Chapter 1
Chapter One: Genesis.
Such a bother. he thought.
Though Voyne had spared no expense in making his plane as comfortable as possible, the flight from Dryne to Osyna was a very long one and he was starting to get bored. Ordinarily, he would have taken the flight in smaller segments, stopping in different nations for tours or to visit his manic followers. But, he just could not delay the United Noble’s summons, not if he wanted everything to go according to plan.
“How are we doing, Viven?” he asked while reclining on a chair, directing his question to a red cloaked figure with a seven pointed star on her chest.
The eyes of the figure went unfocused, as if viewing another image. “We are right on schedule, sir.” She said after a minute. She fixed her gaze on him, worry clouding her face.“How are we going to convince them they are real? How do we prove that they are dangerous?”
He smirked. Even though she had seen it before, it always chilled her. His smirk seemed like one of an all-knowing god looking down on ignorant, mere mortals. She wasn’t too far off course. He wasn’t a god though. “That is not a problem.” he said, waving his hand dismissively. He settled back in his chair confidently.Nothing could go wrong.
He would finally be reunited with Mother after all this while.
And then all would be one.
*******Luthen was a solitary figure. He thought of himself as peculiar amidst the mundane. The diamond among rocks.
The world would stop for him, he thought. He remained separate, different from the ordinary.
But no, this wasn’t pride. More like a quiet certainty—a heaviness in his chest that whispered he was meant for more. A part of something greater. A chosen group.
Special.
It was deep, the conviction. Coursed through him like his own blood.
Probably, subconsciously, he bore the weight of destiny.
Maybe–
“Good morning. I would like two chocolate ice creams with two scoops each” A girl interrupted his thought train.
He sighed. Destiny would have to wait. He adjusted his apron and cap.
“Coming up!”
“Here’s your order.”
“Thank you.”
The girl left the shop and handed one of the ice creams to a guy and they walked off together, holding hands. They were mostly likely on a date.
Luthen had no close friends. Except Maron.
When anyone except for him had tried to get him to hang out, he always refused. Maron could be considered his best friend.
Well, he had only one friend really.
Speaking of which, Maron and I need to go get those cards soon.*******
He got home from his part-time job at an ice-cream shop and paused. It was ironic that though he considered himself above others, he still was an ordinary ice cream shop attendant.
More like really important part-time worker. He thought again.
He opened the door, and his little sister poked her head from a room to see who it was. Spotting him, she scurried back inside.
Almost immediately, a voice followed from the hallway.
“Luthen?” It called.
“Evening mum.” He replied. He didn't wait for anything else. Trudging up the stairs, he collapsed onto his bed, fully clothed. So tired. He got on his bed and slept through the evening, missing dinner. ******* Meanwhile, Voyne’s plane touched the tarmac. He descended the plane’s stairs, followed by Renée, his personal assistant and the woman he had called Viven. At the bottom of the stairs waiting were more people with hooded cloaks similar in design to Viven’s-except Viven’s was red. “Welcome, Archbishop.” said the lead figure of the group in a female voice. “Welcome to Osyna.” Renée was startled. To think that the ‘religion’ founded by Voyne – The Church of the Emancipation also known as the Soul Church – could have followers where sentiment against the Church was strong was incredible. She had assumed they were headed to a hotel. The city of Osyna had been particularly vocal about their opposition to the church. The United Nobles deciding to hold his trial here was basically condemning him. Yet, Voyne didn’t seem perturbed.
I have been his assistant this long yet there is much I still do not know.Voyne was definitely an enigma. “Your journey was long and you must rest for tomorrow, First Priest.” continued the lady, addressing Voyne. “Come my lord, we have made arrangements.” Renée wasn’t into any of the religious rubbish. She definitely did not feel comfortable staying with Voyne’s overly enthusiastic fan group. “Voyne– ” She began. “You will address the Archbishop properly, woman!!” A cloak raised its hood and addressed her in a manly, brutish voice. Their leader did not say anything but looked at her coldly. Viven emanated an angry aura. Voyne smirked again. That smirk. He is enjoying this. She looked round and realized that she could not win. There was bound to be someone here with an Ability, probably something very unpleasant. Voyne had a knack for gathering those kinds of people to himself. Gathering her composure, she started again.“Your Holiness, May I be excused to a hotel?”
“No, you may not.” Replied the same brutish male “Arrangements have been made– ” he cut off. A look. Voyne looked at him with a smile. However, the cloaked brute did not reciprocate. Instead, the fear written on his face was obvious. Tension rose, so thick it laid heavily on the skin. “I believe she did not address you.” “I am sorry, Archbishop. I–”The man barely choked the words out before he was interrupted.“Renée will stay where she likes tonight. The Church tolerates others.”
Renée decided to just take the win, though the word 'others' left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Kind of sounded like trashThe Soul Church was infamous for its radical beliefs. They emphasized on rooting out an evil they termed ‘Shards’ who were supposed to be a group of humans that were the reincarnations of the Seven Primordial Evils. So their ‘god’ decided to send – of all people – Voyne to root them out.
That’s the ‘reason’ Voyne formed The Church and gathered together those with Abilities.Gathering Ability users was sure to attract some attention. Worse still, he had a preference for Soul Aspect Abilities, the rarest known ability type. The United Nobles, the umbrella organization of the Nobles, the rulers of various nations, were especially suspicious of such activity. So, they summoned him to explain himself. If he hadn’t shown up, they would have labeled The Church a terrorist cult and exterminated it. It would be hard for him to go along with his plan with the entire world coming for his head.
It all sounded like a load of nonsense to Renée – the Shards, gods, Voyne. But she knew Voyne was hiding something sinister.
It is always a different angle with him. I wonder if I have to quit this job.She shook her uneasiness off and left.Shaking the thought off, she turned and walked away.Expand

