Caiden turned towards them, saying slowly. “I live here.”

Before Caiden knew, the neighbors had all begun to come out one by one. Someone looked familiar in the midst of the crowd. He stopped to look deeper.

Dr. Mark. His rival from the hospital. He came from a very wealthy family and was one of Maelie’s close friends.

“Heyy, look at me before I smash this button on your head!” The man yelled with fury. “I'm talking to you and you're looking elsewhere.”

One of his men came from the back, tapping his shoulders. “Don't worry, don't shout too much Chiefman….I'll deal with him and then began advancing towards Caiden.”

“Who sent you or you sent yourself?” The second man growled, raising his hand to strike Caiden who rushed his hand up in reflex.

“Calm please! Let me talk.”

“What do you want to say? This Block belongs to the world's richest and you're here for…”

“I live in the King’s block.”

Immediately he said this, the neighbors roared in laughter. “You? Such a bold impersonator?”

“How?” Caiden ached his brow.

Chiefman lunged forth and grabbed his neck. “Who are you? Talk now before we break your head and legs. Of all blocks and estates, you chose here for burglary?”

The case was escalating. Caiden’s men weren't close and their phones must have been submitted as they were in intense preparation for the Auction tonight. He had asked Michael to go. He was here alone.

If he doesn't stand up for himself, these men will definitely deal with him. He put off the calm demeanor as it wasn't helping.

“Will you get off me now?”

Chiefman edged his brows, brandishing his baton. His group froze briefly before bursting into laughter. The jovial moment before disaster.

“Ha! Did this pretty boy just tell me, Chiefman, to leave? What a joke. You’ve been watching too many superhero movies. Trying to act like some hero, huh?”

“Boss, why waste time? Let’s just deal with him!” one of the thugs shouted as he swung a steel pipe towards Caiden’s head. Others were definitely going to join when a loud scream came.

“Heyyyyyyy! Stop!!! He's Dr. Howard.” The guard's hand froze midair.

“The doctor who helped my sister with her ectopic pregnancy years ago and my cousin deliver septuplets naturally.”’

“He's a genius.”

Everything stopped and everyone turned to look at who was speaking. Caiden raised his eyes slowly to see who had spoken for him, when Dr. Mark whom he knew personally silently watched.

To his greatest shock, he grabbed the woman. “You don't know him better than I do.” All eyes were redirected to Mark.

“News reaching me from his fiancee reveals he's been fired. Before a genius doctor like him can be fired, he must have committed a deadly crime.”

The woman narrowed her eyes in shock. Caiden was speechless.

“Don't defend who you don't know. He must have had that criminal spirit in him to come steal the moment he got sacked.”

“Let me prove it to you.” He picked up his phone and dialed some numbers.

“Let me call the daughter of the man who owns this block.”

“The billionaire heiress, the Chief Medical Director at Howard?” The neighbors are asked.

Dr. Mark grinned. Caiden stood still, watching everything unfold without a single flinch.

“Hello Maelie, guess where your ex is?” Suspense and anticipation rose in the air. He placed the phone on speaker, turning on the video function videoing Caiden.

“He came straight to your dad's block. Who knows what he came to do…”

A loud shout erupted from the phone causing the neighbors to gather. Seeing Maelie they believed Mark.

“I've been looking for him. Nevan’s men are gone in search of him. Let me quickly tell him.”

“Looking for him now?” Mark asked, curious.

“Yes, he stole my dad's card. The Black Mortgage Card. My dad is panicking, returning back. I'm just confused….how he managed to. Please grab him!”

Everywhere first blurred.

“Mark had said it!” The neighbors said.

“Give us that card!” The guards lunged at him.

Everything happened in a whirlwind.

The thug who attacked first was now lying on the ground, clutching his stomach in agony.

At some point, Caiden had already taken the steel pipe from him.

In the next instant, Caiden moved like a flash of light.

Heavier groans rang in the air as one attacker after another collapsed, groaning in pain. The neighbors retreated. “So for real, he's a burglar.”

“He's a criminal!” Dr. Mark shouted in confirmation but from a distance. “You shouldn't have defended him, Cecilia.”

“So that's her name?” Caiden thought within him.

People took out their phones to call the police when a man came running inside. “Dr. Howard, Michael sent me. Your file is missing at the HR. We need your passport and full Pic to process your digital details.”

“So you choose here?”

Caiden nodded. Those who had wanted to call the police dropped their phones, watching in disbelief as things unfolded.

“And the card, the boss needs you to use it for the commercials. Video must be ready before the Auction. It's the very sent forth we can give to you.”

The neighbors burst out laughing. Cecilia folded her palms with fury.

“So he pretended to be something when he's just here for a commercial with a fake card?” They were pissed but couldn't help ignoring the amusing feeling this event brought them.

However one person stood still as the pictures were taken of him. Cecilia. She stood up to defend him, normally she wasn't one that would stand up to defend people randomly but because of what he did for her sister and cousin.

Caiden was snapped and the man rushed off. The neighbors had all left one-by-one to attend to important things.

