[The Gallery-being 'The Auditor of Ash' tilts its head in extreme interest.]

[The Gallery-being 'The Crowned Ember' demands to know what you mean by 'blackmail'.]

[500 Tribute has been sponsored.]

[Current Tribute: 23,200]

Noël didn't answer the messages floating in his vision.

Explaining a plan to the Gallery before executing it was a rookie mistake. The audience was fickle. If he gave away the punchline early, the donation rate dropped by half.

"Noël," Gideon said, his boots crunching against the wet cobblestones as he stepped beside him. "Did you say 'blackmail a Registrar'?"

"I said we need to inspect local trade options," Noël replied smoothly.

"You literally said 'blackmail a Registrar'."

"Your ears are playing tricks on you due to ether exhaustion."

Gideon stared at him, his lip twitching slightly. "You are an incredibly bizarre individual."

It was a simple story.

In the Codex hierarchy, Registrar-Spirits were lower-tier administrative entities assigned to manage scenario feeds, track mortal statistics, and calculate Tribute distributions. To mortals, they appeared as untouchable agents of cosmic law.

However, to someone who carried sixty timelines of administrative records in his head, they were just underpaid, overworked middle-managers bound by strict operational quotas.

And junior Registrars were the most desperate of all.

"Lyra, Elara," Noël said, turning to the two women. "Take the salvaged Aethelgard plating and the power coils we pulled from the wasteland. Sell them at the primary bazaar near the central plaza. Buy three days' worth of high-density rations, two Tier-1 ether cartridges, and basic medical salves."

He transferred 3,000 Tribute to Lyra's newly established network account.

Lyra caught the System ping, her eyes widening. "3,000 Tribute?! Noël, are you sure? That's a fortune for basic supplies!"

"Buy the good quality stuff," he said. "Trial #8 won't be lenient."

"Got it." Lyra nodded briskly, grabbing Elara's arm. "Come on, Elara. Let me show you how to haggle with scrap merchants."

As the two girls headed toward the crowded, neon-lit central market, Gideon remained behind, his hand resting on his rapier sheath.

"And us?" Gideon asked. "Are we going to this pawnshop?"

"Yes."

Noël turned on his heel and walked down the descending stone staircase toward the lower docks of Sector Three.

The upper levels of the Sanctuary were illuminated by golden mana-lamps, but as they descended into the lower subterranean rings, the light degraded into a sickly, flickering neon blue. The air grew damp, thick with the smell of engine oil, cheap liquor, and stale mana-smoke.

This was the unregistered sector. A place where vagrants without Tribute huddled around burning ether drums, and illegal trade stalls sold unvetted skill scrolls.

His left eye throbbed quietly.

Through the Gyre Eye, the structural decay of the lower ring was glaringly obvious. Faint violet lines traced the cracked ceiling vaults, indicating severe mana-leakage from the main plaza above.

'It's worse than the 3rd timeline,' he thought.

In the 3rd timeline, this lower ring had been reinforced by the local Syndicate garrison. But in this timeline, the 6th, the Syndicate's main forces had been crippled by his administrative audit at the boundary gate.

The world had already diverged.

"Here."

Noël stopped in front of a cramped, crooked alleyway sandwiched between a rusted water reclamation tower and a demolished alchemy lab.

At the end of the alley stood a dilapidated storefront with a faded blue neon sign hanging precariously from a single wire.

Tally's Pawn & Registrar Services.

Gideon looked at the shopfront, then at Noël. "A Registrar spirit works out of a trash heap?"

"A junior Registrar spirit," Noël corrected.

He pushed open the creaking wooden door.

Chiiime.

A dusty brass bell chimed overhead. The shop interior was suffocatingly small, stacked from floor to ceiling with yellowed paper scrolls, rusted Aethelgard gear-teeth, shattered mana-drives, and unpaid tax ledgers.

Behind a high wooden counter sat a tiny, floating creature no taller than three feet.

It wore a wrinkled, oversized clerk's coat that sagged off its narrow shoulders. A crooked brass monocle perched on its long, pointed nose, and a pair of tiny white gloves covered in ink stains concealed its hands. Two small, translucent wings fluttered weakly behind its back.

"Closed! We're closed!" the spirit squawked without looking up from the massive ledger it was scribbling in. "No loans! No scrap appraisals! The regional broadcast window is locked until the next scenario phase!"

"Tally," Noël called out calmly.

The spirit froze. The brass monocle slipped off its nose, dangling by its thin silver chain.

