talking to Jaai was a bother.

"This cannot be true!" Jaai suddenly exploded. "I was with the director yesterday. In fact, he entrusted me with a personal task which I just completed this morning. I was just going to give him a feedback when I realized that you're the one on seat. How can I suddenly get laid off?"

No matter how hard he thought about this, this situation made no sense to Jaai.

"By the way, where is my salary?! Everyone got paid today! I've been busy, working for this Firm!!! That's why I came down here late! Yet, you're serving me a sack letter?" Jaai was not willing to hide any of his frustration.

"You should go home, Jaai. Making a scene here will only get you kicked out. You don't want to add to your misery." The secretary sounded like she was being considerate of Jaai, but Jaai could easily fish out the mockery in her voice.

Jaai suddenly lost his cool and zoomed to the other side of the table. He grabbed the telephone and dialed the direct line to the Director's number.

"What are you doing, Jaai!!!" The secretary snapped.

When she realised that Jaai would not listen to her, she picked up her personal phone and made a call,

"Security!!!"

It would seem as though the security men had been waiting all along for the call. They stormed in almost immediately.

"Mr Jaai is no longer a worker in this company! He's causing a ruckus! Throw him out!!!" She yelled.

Without further ado, five men pounced on Jaai, each man grabbing his four cardinal areas, while the last held his head.

Jaai kicked and fought all he could but nothing happened. He became a disgraceful spectacle to the rest of the workers.

He was thrown against the hard floor out of the company. He heard his bones crack but he got up again.

He realised that fighting against these men will seem like making a fool of himself, when he could just go directly to the boss.

He dipped his hand in his pocket. He had only twenty dollars left. This should get him there.

Today was supposed to be a great day for him. Today is his wedding anniversary. Last year was a disaster, so he hoped that this year will be better. That was why he spent the past five months working like a beast, to the extent that he now looked very malnourished. But he didn't care about what he looked like, he just wanted to make his wife happy.

He was unable to buy her a decent gift last year on their anniversary. This year, she's been talking about a Hermès bag. He has been saving all his salaries for the past five months. If he adds today's salary, he definitely should be able to get the gift!

If he gets her the thing she likes the most on this anniversary, she'll be extremely elated. He can't wait to see her reaction.

The cab pulled over in front of a lush villa. The Director's villa.

'Eon' That was the name that the elderly woman had just referred to him as. No one, in his nearest memories had ever called him by that name. In fact, he had thought that the name was just a spinoff of his surname. The fact that this elderly woman had just mentioned that name of his, he couldn't help but be moved. There was no lie that this woman knew him personally. Jaai knew that he didn't have to do anything just yet. He could just allow the moment unfold gradually. She seemed to be going through a lot of emotions. He couldn't take that away from her. While he she was hugging him and crying, Jaai was trying to think of a couple of things, too. But no matter how hard he was trying to reach into the shelves of memories, nothing seemed to work. "There she is!!!" A sudden masculine voice built behind them. When the woman heard the voice, she pulled away from Jaia instantly. The feelings and emotions she was going through seemed to have vanished into thin air because of the recent

"Hold on." Jaai tried to catch his breath. "Are you saying that the memory of my time here at the orphanage was wiped off as a consequence of mr triggering the task?" Jaai wanted to be certain that he wasn't hearing things. "You see, a system has a pattern. These set of patterns is why it's called a system. If there are altercations then there would consequences. I'm sorry that I didn't inform you about that earlier." Mumuthebull bowed to him again. Jaai had no idea why his eyes always fall on her big tits whenever she bowed to him. He could swear that it was never his intention to do that. Especially not at this moment when his mind was boggled. "But why? Why that memory of all memories? Why wasn't it one of the memories I had during the task, especially the one with those jerks!!!" He yelled. "If what you mean is the memory that served as the cheat code for the completion of your first task, then that's rather improbable." She explained. Jaai didn't know what to say to her. She

The phone slid down from Jaai's cheeks and he stared at it for a moment. His facial expression held a note of disappointment."Why isn't she answering my call?" He muttered, staring at the screen for the moment.[Ping! You've arrived at your destination]Jaai was kicked out of the thoughts by the automated voice of the virtual map on the dashboard of the Bugatti Veyron. He pulled over tightly by a corner then stepped out.He looked around where he was. It was a slum. The houses here were too shabby to be the home of anyone. A foggy feeling clouded his mind as he stared at the environment. He had decided to park the car here because he didn't want to stir any kind of attention. He still needed to walk at least a mile before getting to his exact destination. He had made sure to inquire of Diane well about the location before setting out for the journey. He didn't want to do anything that he would regret, or cause anyone trouble. After walking for several minutes, he cut the last turn an

As soon as Steven walked out of the restaurant, the lanky man walked back in and dropped on his knees in front of Diane. "Did you tell him yet?" The man asked, hardly looking into her eyes out of respect. "He doesn't have to know yet." She replied briefly. "He loves money. I'm sure he'll do this for influence and the incentive. Meeting me means a lot to him and he would want to meet me over and over again."The man was silent for a while after her explanation. Even though he hadn't spoken a word yet, Diane could tell that there was something on his mind. "Spill it." She demanded. "I'm just worried about how this will play out." He replied carefully. "Speak in plain words to me." She demanded. "If they both discover whom they are later in the future, how would it look?" He asked, more like speaking to himself than he was to her. "The butler of an old family found his young master after decades. What would the scenes and emotions be?"Diane's gaze was keen on the face of the henc

  • Chapter 109

Steven couldn't ask her directly how she came to know his name, but that question was killing him. He wished he could summon the courage to question a woman as powerful as Diane. It was already a wonder and shock how he found himself here, talk more of pressing the matter with intent. "You've met, Jaai." She continued, staring at him with utter seriousness. Steven swallowed a lump, not sure of how to react to this. The dead seriousness on her face was something that would naturally spark curiosity and fear inside him. "Jaai? I'm not sure if I've heard that name before." Steven tried to bring back a couple of recent memories, but the name didn't ring a note. Of course he had spoken with a couple of people who had given him money out of goodwill. In fact, some of them would tell him their names and encourage him never to give up. There was a preacher whom he came in contact with a week ago. The preacher had come to lighten his heart with a good news. At first, it was all beautiful

  • Chapter 108

Jaai was in disbelief and in utter confusion as he stared at his phone. What had just happened was something that he didn't prepare for. He went from expecting the call of someone to hearing the voice of an entirely different person. He redialed the number that had just called him. He put it on speaker, waiting for the receiver to answer the call. The call rang for a while then it dropped. Jaai tried again and again until the line said it was out of coverage. Jaai swallowed a lump, staring into the space as though he was trying to summon something. "Who could that be?" His heart was heavy from thoughts. There were speculations that he didn't want to give life to. The fact that the voice was that of an elderly person, and it was soft and teary left Jaai even more confused, dying to get the exact detail of the person who had called. While he was thinking about this, something suddenly popped up in his mind. He scrolled through his contacts for a while and dialed the number of Diane
