It was Rey’s girlfriend.

She saw Leon ,the body, and the mark.

Next thing a loud scream mire like a shriek tore out of her.

Leon moved before the guards arrived.

He had rehearsed escape routes in his head a thousand times; he did not need to map them now. He slipped away, before help arrived.

He did not look back.

Leon arrived home that night, exhausted but alive. He dropped his mask and knife on the table, his pulse still racing from the chaos.

Then, the glowing blue interface flickered in front of him.

MISSION COMPLETE Target: Rey Pembroke Status: Eliminated Experience: +800 XP

Reward:5,000,000.

Points:20

Leon blinked, stunned. 5,000,000. His jaw dropped. That was new,the system has never gift him millions.

He stared at the floating numbers in disbelief. His first million.

A shaky laugh escaped his lips. “Guess saving the world finally pays,” he muttered, collapsing onto his bed. The adrenaline began to fade, replaced by exhaustion.

his eyelids grew heavy and he fell asleep.

*******

The mansion buzzed with chaos. Red and blue lights flashed against the marble walls as uniformed officers moved in and out. Forensics snapped pictures, marking blood trails and footprints.

Detective Ethan Black stood near the grand staircase, his eyes scanning the crime scene. Rey Pembroke’s body was already covered, with a white sheet.

Officer Miller approached him, shaking his head. “You’re not gonna believe this, Ethan. They’re saying one man did this.”

Ethan arched a brow. “One man? You’re telling me someone broke into this fortress , past thirty armed guards, ten cameras, and a full security system , alone?”

Miller sighed. “I didn’t believe it either. But… you saw the mark on the body, right?”

Ethan looked toward the sheet again. “Yeah. The letter L. Burned into his forehead.”

“It was him,” Miller said quietly. “The vigilante everyone’s been whispering about.”

Ethan exhaled, eyes narrowing. “Then it looks like the rumors are real.”

A radio crackled. Miller was called away and hurried off, leaving Ethan alone.

He turned toward the sitting room, where Rey’s girlfriend sat on the couch, trembling under a blanket. Her mascara was smudged, and her hands wouldn’t stop shaking. Ethan crouched beside her, his voice low and calm.

“Miss, I know this is hard, but I need to know what you saw.”

She didn’t respond , just stared blankly ahead. Ethan waited a few seconds, then sighed and started to rise.

That’s when she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “It was one man.”

Ethan froze.

“He wore a mask,” she continued, her eyes flickering with terror. “I couldn’t see his face… but I remember one thing.”

“What’s that?” Ethan asked gently.

“There was a huge letter L on his outfit.”

Ethan’s stomach sank.

It was really him "L". He was real and he’d just made his first move.

Leon woke up that morning rubbing his temples. “Feels like I got run over by a truck,” he muttered.

He dragged himself out of bed, brushed his teeth, took a quick shower, and slipped into fresh clothes ,black jeans and a plain tee.

Then he sat on the couch in his livingroom, staring at the faint blue shimmer of the System Interface flickering before him.

“Alright,” he said, rubbing his palms together. “Let’s see what we got here.”

The holographic menu expanded.

(Mission Complete) Target: Rey Pembroke Status: Eliminated Experience: +800 XP

Reward:5,000,000.

Points:20 Weapons:new item available.

Leon’s eyebrows rose. “New item?”

He selected the glowing icon, and a small black pistol came up on the screen.

“Not bad,” he said with a smirk. “Guess they finally decided to give me a real toy.”

He flipped to his stats screen. His Strength bar was still pitifully low compared to Intelligence. “Yeah, that’s gotta change.”

He dumped all twenty points into Strength.

“Good,” Leon muttered, closing the screen with a wave. “No more getting my ass kicked.”

He stood up, went to the kitchen, and made himself a quick breakfast toast and a cup of coffee.

He turned on the TV, the morning news was on.

And there she was.

Gwen.

Standing under the flashing lights of Rey Pembroke’s mansion, microphone in hand, hair perfectly in place, voice calm and professional.