Slowly, the spirit turned its head, squinting through its large, glassy blue eyes.

"H-How do you know my name?" Tally stammered, its tiny wings buzzing frantically. "Wait... a mortal? Two mortals? How did you get down here without an appointment ticket?"

Noël walked up to the wooden counter and rested his hands on the worn varnish.

"Registrar Tally. Grade 4 Junior Administrator of the Sector Three Crucible broadcast node," he said, his voice deadpan. "Current performance evaluation: Critical Deficit. Pending operational fine: 45,000 Tribute."

Tally's pale blue skin instantly turned paper-white.

"W-W-What?!" Tally squeaked, leaping off its high stool and hovering in the air, its tiny hands waving frantically. "H-How do you know my evaluation score?! That's classified System administrative data! Who are you?! Are you an auditor from the Central Spire?!"

Gideon's eyebrows shot up. He glanced at Noël with an expression that clearly said: What on earth are you doing?

Noël made a dark expression and continued.

"In seventy-two hours, the Quarterly Codex Review will take place," he said, leaning closer. "You currently hold zero featured channels. Your viewership rating in the lower Gallery is below 0.01%. And to cover your monthly quota, you illegally assigned a hidden-instance key to an unregistered Aethelgard Iron Chest in your back room."

"I-I didn't!" Tally shrieked, clutching its chest. "That chest was... it was surplus scrap!"

"Section 44, Subsection C of the Codex Administrative Charter," Noël recited softly. "An unassigned hidden-instance key retained by a Registrar spirit for personal liquidity is classified as high treason against the System Core. The punishment is complete soul-dissolution."

"Aiiiiiiiiiieeeeee!"

Tally buried its face in its ink-stained gloves, dropping out of the air and landing back on its stool with a pathetic plop.

"I'm ruined! I'm dead! A mortal is going to report me to the Spire Auditors!" Tally sobbed quietly. "I just wanted to buy a new coat! The draft in this basement is terrible..."

Tally wept bitterly, wiping its nose on its oversized sleeve.

Tiiiing!

[The Gallery-being 'The Auditor of Ash' is stunned into silence by your precise citation of the Codex Charter.]

[The Gallery-being 'The Crowned Ember' is roaring with laughter at the Clerk-Spirit's pathetic reaction.]

[The Gallery-being 'The Hollow Cartographer' is deeply impressed by your administrative blackmail.]

[1,000 Tribute has been sponsored.]

[Current Tribute: 24,200]

Noël didn't actually intend to report Tally.

If he reported Tally, the Spire Auditors would confiscate the shop, lock down the node, and replace Tally with a strict, high-tier Registrar who couldn't be manipulated.

A crooked, desperate Registrar was far more valuable than an honest one.

"I won't report you," Noël said calmly.

Tally stopped sniffling. One glassy blue eye peeked through its tiny fingers. "Y-You won't?"

"On one condition."

Noël pulled a blank parchment scroll from his coat pocket, a standard System Contract parchment he had purchased at the gate terminal for 50 Tribute, and slammed it onto the counter.

"An exclusive broadcasting agreement," he said.

Tally blinked. "A... broadcasting contract? With a Tier 1 vagrant?"

"I will provide your channel with exclusive, high-lethal trial feeds, loophole demonstrations, and hidden-instance clearances," Noël outlined the terms clearly. "In exchange, you will register me as an 'Independent System Contractor'."

Tally squinted at the scroll. "And... the revenue split?"

"10:0," Noël said.

"10 for me and 0 for you?!" Tally asked, hope flashing in its eyes.

"10 for me, 0 for you," Noël corrected flatly. "You get 100% of the viewership metrics to clear your performance deficit with the Spire, and I keep 100% of the direct Gallery Tribute sponsorships. In addition, you will give me the Aethelgard Iron Chest in your back room right now as an advance signing bonus."

Gideon stared at Noël, completely speechless. "You're taking all the money, taking his illegal chest, and forcing him to do your paperwork?"

"It's a fair business transaction," Noël replied.

"How is that fair?!" Tally shrieked, floating up into the air again. "That's complete extortion! You're robbing a public servant!"

"The Spire Audit is in seventy-two hours, Tally," Noël said softly, looking at his wristwatch. "You have sixty seconds to decide before I file an anonymous report at the local Registry terminal."

"U-Ugh... Kuuuuuuuh!"

Tally clutched its head, its small wings buzzing in a panic. It looked at the blank contract, then at Noël's cold, unblinking eyes.