Water rocked the ship slowly, like a mother singing its child to sleep. Lyann’s crew scambered around the ship, performing one task or another, happy to be back on the ship. But not everyone was happy. Some for instance were a little seasick."I know we are desperate," Somen started as he emerged from below the deck. But I didn’t know we were desperate enough to look for a deserted, long-forgotten island, emerging from the sea at a point that we don't know and that may or may not be real. How do we even know if it's the one?"'I'll know when I see it." Reese countered."Which is when exactly? Roaming the oceans for 50 years isn't my dream life." He moaned."If we are alive." Lyann added unhelpfully, emerging from the bridge, holding some scrolled up paper.Somen wasn't watching her since he went to vomit into the sea. "Can't take much more of this."She unfolded her scrolled up paper, which turned out to be a map. It was quite old by the looks of it."I thought you said you didn't kno

Broken: Shard's Tales Chapter Seventy-Seven: Departure
The High Council chamber was sounding more alive than normalSix Archdukes filled the vaulted hall with overlapping opinions and protests, their voices rising in sharp waves that echoed throughout the room. “This is unbelievable!” Duke Orrbi slammed his palm flat against the table. “The riots are spreading, the people are restless, and yet you tell us to stop the search? To stop the search is to hand the realm over to chaos! We should intensify it instead.”That was what Revner thought too. Infact, that was what everyone else thought, which was why they murmured agreement. Even Klare the only dissenter here, would normally agree with Orrbi. So why was she telling them to call of the search? I didn't make any sense. To make things worse, she was in no mood for explanation. “Chaos has already taken hold,” Manning retorted. “The Equalists stir rebellion in the streets while Voyne and the Church move towards a goal. We are trapped between a rock and a hard place.”Klare sat at the head

Broken: Shard's Tales Chapter Seventy-Six: Frustration, Anger, Self-Hate.
Luthen stood some distance away from Sophie’s house, sufficiently concealed in the shadows yet observing the commotion he had caused."Find him!" came an authoritative voice. "He couldn't have gone far! By Order of the High Council!"He saw soldiers scurry in different directions, some entering the building to support those already there, others surrounding the house and searching every nook and cranny. He wished he could tell them it was of no use.*******"I swear I saw him!" A solider tried to explain to his captain and his fellow colleagues. Their faces were the epitome of disbelief."He was real like you and I!""He could have teleported!" One of the more tactless soldiers replied him. The rest looked at him like he was stupid. However, the serious face of his captain bore a semblance of anger. The tactless solider whitened as he realized his mistake. He had indirectly insulted his superior."I am sorry, Captain!" He quickly excused himself from the area. The captain had an Abil

"Maron?" "Hello, old friend." The voice was recognised by Luthen, even if it felt like ice was layered in. Not him again! "I would have preferred to watch the touching reunion, but, We'll be taking our leave first." Mother said, retreating to a corner of the room with her son. A blue circle glowed to life under their feet. It rose up slowly, encircling them. "Your orders, Mother?" asked Maron. "Give him a demonstration and don't expose yourself to them if you can. It isn't time yet." was the instruction he received. "Oh no. You aren't going yet!" Luthen outstretched his arm, his intent focusing on stopping the teleportation. The teleport circle had no option but to heed the Space Shard. It stopped ascending and begun to descend. "Stop him!" came Mother's shrill cry. Luthen knew he left himself exposed. Half of him was focused on keeping Mother here until the Great Seven would arrive. Maron stretched his arms towards the Circle too. His Ability had a part of the Space Aspect

Broken: Shard's Tales Chapter Seventy-Four: Expected.
Just before Luthen made his daring break in to Sophie’s Manor "We left her at the old site, the one underneath the temple. It would be too much trouble to bring her. Besides, she'll most likely die there anyways." Voyne said. Mother didn't immediately answer. She was busy with her drink. "How about-" She started before she cut herself off. A presence seemed to be searching the manor. It was a sophisticated intent. Definitely a Shard. Why was one here? "Which of them is protecting the room?" Voyne knew which group of people she was talking of. "Maron." He replied. "Interesting choice." Mother even smiled. "Continue." "Most of the personnel are assembled at the pickup point. Only our expendable members remain here." "Why?" "The Great Nobles are onto us and not just Klare. " Voyne said. "The Nobles? I wonder how frustrating this must be for Klare." Mother tried to pic

Damn the Order! She cursed again. She had heard too late about their plans from her spy network. When she confronted the Brother earlier, he must have known that it was too late for her to stop it. Not that the Brother could stop the riots from happening if he wanted to. He was not at the top of the Equalist pecking order, just a liaison between the Equalists and Klare. But she wanted to thank them at the same time!If the riots were occurring equally in all the regions, it would mean that no Great Noble could accuse any of being negligent when their own territory was destabilized. She quickly calmed herself down so she could take control of the situation as effectively as possible."Send a letter to the Great Nobles. The High Council must meet." This was her first statement after digesting the news. "As soon as possible.""Yes, Archduchess. " came Ayle's reply as she scurried to get it done. Now, Klare was walking to the Archives, where an emergency meeting of the Nobles was convene
