In an ancient cultivation world dominated by alliances between humans and mythical beasts, a young man named Lin Ardent, initially considered mediocre, stumbles upon a discovery that changes his destiny: an ancient scroll containing a forbidden cultivation technique, the "Beast Empress Transformation Art." This technique is not merely a taming method; it allows Lin to transform his mythical beasts into stunning female humanoid forms, who then become combat partners, cultivation partners, and even integral parts of his spiritual power. Lin's first transformation, which turns a loyal Shadow Serpent into a mesmerizing Shadow Empress, marks the beginning of an unexpected journey, catapulting his power exponentially and igniting the promise of unprecedented strength. However, this power comes with a dark shadow from the past. The "Beast Empress Transformation Art" has been banned by the gods for thousands of years, after a cultivator in a bygone era nearly created an invincible army of beast goddesses, threatening the balance of the cosmos. As Lin Ardent gradually builds his "legion" of beast Empresses, drawing attention from powerful factions and even divine entities, he must grapple with the technique's legacy. The cultivation world, unprepared for the rise of a new "Beast Sovereign," begins to see him as a threat that must be eradicated, forcing him and his Empresses to fight for their very existence.

Chapter 1

1. Blood in the Dim Forest

"Run, Lin! Keep running or your head becomes a trophy!"

The taunt echoed through the twisted pines, followed by the raucous laughter of three men. Lin Ardent stumbled, his boots squelching in the mud and blood. He pressed his right arm tightly against his chest, cradling a small, limp form wrapped in his torn disciple robes.

"Shadow... stay with me," Lin whispered, his voice cracking. "Just a little longer, buddy."

Inside the bundle, the Shadow Serpent hissed feebly. Its scales, usually a vibrant obsidian, were now a dull gray, slick with a venomous green fluid from an earlier trap.

"Look at him go!" another voice barked. "Like a rat in a maze!"

A heavy thud vibrated through the earth as a massive creature landed just ten feet ahead of Lin, blocking his path. It was an Iron-Claw Eagle, its feathers shimmering like metallic shards under the moonlight. On its back sat Fang, a senior disciple of the Black Cloud Sect, his face twisted in a predatory grin.

"End of the line, trash," Fang said, leaping down with casual grace.

Two other disciples, Wei and Jin, emerged from the shadows behind Lin, swords drawn and dripping with gore. They had cornered him at the edge of the Veiled Ravine.

"Why, Fang?" Lin panted, backing toward the precipice. "We were part of the same hunting party. We swore an oath."

"An oath? You're actually sentimental? That's adorable," Fang laughed, tapping the hilt of his jade-encrusted saber. "You found a Jade-Spirit core, Lin. A 'trash' like you holding onto a treasure that could help me reach the Golden Core stage? That's the real crime here."

"I found it! I risked my life while you lot were hiding in the brush!" Lin spat, blood spraying from his lip.

"And now you're going to die for it," Wei stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Hand over the core and the bag. Maybe we won't feed your pathetic snake to the eagle while it's still breathing."

"You want the core?" Lin reached into his vest. "Come and take it."

"He’s still acting tough," Jin sneered, glancing at Fang. "Should I take his fingers first?"

"Be my guest. But don't ruin the robes. I want to search him thoroughly," Fang ordered.

Lin's hand didn't find the Jade Core. Instead, his fingers brushed against something cold, ancient, and unnervingly soft. It was the black scroll he had found in the depths of the Forbidden Grotto—the one the Sect Elders told everyone to avoid. He had kept it out of a desperate, primal instinct.

"What are you reaching for, rat?" Fang asked, his smile faltering. "A hidden weapon?"

"Shadow," Lin muttered under his breath, ignoring the thugs. "I'm sorry. I wasn't strong enough to protect you."

The serpent flickered its tongue one last time, a gesture of absolute, heartbreaking loyalty.

"Jin, stop playing! Kill him!" Fang shouted.

Jin lunged, his sword whistling through the damp air. Lin didn't dodge. He couldn't. Instead, he pulled out the pitch-black scroll and bit his own tongue hard, spraying a mouthful of essence-blood onto the charcoal-like parchment.

"What the hell is that?" Wei slowed down, squinting.

"Doesn't matter! Slash him!" Fang screamed, a sudden, inexplicable dread seizing his heart.

The sword was inches from Lin's throat when the forest went silent. The wind stopped. Even the Iron-Claw Eagle froze, its beak hanging open in mid-shriek. A low, vibrating hum began to shake the very marrow of their bones.

"Is... is the ground glowing?" Wei whispered, stepping back.

"Shut up! Kill him now!" Fang’s voice was high-pitched, almost a shriek.

Purple light, darker than the deepest night, erupted from the scroll. It didn't just illuminate the forest; it seemed to consume the darkness itself.

"The blood," a cold, feminine voice whispered—not from the air, but from inside Lin’s brain. "The sacrifice is accepted."

"What’s happening to my Eagle?" Fang yelled, looking at his beast.

The Iron-Claw Eagle was trembling. Its metallic feathers were melting, dripping like liquid silver onto the moss. It tried to fly, but its wings were suddenly heavy, pinned down by a gravity that shouldn't exist.

"Lin, stop this! What are you doing?" Jin cried out, dropping his sword as his hands began to blister.

Lin didn't answer. He couldn't. He felt a thousand needles piercing his soul. He looked down at his bundle.

"No... Shadow!" Lin cried.