"Y-You monster!" Tally wept, snatching a feather quill from its desk. "You absolute vagrant demon!"

Scratch, scratch, scratch.

Tally signed its official spirit-sigil onto the bottom of the parchment in glowing golden ink.

Tiiiing!

[A binding System Contract has been established!]

[Contractee: Noël Voss]

[Contractor: Clerk-Spirit Tally (Grade 4 Registrar)]

[Terms: Exclusive Broadcast Rights granted to Channel #809-Tally.]

[Revenue Split: 100% Direct Sponsorships to Contractee / 100% Viewership Metrics to Contractor.]

[System Status Updated: You have achieved 'Independent Broadcast Contractor' status!]

[You have unlocked the System Feature: 'Direct Channel Management'.]

Whooooosh!

A golden glow enveloped the contract before it dissolved into golden dust, sinking into the back of Noël's right hand as a faint, gear-shaped mark.

Tally slumped onto the counter, completely drained of energy. "I sold my soul to a mortal... I'm going to be demoted to a broom spirit anyway..."

"You won't be demoted," Noël said, placing a hand on the wooden counter. "As long as you follow my instructions, Channel #809 will be the top-ranked stream in the eastern quadrant by the end of Arc 1."

Tally looked up weakly. "R-Really?"

"Now," Noël said, pointing toward the back room. "The Iron Chest."

Tally whimpered, turned around, and dragged a heavy, dust-covered iron box from beneath a pile of old scrolls.

The chest was bound by three heavy, rusted Aethelgard gear-locks, glowing with a faint, corrupted red rune.

[Item: Corrupted Aethelgard Iron Chest]

[Details: A sealed storage vessel from the 3rd Dynasty. Contains a locked administrative relic. Opening requires Tier 2 Lockpicking or a System Audit Key.]

Gideon stepped forward, examining the red runes. "It's locked by ancient Aethelgard code. Even if you forced him to give it to you, you can't open it without a Tier 2 Specialist."

Noël didn't answer.

He activated his Gyre Eye.

His left pupil turned a deep, glowing violet. Instantly, the corrupted red runes dissolved into structural conduit lines before his vision. He saw the three primary stress points where the internal gear teeth had misaligned four thousand years ago.

He reached out with his thumb, index, and middle fingers, placing them on three precise points on the chest's iron frame.

He applied pressure with his fingertips and twisted counter-clockwise.

Kack. Kack. Kaaaaack!

The ancient red runes flickered twice and shattered into harmless red sparks. The heavy iron lid popped open with a hiss as compressed air escaped.

Gideon's jaw dropped. "How... how did you just do that with your bare hands?!"

Inside the velvet-lined chest lay a single, gleaming silver pocket watch attached to a heavy gold chain. The hands of the watch were moving backward at an unnatural speed.

[Item Discovered: 'Chronometer of the Unseen Clerk' (Tier 1 Relic - Low Grade)]

[Effect: Allows the user to delay local System Scans by 3 seconds once per scenario. Reduces mental burden from timeline bleed-through by 5%.]

[Current Fractures: 11 / 60]

A cool, soothing sensation washed over Noël's forehead, easing the dull, thumping ache in the back of his brain.

It worked.

A soul-anchor relic. It wasn't enough to permanently freeze his Mnemonic Ledger, but reducing the mental bleed-through by 5% gave him crucial breathing room.

"N-Noël..." Tally squeaked, holding its head. "I... I just received an urgent System Ping from the Spire."

Noël picked up the silver pocket watch and slipped it into his coat pocket. "What is it?"

Tally's face grew pale as it stared at a floating blue memo screen.

"Main Scenario #8... it wasn't supposed to start for twenty-four hours," Tally whispered, trembling. "But the regional Administrator just forced an early override. The scenario has been altered!"

Tiiiing!

A deafening, siren-like chime echoed across the entire Sector Three Sanctuary.

[Emergency Alert!]

[Main Trial #8: 'The Sea of Hungry Mirrors' has been forcefully advanced!]

[Difficulty: Tier 1: Extreme]

[All entrants inside Sector Three Sanctuary are being forcibly partitioned into Spatial Mirror Instances!]

[Time Remaining until Spatial Collapse: 00:05]

The neon-lit alleyway outside the shop began to warp and twist like melting glass.

Gideon drew his rapier, his face hardening. "Noël! The floor is disappearing!"

Noël closed his left eye and opened his mouth calmly.

"Tally."

"Y-Yes, boss?!" Tally squeaked in terror.

"Start the broadcast."
