I have to help them!Broken memories swirled around in her head. She looked into one and knew just how to help. She threw on a cloak and stepped quietly through the door and into the corridor. She steadied herself. This was her moment. There was no time to waste. She subconsciously knew her way through the building, servants bowing and parting for her to pass.It still felt like an unclear dream, the voice shouting in her head to go back to sleep getting louder and louder.“Mother?” a voice called from behind. “You should still be in bed.”She knew the person who spoke before she turned. It was him. Voyne. My son. Our son, the voice said now.She shook her head violently.“Mother, are you alright?” His voice was heavy with worry. “You shouldn’t have stood up yet.” He made a motion to touch her.How should I deal with this? she thought to herself.“Don’t—don’t you dare touch me,” she said, trying to fake the confidence and authority she had seen Mother show in her dream.Stop this. Luthen was busy somewhere digging in books and Somen was out managing the camp. Only Kane was listening to her."Even the followers have quieted their movements. We are slowly drawn to the endgame." Kane said. They both had been strategizing for the better part of a day."I think it's time we rescued those two." Lyann said. "We'll need every h

"You'll find me more formidable than you imagined, Saintess." Mother grinned, pleased with herself. The blasts from the Saintess’s hands pierced the vacuum of the mind scape, burning white-hot with the calm fury of the Saintess. But none reached their mark. She was beginning to lose her cool.Mother tilted her head, eyes narrowing, her wicked grin never leaving her face. “For someone so old, you so foolishly thought that your self-righteousness would grant you strength. But your days are long gone and all your power is restricted to this place.”"I suppose I should thank you." Mother continued, ascending as she talked. "You have given me the advantage." A lot of the soul energy the Saintess had fired congregated around Mother. A flick of her finger was all she needed to fire them in the opposite direction.Drawing on the power of the Relic once more, the Saintess constructed a barrier that protected her from the blast. Her face was tight and pensive."It's time you stop holding on to t

Reneé stepped forward, her voice trembling but firm. “I would stand with you. Let me lend what strength I have.”"Don't worry, Reneé. We got this." Luthen said."You don't understand. You can't tell we not to fight with you. You have no idea what I have been through. Plus you trashed my home. I have nowhere to go to. I am not asking.""We can't involve you in this. The people we are dealing with are strong and dangerous." Somen explained."Sounds like you are calling me weak." Reneé said."Yes. Exactly what he meant." Lyann interjected. "At the level you are what can you hope to do?""I brought Intel, I told you about them!""We know and that's why you are still breathing." The shock on Reneé's face was incentive enough for Lyann to keep going. " Even if we fully trusted you-we don't- you aren't even Awakened! Just realize your weakness already. Go home. We are not asking."Reneé's lip trembled and she left in a hurry.“She was going to die,” Lyann said defensively when she sensed eve

"Oh. She is-sorry, was-Voyne's secretary.""That explains the energy tagging her." Kane said. "How is she here?""She came looking for us. Said she had something to tell us. She's done with him.""That's quite convenient." Lyann scoffed."I know you don't trust me but I didn't know what I was getting into! I just wanted to switch jobs for a pay raise. If I had known the job was to be a secretary to a homicidal maniac, you think I would have agreed?!" Reneé breathed angrily.Nice. She stood up for herself. Luthen could not help but be impressed."Then why come to us?" Lyann was unfazed. She was a master criminal and had dealt many times with people claiming to switch allegiancs only to be exposed as spies. She could barely turn back to see Luthen.‎When she did, He looked every bit as scary as her imagination. The way the dark forest seemed to bend around him, the blood dripping from his hands, his cold, harsh voice.‎She tried to control her fear, to still her body. Yet she buckled as Luthen’s voice pierced into her like a blade of ice.‎“I—I’m not spying,” she stammered finally.‎She does look okay. Luthen thought.‎"I really hate being watched. But I'll excuse you this once because I know you are no threat. If you want to stay in the camp, follow me." He turned and went into the camp.‎In her eyes, he went from being the fierce demon in her imagination to just another young man looking burdened.‎Well, he was carrying something so he was technically burdened. Traps in one hand and some dead small animals in the other, their blood staining his hands. The dripping blood did not help her impression of him.‎She swore she could almost see horns growing from his head.‎"What is your name?
