Meanwhile, in Jonelle and Reese’s barely hospitable ‘room’.

Reese twitched. Jonelle squeezed her mouth and looked into his seagreen eyes. He tried to offer an apologetic smile.

She really knew it would come to this. The boys and Lyann would be at each other’s throats before they could ask for help.

“I did tell you this sort of thing could happen.” She said.

“I did know Lyann could be this stubborn. I din’t expect Kane to be just as stubborn and both of them even used Supreme Techniques!”

“Well, it’s your fault. If you’ve listened to me earlier, we would never have gone to prison.”

“I thought it was a physical prison. No, they couldn’t leave things on easy mode. We just had to be trapped in a Spatial Maze. I didn’t expect this.” Reese said, rubbing his chin. “I really underestimated them. They really do have some info on us.”

“You thought that at the worst, your girlfriend-” She started.

“She is not my girlfriend…..yet.” He cut in.

His face came into the weak ray of light.Yet it was all that was needed for her to recognize him.Her eyes widened."Hello, Princess." he said."Are you going to kill me too?" She asked, her heart thumping. "They'll find you and-" "No, of course not. What makes you think so?""You killed those people at the mall and the hospital.""I didn't kill anyone at the mall.""So.....you did kill those at the hospital." She remained wary.He saved me before. But right now... he could just as easily end me.He sighed.Just when I think the past is behind me, the universe gives me a hard reminder. He turned to go. And then paused. "How is Sophie, Klare?"She swallowed. She didn't look up. Her fingers curled around the edge of her cloak. “She’s... she’s fine.” The words left her mouth in a whisper, hollow and barely convincing. “She’s fine.”“No, she’s not. I was there you, remember? I saw it all."Klare’s shoulders trembled. She took a step back, then sat abruptly on the steps behind her, as if

They were in her dreams. She came to. Reneé’s eyes fluttered open to the stronger sunlight seeping through the translucent curtains. Her head pounded with pain. She winced against the soft grinding of rough rope around her wrists – bound tightly, wrists chafing, ankles aching from hours of strain. She was slumped in a wooden chair at the center of his room. Two figures stood before her: the woman who bore a young woman's face but something wicked in her eyes, and the man called Voyne, his cruel gaze split by a cruel grin. They were here in reality too. Mother and Son."Pathetic little lamb, it's been quite a while." She leaned close to Reneé. "The Shards couldn't even do their job properly. Or did they see you for what you are?"Reneé remained quiet."Tell me, little spy, were you sent by your precious Shards to kill him?" Her tone was mocking. "They haven't succeeded yet and they sent you? I can't imagine that. Even they should know better.""You came on your own didn't you? And her

  • Chapter Sixty-Six: Rag.

The tension that had sparked at the campfire the night before still hung in the air, thicker now in the pale blue light of dawn. They had gathered again at Luthen's tent, their moods as gloomy as the dawning morning.“You’re being reckless,” Kane said, his arms folded across his chest, his breath fogging in the cold air. “She'd do the same for any of us,” Luthen shot back, his voice sharp. “She’s one of us. Sophie trusted us. She warned us not to go to the Eye—and we’re just going to ignore her?”“She’s compromised!” Lyann gestures in frustration “Mother’s inside her. You felt the shift. We all did. We can’t afford to assume Sophie’s still in control.”Luthen turned toward Jonelle and Reese, who stood slightly apart from the fire, silent since dawn.“She just saved your lives,” he said, pointing to them. “She freed you. Led them here. Risked herself to help you. Is that what a pawn of Mother would do?”“It could be a trap,” Somen in an attempt to evoke reason “Think, Luthen. If Soph

"Seems we were too careless with our speeds. We might have broken something." A familiar voice said.Of course! Why didn't I think it was them?! Luthen shouted in his head.Shadows loomed beyond the haze of disturbed earth. The crew were visibly beginning to sweat in the cold night. The only ones who remained at ease were the Shards, though they had their eyes focused on the sight ahead of them. The dust finally began to settle. Then the two figures became visible—one with broad shoulders and calm, focused seagreen eyes that gleamed like polished glass; the other, bold yet graceful.“Reese?” Lyann’s voice broke the tension."I am right here." Jonelle twisted her mouth when no one asked about her.A collective wave of relief spread through the camp."It's not them""We are safe!""I was scared that death."Somen let out a deep sigh. “Guess it’s not the Apostates.” He had been itching for some action.Reese dusted his shoulder with two fingers. “Sorry for the entrance,” he said. “I gues

  • Chapter Sixty- Three: Risen From The Ashes.

The doors of the Great Hall swung open quite violently. Six of the Great Nobles were seated in a Circle, thought there was a conspicuously empty seventh seat. "I lead the High Council, I lead the Circle," she said in regal anger as she walked through the roor and approached the Council. "And yet you hold a High Council meeting without me in my territory?" Her fury resonated through the hall though she didn't lose her noble bearing. "Calm down, Klare." was Revner's way of diffusing the situation. She didn't spare him a look. Her gaze was fixed on the others. They did not waver from her gaze. She activated her empath Ability."You used to lead the Circle and the High Council." Archduke Orrbi said. The only emotions she could feel from nearly every single one were either contempt, pity or disdain. Nearly everyone except Revner. "That's why you had me declared 'mentally incapable' and unfit to rule?" "Well, clearly losing your friend made you lose your sense of judgement and touched y