Mark was the last to leave but not without making a disappointed call to Maelie. “Such a fake dude. The card is fake. His presence here for a commercial. His sent forth.”

But suddenly his face twisted, terror overwhelmed him.

Mark’s expression darkened.

“Don't worry, I'll be there right away.” Saying this, he rushed off leaving Caiden staring, guessing it's an emergency.

The celebration of the relationship was done at Roman's house. Just Roman, Lena, Carlos and Zara. Roman wanted to make a toast to it and welcome Zara to the family officially. The next few days were good, everything followed the smoother path. Well, until a fine morning. A press story broke out from an anonymous source claiming Roman used political connections to secure the infrastructure deal unfairly. The heading was ghastly. “Roman secures infrastructure deals from frolicking rather than bidding.” The story went on to accuse Roman of being in a relationship with Elara, labelling it as the reason he got the job. Photos of him and Elara in the restaurant were also surfacing. The claims that he was cheating on his wife also surfaced and his image was slowly getting tarnished. The story was of major concern. It wasn't just a business story, but a public and moral one. Roman had always been seen as a moral person and this definitely made people question him. Even though the stor

In the weeks after Edward Ashford’s arrest, Caiden experienced a silence unlike anything he had known since before the auction. The media moved on from scandal to something closer to praise, framing him as the doctor who had inherited a legacy, uncovered his mother’s truth, and helped bring down a decades-old criminal network. It was the sort of story journalists were quick to embrace, and for the first time, Caiden found he didn’t resist being at its center. But the stillness unsettled him. After so long in constant conflict, he had almost forgotten what it meant to live without it.“You need to relax,” Cecilia said one evening as they sat on the penthouse balcony, watching the sunset spread color across the sky. “The Consortium is finished. Ashford is in custody. The immediate threats are gone. You’re allowed to breathe again.”“There’s still his protégé,” Caiden said. “The woman who delivered the flash drive. We don’t know her identity, or what she’s really after.”“We do know she

The following morning after the wedding, Caiden stirred before sunrise. Cecilia was still asleep beside him, one hand lightly resting on his chest, her breathing even and calm. He stayed still, watching the faint light of early morning slip through the curtains, his mind turning over everything that had already happened, and everything still ahead. On the nightstand lay the flash drive the unknown woman had delivered. Marcus had spent the night going through it, and a preliminary report was already waiting on Caiden’s phone. He hadn’t opened it yet. For a few hours, he had chosen to keep the war at a distance, just long enough to have one night that belonged entirely to them. Now the night has ended.Caiden eased himself out of bed as quietly as possible, careful not to disturb Cecilia. Despite his effort, she shifted anyway, she always seemed to notice.“Where are you going?” she asked, her voice still thick with sleep.“To go through Marcus’s report,” he said softly. “Go back to bed

The wedding day came with clear skies and an unseasonably warm breeze. The rooftop garden had been completely transformed, like something out of a fairytale. Glass candles lined the walkways, soft light flickering against the evening air, while white and gold flowers covered every surface in carefully arranged abundance. Somewhere nearby, a string quartet played gently as guests settled into their seats, the music drifting through the open space.Michael had organized security with military-level precision. Every attendee was carefully screened, every supplier thoroughly checked. Plainclothes operatives were placed strategically across the hospital grounds, while FBI agents blended into the guest list. Commander Ellis had even brought in his team from London as a personal favor. If the Consortium intended to strike, they wouldn’t find a ceremony, they would find a heavily fortified stronghold.Caiden stood at the altar with Michael beside him as his best man. For the first time, ther

The engagement was made public in a quiet way, a brief newspaper notice and an official statement from the hospital’s PR team. After months of intense media attention, Caiden and Cecilia had decided they wanted this announcement to remain personal and low-key.However, the news still spread quickly. Congratulations came in from all parts of Caiden’s circle. Evelyn Cho sent a large bouquet of flowers with a simple note that said, “Finally.” Marcus Webb dropped by Caiden’s office with a premium bottle of whiskey and a grin that seemed impossible to contain. From Dubai, Amir called to offer his blessings and even proposed hosting the wedding at one of his family’s palaces.Even Maelie sent a card. It was simple, handwritten, almost restrained: “Congratulations to you both. Wishing you every happiness.”Caiden read it once, then again, before quietly putting it away. The person she used to be in his life felt like a distant memory now, familiar, yet unreachable. They had both become diffe

Michael found him the next morning, waiting outside his office with an expression that meant bad news."Edward Ashford is dead."Caiden stopped mid-stride. "How?""His body was found at an estate in Switzerland. Apparent heart attack. The Swiss authorities are calling it natural causes.""You don't believe that.""I don't believe in coincidence." Michael handed him a tablet with the Swiss police report. "He died three days ago, right after our press conference. Right after we released the evidence against him.""He knew we were coming for him. The stress—""Maybe. Or maybe someone else got to him first. Someone who didn't want him talking."Caiden stared at the report. Edward Ashford had been the architect of his mother's murder. The founder of the Consortium. The shadow that had hung over his family for thirty years. And now he was dead before Caiden could face him."There are others still out there," Michael continued. "The Consortium's leadership was never just one man. Ashford was
