Eryndra’s breathing was racing against the ticking clock. The Maheswara Plaza basement was pitch black, lit only by the strobe of a flickering red emergency light. Thick, suffocating smoke from the evacuation filled the air, but he didn't slow down. His expensive shoes slammed against the rough concrete, echoing through the eerie, underground tunnel.

Past trauma, the dark memory of his first death in this very spot, flashed in his mind, but Eryndra shoved it aside with nerves of steel. History won't repeat itself, he thought, burning with rage. This time, I’m the one writing the ending.

His phone vibrated hard in his pocket. The screen lit up with an incoming video call from an unknown number. Without stopping, he swiped to answer.

Raka’s face appeared, looking pale in the dim light of a flashlight. Behind him, Livia Arundhati was tied tight to an old metal chair. She was gagged, her eyes wide with terror, staring into the camera as tears streamed down her face. Right beneath the chair sat a pile of dynamite with tangled red and blue wires, emitting a sickening, rhythmic beep.

"See her, Ery?" Raka’s voice crackled, sounding like a total madman. "Pretty, isn't she? Your bridetobe, sitting pretty, waiting for her prince to come save her."

Eryndra skidded to a halt at a corner, gasping for air. "Raka! Let her go! Your beef is with me, not Livia!"

"It’s all about us, Eryndra!" Raka screamed, shoving the phone into Livia’s face, making her thrash around. "You stole my family's company! You humiliated me in front of the investors! And now, you think you can just live happily ever after on the ruins of my life?"

"Don't touch her!" Eryndra growled, his voice radiating a lethal threat that made the air in the corridor turn freezing. "If even one hair on her head is harmed, I’ll make your death slower than hell itself."

Raka burst into wild, insane laughter. "Nice threat, Mr. Maheswara! But let's see how your genius brain holds up under pressure. We’ve only got... four minutes left!"

Raka flipped the camera around to show a huge digital clock on the damp concrete wall. The red numbers glowed: 04:12... 04:11...

"You’ve got a choice, Ery," Raka hissed triumphantly. "On the dynamite panel, there’s a red wire and a blue one. Cut the wrong one, and boom! Livia gets blown to bits along with you. Or... turn back now, save your own skin, and let her keep me company in hell."

Livia struggled harder against her bonds, shaking her head as if telling Eryndra not to listen to Raka's nonsense. Her eyes showed total resignation mixed with incredible strength in the face of death.

Eryndra squinted at the screen. His brain was spinning a thousand miles an hour, analyzing the building's structure, the layout of the old control room at the end of the hall, and the psychopath holding the detonator.

"Four minutes is more than enough to send you to your grave, Raka," Eryndra said coldly, cutting the call before Raka could even answer.

The screen went black. Eryndra shoved the phone back into his pocket, pulled a pistol from under his jacket, and sprinted back through the smoke. His memory of the old Maheswara Plaza blueprints guided him straight ahead. The old control room, the secret place where his family’s dynasty was built and broken.

Three minutes and fifty seconds.

Eryndra kicked the heavy metal door to the control room, swinging it open with a deafening bang. Inside, surrounded by dust and broken servers, Raka stood holding the detonator remote, while Livia sat tied in the corner, just a few meters from the dynamite.

"You... how did you get here this fast?!" Raka gasped, his face draining of color as he saw Eryndra standing in the doorway, his gun pointed straight at Raka’s forehead.

The countdown on the wall hit four minutes. Negotiation time was over. Eryndra stepped toward Raka with a lethal gaze, ignoring the final seconds ticking away above their heads.

