Chapter 2: Instigator class

ERROR! THE SYSTEM IS BEING CORRUPTED!

Ethan froze. His vision blurred as the screen in front of him shuddered violently. Numbers, bars, and words flickered like broken neon.

RESISTING CORRUPTION…

He clenched his fists. Something was trying to rewrite his system, something he couldn't control.

RESISTANCE FAILED.

CORRUPTION: 20% → 40% → 70% → 85% → 95% → 100%

The digits blinked faster, almost mocking him. His stomach twisted with a mix of anticipation and unease. He didn't panic. That wasn't his style.

CORRUPTED SYSTEM COMPLETED!

A new window opened before him, edges glowing faintly. Ethan blinked and leaned closer.

Name: Ethan Jones

Title: Villain: The Grand Instigator

Class: Instigator

Level: 1

HP: 100/100

MP: 50/50

He swallowed. Villain? Instigator? The words hit him like ice water.

"Wasn't that horned cat told us to be Heroes?" He asked himself.

Skills flashed on the screen in a neat column.

Skills:

WHISPERED PROVOCATION (E) Subtly provoke a target, increasing hostility toward another.

SEED OF DISCORD (E) Plant lingering doubt, slightly reducing trust between two targets.

FALSE NARRATIVE (E) Fabricate or distort information, obscuring the truth.

CHAIN REACTION (E) Intensify ongoing conflict, escalating emotions and aggression.

SMOKESCREEN TRUTH (E) Conceal your involvement in events.

READ THE ROOM (E) Detect hidden tension, rivalry, or exploitable emotions.

PANIC SPREAD (E) Induce unease, increasing fear and disorganization.

All his skills are labeled growth-type.

He leaned back and let a slow, crooked smile spread across his face. "So I'm the guy causing chaos while everyone else plays the hero... huh?~" He rubbed his temples. "Boredom just leveled up. This is.... interesting."

A sharp DINGGGG cut through the silence.

A hologram shimmered to life, a small horned cat with a black, glitching body. Its pixels shifted and fractured, stuttering like a corrupted video feed.

"Due to unknown interference, Player Ethan's system quest will differ from the others." it stammered, voice skipping. "The penalty for failing each quest is death."

Ethan's grin faltered for a fraction of a second. Death? That was serious! Not some tutorial threat, not a symbolic warning. This is real and permanent. He was inwardly shaken but he's not scared.

"Well..." he said, shrugging, "guess boredom just got dangerous. Well, at least it won't be boring..."

Another DINGGGG, and the hologram convulsed with static.

"You will be transported into the Players Lobby with all who survived."

White light swallowed him whole. It burned, warmed, and blinded him at once. When his vision cleared, the space had changed.

The lobby stretched endlessly above and around him. Hundreds of thousands of people stood silently, drenched in blood. Some barely had a smear; others looked like walking battlefields. Faces reflected relief, shock, pride, emptiness.

Ethan's gaze caught a young man clutching his side, groaning. A woman knelt beside him, pressing a hand to his wound. The contrast between triumph and suffering struck him. Raw, unfiltered humanity.

The horned cat appeared again, glitching violently.

"CONGRATULATIONS NEW HEROES!" its voice warped, high-pitched at the end. "MY TIME HAS COME TO AN END AND I WILL NOW PASS MY BURDEN TO YOU. TO PROTECT YOUR WORLD IS NOW UP TO YOU."

Ethan arched an eyebrow. Protect the world? Not his problem. Heroes could save the day. He had other plans.

The hologram's voice stuttered, fragmented, then finished with a final, static-laden warning.

"WHEN YOU RETURN TO EARTH IN ONE MONTH MONSTERS YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN WILL INVADE. KILL THEM AND GROW STRONG. THE DIMENSIONAL RIFT WILL WIDEN. IF HUMANITY FAILS IT CEASES TO EXIST."

Then it dissolved into smoke, leaving only silence.

Ethan looked around. The other survivors had received classic hero systems: Warrior, Mage, Archer, Berserker, Knight, every archetype imaginable. Everyone had tools to save their world.

And then there was him. Instigator, without a doubt a villain class and chaos incarnate itself.

He read the skill descriptions again, this time imagining possibilities.

Whispered Provocation, Seed of Discord, Chain Reaction. He could make rivals fight over nothing, manipulate a guild without leaving a trace, incite panic among heroes. Each skill was a brushstroke in a canvas of chaos.

Ethan smirked. He didn't need brute strength or flashy magic. He had influence, subtlety, and control. A hundred battles could be won without touching a weapon.

"Let's see how far I can push this~" he muttered, eyes scanning the lobby. Hundreds of thousands of players, all carrying power, hope, fear. One wrong move, one whispered word, and the perfect chain reaction could begin.

For the first time, boredom felt like a distant memory.

He tapped a few commands, testing the interface. Read the Room. The system highlighted subtle tension between two nearby players, one a swordsman, the other an archer. Tiny flickers of irritation, suspicion, nothing they noticed themselves. Perfect.

A grin tugged at his lips. Chaos wasn't just a skill. It was art.

And Ethan intended to paint a masterpiece.

With this, an oddball class appeared. A broken class in a broken user.

It immediately irritated me.The empty space in front of me began to distort. Light bent unnaturally, like heat rising from asphalt. Then a figure slowly revealed himself.A tall blonde man with a buzz cut stepped forward. Broad shoulders. Thick neck. A body that looked built for breaking bones. His posture was relaxed, but there was nothing careless about him."Don't worry." he said after finishing his laughter, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye. "I'm not here to fight.""Then who are you?" I asked flatly."I was patrolling the vicinity when I suddenly felt something… watching me." His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at me. Why don't you rest a bit longer?" I asked gently. She looked up and smiled faintly, rubbing her eyes. "I… I guess I could. Every word was carefully measured. Calm. Caring. Trust-building.She nodded, reassured. I allowed a small smile to creep onto my face, inwardly noting the subtle cues: the way her shoulders relaxed, the slight upward curve of her lips. Trust gained. Emotional attachment strengthened. She hesitated for a moment. "Yes. I got scouted yesterd