“Business man and owner of Pembroke's Industries, has been murdered over night, just hours after he was released and cleared of all charges. Authorities have yet to release any suspects, but sources say the mysterious letter L found at the scene may indicate a pattern…”

Leon leaned back in his chair, with a small smile at his lips.

“Wow,” he said quietly. “She really is a reporter.”

He smirked, and took a sip of his coffee.

********

Detective Ethan Black sat at his desk, staring at the wall of screens that looped the same grainy footage from the Pembroke mansion. His coffee had gone cold hours ago.

He rewound the tape again. The same dark blur moved past the outer gate. No face, no features , just a flicker of motion, then static.

“How the hell…” Ethan muttered, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “How does someone get past thirty guards and ten active cameras without a trace?”

He leaned back in his chair, staring at the paused image.

The mark on Rey Pembroke’s forehead , a bold L, burned into the skin.

It wasn’t just a kill. It was a message.

And it won't be the last.

Officer Miller walked in, a fresh file in hand. “You’re still watching that?”

Ethan didn’t look away. “You ever seen anything like this before?”

Miller shook his head. “No prints. No footprints either. Forensics says whoever it was moved like a ghost.”

Ethan sighed. “Ghosts don’t use knives, Miller.”

He flipped the file open again. The timeline didn’t make sense. Entry points, guard rotations, power grid , all normal until exactly 1:47 a.m. Then every camera inside the mansion blinked off for six minutes.

When they came back online, Rey Pembroke was already dead.

“Six minutes,” Ethan said softly. “That’s all it took.”

Miller crossed his arms. “You think it’s one guy?”

Ethan looked back at the frozen frame, the faint shadow of a masked figure. “No,” he said finally. “No way one person pulls this off. Not this clean. Not against that kind of security.”

He tapped the folder with his pen. “I think L is a team , coordinated, professional, well-trained. Maybe ex-military. Maybe mercs.”

Miller frowned. “Then why leave a mark?”

“That’s what bothers me.” Ethan leaned forward. “It’s theatrical. Someone wanted attention. You don’t brand your victims unless you want the world to know you did it.”

He stood up, pacing slowly. “Either we’re dealing with a group sending a message…”

He paused.

“Or one hell of a psychopath".

Ethan stared at the looping footage one last time before turning it off and standing up.

"Get every available officers ready".he said to Miller and left the office in a hurry.

*********

The day felt unusually quiet. No mission alerts. No glowing blue screens. No ticking countdowns.

Just silence.

Leon sat on the couch, pencil in hand, sketching superheroes on a scrap of paper ,capes, masks, powers, all the stuff he wished he had when the System wasn’t trying to get him killed.

He glanced at the blank air in front of him. No mission pop-ups. No messages. “That’s weird,” he muttered. “The System’s quiet today. What, did it go on vacation?”

His pencil slipped from his hand and rolled across the floor, disappearing under the couch.

“Perfect,” Leon grumbled. He knelt down, reached an arm under, but the pencil had gone deeper. He tried to lift the couch and it barely moved an inch.

“What the hell?” he said, trying again. The thing felt like it was bolted to the floor. “I thought I added all my points to strength. Shouldn’t I be throwing furniture by now?”

With a frown, he swiped his hand through the air to and went to Strength stat. The Strength stat glowed faintly -Pending activation: 5-mile run required.

Leon blinked. “Five miles?” He read it again. “You’ve gotta be kidding me. I just murdered a millionaire with a dagger, and now you want cardio?”

He groaned, letting his head fall back against the couch. “Nope. Not happening. Not today.”

That was when the knock came.

Three hard bangs against the door.

Leon froze. “Who the hell…?” He stood up,heading to the door. “I didn’t order pizza today.”

He walked over, still half-expecting a delivery guy. But when he pulled the door open.

Detective Ethan Black stood there, followed by two uniformed officers.

“Leon Vergas, You’re under arrest for the possible murder of Rey Pembroke.”