The purple energy wasn't just coming out of the scroll; it was flowing into the serpent. Shadow's small body was stretching. Its bones were cracking, elongating with a sickening, wet sound. The gray scales were being ripped away by unseen talons, replaced by something dark, sleek, and terrifyingly beautiful.

"You're a monster, Lin Ardent! You’ve been practicing forbidden arts!" Fang accused, his face pale with terror. "Wei! Jin! Help me!"

"I'm... I'm paralyzed!" Wei shrieked. "Fang, my legs! I can't feel my legs!"

"The scroll... it’s eating the air," Jin wheezed, clutching his throat. "I can't... breathe..."

Lin felt the essence of the Shadow Serpent being rewritten. It wasn't death. It was a violent, cosmic rebirth.

"Whether you live or die as a human no longer matters," the voice in the scroll hissed. "Do you yield your humanity to command the Queens of the Forbidden?"

"Give me the strength to kill them," Lin growled, his eyes turning a sharp, reptilian gold. "Give me the strength to never be hunted again!"

"The contract is sealed," the voice answered. "Witness the first metamorphosis."

The purple light solidified into a pillar of absolute void. The pressure was so immense that the Iron-Claw Eagle exploded into a cloud of red mist and iron splinters. Fang was thrown back against a tree, his ribs shattering upon impact.

"What... what is that thing?" Fang gasped, clutching his chest, staring into the center of the light.

The light didn't reveal a monster. It revealed a silhouette. A tall, slender figure with curves that seemed carved from shadows.

"My... my Lord," the figure spoke. Her voice was velvet laced with lethality.

"Lin! What did you summon?" Wei screamed, crawling away on his elbows. "Help! Elders! Anyone!"

"There are no Elders here, Wei," Lin said, his voice cold, distant. "Only the remnants of the hunt."

Lin stood up. His wounds were still there, but he no longer felt the pain. He looked at the woman standing before him. She wore armor made of shimmering black scales, and her eyes—a deep, glowing emerald—were fixed on him with a terrifying mixture of hunger and devotion.

"Kill them," Lin commanded. "Leave nothing but the dirt."

"As you command, my Sovereign," the woman bowed.

In a flash of movement too fast for the human eye to track, she vanished.

A scream cut through the air, followed by a wet, gurgling sound.

"Wei! No!" Fang yelled, scrambling backward into the dark.

"Jin's gone! He just disappeared!" Wei’s voice died out as quickly as it had started.

Fang looked up to see a pair of long, pale legs ending in claw-like obsidian greaves standing right in front of him.

"Wait! Lin, please! I'll give you everything! My status, my family’s wealth! Don't let her touch me!" Fang pleaded, his bladder giving way.

"You called me trash, Fang," Lin walked slowly toward him, his face illuminated by the dying glow of the scroll. "Trash is meant to be burnt or buried."

"No! Please!"

The woman reached out a slender hand, her fingernails lengthening into sharp, obsidian points. She gripped Fang’s face, her touch leaving frost patterns on his skin.

"Be grateful, little human," she whispered in his ear. "Your life will sustain the evolution of a Queen."

A final, strangled cry echoed through the forest before a sharp snap silenced the night.

Lin watched as the woman turned back toward him, dropping Fang’s lifeless body like a discarded rag. She knelt in the mud, her long black hair cascading over her armored shoulders.

"It is done, my Sovereign," she said softly.

Lin stared at her. "Shadow? Is that... is that really you?"

"My name is Nila," she replied, her voice resonating in his heart through their contract. "The Shadow of your soul, given form to serve."

Lin’s knees gave out. The adrenaline was fading, and the weight of what he had done started to settle in. He had traded his path as a regular cultivator for something much darker.

"The cost..." Lin whispered, looking at the black scroll that now lay dormant on the ground.

"Are you afraid, Lord?" Nila asked, her eyes searching his.

"Afraid? No," Lin said, looking at his blood-stained hands. "I'm just wondering how many more of them I'll have to kill."

"All of them," Nila answered with a cruel, beautiful smile. "Until the world itself kneels."

The scroll pulsed one last time, and the voice of the ancient entity whispered its final warning for the night.

"One Queen awakened. Six remain in the void. Beware the light, little Sovereign, for the stars have noticed your theft."

Lin grabbed the scroll, his grip tightening until his knuckles turned white.

"Let them watch," he muttered. "Nila, can you hide?"

"I am the shadow, my Lord," she whispered, her form blurring and dissolving into a mist that flowed toward his feet, settling as a long, pitch-black shadow that moved independently of the trees. "I am always with you."

The sound of distant horns echoed from the direction of the Black Cloud Sect. They had felt the energy spike. The search parties would be coming.

"Then we have to go," Lin said, heading deeper into the Forbidden Forest. "The hunt has only just begun."

Lin paused for a moment, looking back at the mangled remains of his former brothers. There was no remorse. No guilt. Only a cold, crystalline clarity. The cultivation world was a meat grinder, and he had finally found a way to stop being the meat.

"The Black Cloud Sect wants a Sovereign?" he murmured to the darkness. "I’ll give them one they can never forget."

Inside his shadow, he heard a soft, feminine chuckle.

"Then let us find more essence, my Lord. Your journey is long, and I am very, very hungry."

Lin stepped into the deepest brush, disappearing before the first lanterns appeared at the top of the cliff.

Behind him, the Dim Forest grew quiet once more, keeping the secrets of the first transformation hidden within its blood-soaked soil. The path to the heavens had just been stained a permanent, irrevocable shade of purple.