In the video’s background, Livia Arundhati was tied tight to an old metal chair, thick, rough rope winding around her body, while stacks of commercial dynamite wrapped in red wires circled the floor at her feet."You're late, Eryndra!" Raka’s laugh broke out, shrill against the stuttering hum of the old basement fan. "Four minutes left! Four minutes before this building, your precious girlfriend, and all your ambitions go up in smoke!"Eryndra didn't slow his pace for a second, even as his breath hitched and cold sweat mixed with cement dust on his brow. The pitchblack basement corridor felt like a death trap, but his eyes stayed sharp as a hawk’s. He knew exactly where the main control room was, the spot where Raka was cowering like a scared sewer rat."Raka," Eryndra’s voice boomed, cold enough to cut through the man’s hysterica

  • Chapter 7: The Gala of Shadows

The stone walls of the hidden passage were slick with a moss that smelled like old copper and damp earth. Kaizen’s boots squelched in the muck, every step a jarring reminder of the claymore-shaped bruise forming on his ribs. Behind him, Liora’s breathing was shallow, rhythmic, and far too fast."You still with me, Commander?" Kaizen whispered, his voice echoing off the narrow walls."Don't call me that, Kaizen. We’re traitors now, remember? The title probably comes with a death warrant these days.""Fair point. You still breathing, then?""Barely. That tunnel collapse back at the base took more out of me than I’d like to admit. How’s the leg?"Kaizen glanced down at his thigh. The black ichor was pulsing so hard it felt like a second heart. "It’s hungry. That’s the only way I can describe it. It’s like a dog straining at a leash that isn't there anymore.""Keep it together. We’re underneath the North Wing. If the maps Veyna stole are right, the servant’s lift should be right behind th

The mud from the Blackwood estate was still wet on Kaizen’s boots as he slumped into a chair in the Echo Base’s central hub. His skin felt two sizes too small, humming with a residual heat that made the very air around him shimmer. Across the table, Liora stared at the shattered fragments of the gold seal, her hands trembling just enough to be noticeable."You’re staring at it again," Kaizen said, his voice a dry rasp. "It’s just metal, Liora.""It wasn’t just metal, Kaizen," Liora replied, finally looking up. Her silver eyes were rimmed with exhaustion. "That was a relic of the First Era. It was supposed to be absolute. Nothing—nothing human or otherwise—should have been able to crack it.""Well, I guess I’m the 'otherwise' then," Kaizen muttered. He glanced toward the infirmary wing. "How are the others?""Rafen’s stabilized. Helia’s got a neck brace on and she’s already swearing at the IV drips, so she’ll live," Zavian grunted, stepping into the light. He looked at Kaizen with a ne

  • Chapter 5: The Blood of Origin

The carriage ride away from the Ministry was silent, the air inside the cabin heavy with the lingering scent of Liora’s expensive perfume and the metallic tang of the ichor buzzing in Kaizen’s veins. The city lights blurred past the window, a smear of gold against the rainy night."You're shaking, Kaizen," Liora said, her eyes fixed on the small brass receiver in her lap. "Is it the collar?""It’s everything," Kaizen muttered, leaning his head against the cold glass. "That woman on the balcony, Oriel... she said the collar wasn't even calibrated right. She said I was 'bleeding resonance'.""Oriel Naska is a ghost and a liar. You shouldn't have listened to a word she said.""She knew my name, Liora. She knew about the warehouse. How does a 'ghost' know what I did to a Skin-Walker three hours after it happened?"Liora didn't answer. She just tapped the receiver. A series of clicks and low-frequency hums filled the carriage."Quiet. The bug is moving," she whispered. "Tanos didn't stay f

  • Chapter 4: Infiltrating the Ministry

As the echoes of the warehouse raid faded into the damp night, the adrenaline that had surged through Kaizen’s veins began to settle into something far more dangerous: a cold, predatory clarity. He watched the cleanup crew haul Rafen away, his eyes lingering on the dark smears of demon blood on the floor."Stop staring at the mess, Kaizen. We have more pressing problems than your newfound appetite."Liora’s voice cut through his trance like a shard of glass. She was already wiping her silver blade, her expression wiped clean of the fear he’d seen earlier."Rafen’s going to be okay?" Kaizen asked, his voice sounding deeper to his own ears."He’ll have some spectacular bruises and a story he’s not allowed to tell anyone," Liora replied, sheathing her sword. "But you? You’re a mess. Get in the carriage. We have four hours to turn a Lowland grunt into something that won't get kicked out of the Ministry of Defense.""The Ministry? I thought we were laying low after… whatever that was.""Th
