David Beldham stepped back into the house, his polished shoes silent against the thick Persian rug.

The hallway, once bright with natural light, now seemed dimmer, as if the life had been drained out od it completely.

He removed his gloves slowly, one finger at a time, before heading toward the lounge where the doctor was placing his stethoscope gently into his worn leather case.

The old man straightened slightly as David approached, his face composed, but his eyes weary.

“Well?” David asked, voice low but firm.

The doctor gave a small sigh.

“It’s as I suspected. She is really weak, your Grace. Her pulse was faint, and her blood pressure is extremely low. It's not just emotional distress anymore, actually, she hasn’t been eating properly for quite some time, which is likely what led to her collapse.”

David’s jaw clenched. His eyes flicked toward the staircase, then back to the doctor.

“And there is nothing you can do?”

The doctor shook his head.

“Your Grace, my apologies but I ca

  • Severing the Ties

Julius sat beside Miley, the heavy curtains drawn, creating a cosy atmosphere where the two of them were lost in the heat resting between them: quiet, restrained, but unmistakably fierce. He spoke slowly, his voice even. “The traces in your blood… the destabilizers… it was all due to Laura. She sent some flowers to you through a new maid, they were laced with something, and so was the tea.”Miley sat still, the robe cinched tightly around her waist, her fingers laced in her lap. Her chin lifted slightly, but she didn't show any other emotion. “How long have you known?” She asked and Julius inhaled sharply. “Well, I have suspected for a while now… but all of it was only confirmed after Geoffrey talked.”“And you waited… even after promising me?”“I wanted everything airtight,” he said. “If we moved too early, she would have buried it. She’s not reckless, she is practiced at this, Miles.”Miley looked away, her eyes glassy but dry.“She drugged me, Julius. She knew exactly what los

  • Bleeding out

Laura Colton’s fingers were shaking as she crushed the wine goblet in her hand. She had been pulled aside from the wine-tasting event she was hosting for the influential elites, hoping to get some relaxation for her son before Quella gave birth. But now, it seemed like Julius wasn't going to let them live in peace anymore. Her assistant had informed her about a vague article that had been published by a mid-tier news site known for political leaks. It hinted, without direct accusation, that a high-society heir’s spouse was allegedly preparing to press charges for medical tampering connected to her recent collapse. Although Julius had purposefully kept the wording as vague as possible and even leaked the article on purpose, Laura had no idea. In fact, she thought that she had gotten access to this top-secret news thanks to her sources, and Miley Colton was definitely pressing charges against her for medical tampering.“She wouldn’t…” Laura muttered aloud, pacing the length of the r

  • Grateful?

The rooftop café of the Imperial Crest Hotel was a space reserved only for the discreet and dangerously rich. Laura Colton was here for a quick distraction with her friends, wearing oversized sunglasses and sipping chilled cucumber vodka. She was surrounded by three well-groomed socialites, her supposed friends, as they exchanged gossips, until a tall shadow fell on their table. Julius stepped into the terrace, making his way directly to their table. His black coat caught the wind behind him, and a few of the women at the table stiffened when they saw him approach. But Laura didn’t show any reaction, wanting to give him as little attention as she could. She crossed one leg over the other, lazily raising her glass.“You’ve interrupted my brunch…”She said without looking up. “Unless you’ve come to thank me for saving you from a peasant marriage, don’t waste my time.”“We need to talk, regardless of your delusions, aunt Laura.”She finally looked at him, lowering her sunglasses just

  • Snake in the flowers

Julius remained perfectly quiet, pressed against the stone wall outside the storage corridor. The conversation was still going on, on the other side of the slightly cracked door, and he felt each word slicing his heart into pieces. “This isn’t why you were paid, right?” The voice over the phone was cold and rude. “I have no use for incompetent people who bring me half -baked news and information. Get out of my sight, right now! You'll get half of the amount that was promised and not a penny more, low class people like you only understand things when your money is taken away.”"No, please! This is not fair!" The maid’s voice shook a little with dear, but panic had turned her voice completely shrill. “I.. I did what I was paid for! The baby is gone—”Something slammed hard on the other end, cutting her off. “All that’s left for you to scream about is that? You idiot!” The other voice was wild with rage. “You better shut the fuck up and not tell a single soul… Or else I’ll do muc

  • Wife

Julius Colton didn’t wait for a single moment.Within fifteen minutes of Miley’s fall, the grand east wing of the Colton estate had transformed into an emergency medical center. Surgeons, diagnostic specialists, and top-tier obstetricians flooded through the secured gates. A private hospital’s worth of equipment was rolled into the marble halls: IV drips, mobile monitors, portable analyzers. The security team was doubled, every hallway locked down under silent protocol.Miley lay pale and unconscious in the rosewood room just off the conservatory, wrapped in warm blankets. Her IV hummed gently, a saline drip punctuated with stabilizers. Her vitals were monitored round the clock.Julius stood by her side, jaw set, shirt sleeves rolled up, blood from earlier still dried beneath his cuff. Two of the lead doctors gathered at the foot of the bed, whispering behind clipboards.“She’s stable, but her vitals are sluggish,” said Dr. Marron, the senior diagnostic consultant. “It doesn’t make

  • Legacy and Light

The Colton estate was plunged into its usual silence, but after a long period of time, it didn't feel as suffocating or stressful as before. After weeks of firestorms, resulting in courtroom battles, cyber breaches, blackmail, poison, surveillance, betrayal… it felt like the flowers were finally breathing again. Even the staff seemed to be in a lighter mood, smiling more often, no longer haunted by tension in every hallway.Julius stood in the grand corridor, watching Miley tie her robe, the soft morning light casting silver over her profile. Her cheeks were gaining their color again, the dark circles around her eyes were fading, and the spark… that fire she carried when she walked into battle beside him, was slowly returning to her heart. “My love…”He said gently, offering his hand, “There is something I want to show you.”She turned towards him, curious but willing to indulge him. “What is it? Julius… don't tell me! Are you about to introduce a new Android surveillance system t
