Candor’s threat brought Cale to a pause for a moment but then he began speaking not long after.

“So your plan to ensure my cooperation is to threaten to inflict more of the same kind of pain that I have already suffered. That's your bright idea?”

Cale scoffed, saying to Candor with derision dripping with every word uttered.

“Lady, I don’t know who you are but you don’t seem to be cut out for this kind of work. Why don’t you bring back the other lady who was in charge… she seemed to be more fun to hang out with. You’re just dry. What even happened to her in the first place?”

Here it was… finally Cale had his aim, the entire reason he had been talking to Candor all this while. That was to find out what had happened to Selene.

Cale wanted to know this but he couldn’t very well come out directly and asked could he? No that would’ve been too suspicious and might make the others cautious. So Cale had come up with this round about way of asking about Selene.

But Cale didn’t release them immediately; he waited for most of the guards to be taken care of before using them. This was a risky move, and Cale knew it, but he wanted to make sure that his secret was kept safe at all costs by ensuring all the guards were either taken out or controlled. Now there was a host of them—enough to handle a lot of opponents at the same time.
