Josias gives Romualdo a gaze of astonishment. He had no intention of asking just in the construction site, but the opportunity came and he would not refuse. He just didn't expect to get this easy. Was Everaldo in action again?
“Are you sure, sir? Here it looks like work done with care. I don't have a lot of construction experience; at most I helped as Uélton is doing.”
Romualdo analyzes Josias's physical constitution from him. Because he was shirtless, it became easier. “You don't look like a fragile boy to me. You're not muscular, but I see a little strength in your arms and shoulders.”
“I was never an idle person, or a sedentary person, as they say,” Josias explains, with a proud smile.
“Then there is no more talk!” Romualdo sentences, “If you really want to, come tomorrow to start. And what you don't know how to do, we'll teach you. What do you say?”
What to say? Of course, Josias would not refuse! “I accept, Seu Romualdo.”
“Smart boy, you already got my name.” Romualdo smiles widely. The two shake hands to seal the deal. “If you want, you can start tomorrow. And I suggest that you come with another more suitable outfit.”
Josias turns red just to remember. “This will not be possible, Seu Romualdo.”
Romualdo frowns. “Huh, why not? You don't plan on coming in pajamas, do you? I can even pass up the fact that you are shirtless because of the heat, but I would wear these pants in cold weather.”
“It's just that I'm in such a critical situation that this outfit is all I have left.” Josias decides to explain without going into too much detail, “I was forced, so to speak, to leave the house like that.”
Romualdo puts his hand on his chin. “Did you run away for doing some illegal stuff, boy?”
Josias needed to deal with that question. Unfortunately, that's what people think. It is rare to find a young man who is not doing something wrong with each passing year.
Josias only had to deny it. “No, I swear. If I was messing with the wrong thing, I wouldn't be looking for some honest occupation right now.”
Romualdo smiles again and relieves himself. Smart answer. The boy doesn't sleep on the spot.
“Tomorrow, at eight in the morning. Can I know your name?”
“Josias Rocha.” Josias pronounces his name as if he were an authority.
After final greetings, Josias returns to Teodoro's building, almost jumping with happiness. When he passes a house whose radio played “Working My Way Back to You”, by The Spinners, he even dances in the middle of the main street.
Upon entering the reception, Teodoro finds the boy all smiling. “Don't tell me that you found something to do in this place. No, wait! Did you find the girl, find out where she lives?”
Josias burst out laughing. “Not yet, Seu Teodoro, but I found what I was looking for! I managed to get some occupation! Now I'm going to pay for the little room, you can rest easy.”
Teodoro is already fond of Josias enough to go out from behind the counter to embrace the boy. Josias became for him like a nephew. When the two leave, he says, “Don't worry about rent. Next month we’ll see that. When you receive your first payment, focus on buying things for yourself.”
“He told me to go in another outfit.” Josias starts to laugh, “But it seems that these sweatpants will be used. I am not going to use new pants to move cement.”
Teodoro raises an eyebrow. “Cement? Are you going to work at a construction site?”
“Yeah,” Josias quickly adds, “and you can undo that face of worry, Seu Teodoro. I am no weakling, despite my age. I’ve helped you a few times, it’s not that difficult. And Seu Romualdo seems to me to be good people, what I don't know he teaches me.”
“I hope so. I know Romualdo, he is well requested in the locality for construction. Do you know the bathrooms here? He did it. If I had met him before, I would have him build the entire building.”
Josias smiles in agreement. He realized that the bathroom was built more carefully than the rest of the building. It was probably not Romualdo who built those houses on the main street.
After that, Josias went to his room, satisfied and thanking God mentally for another stage of his life resolved. Now it was time to start work, save money and use it wisely. Josias could even make a list of priorities, but he had no notebook or pen.

Chapter 3336 It Wasn’t Him
Out by the pool of the Rocha Mansion, Melissa and Dora stood side by side at the water’s edge. The still blue surface reflected the morning light — eerily calm, untouched since the day Simeon had last swum there.“I still can’t get used to it,” Dora said softly.“I wish I could be sure he’d swim here again someday,” Melissa murmured. “But now...”“Whatever God wills,” Dora whispered, her voice trembling. “I’m more worried about your brother storming out like that.”“I just hope Will doesn’t do anything that makes things worse,” Melissa said.At that moment, Hector appeared by the veranda, clearing his throat politely. “Ahem... Old Madam Campos?”Dora turned to him. “Yes, Hector?”“Mrs. Freire is on the phone.”“Flávia?” Melissa asked. He smiled faintly. “No, Mrs. Rocha... your daughter, Miss Caroline, now Mrs. Freire.”A bright smile broke across both women’s faces. Chapter 3335 Did It on Impulse?
Josias, in his office at Rocha Constructions, was already gripping his phone with barely contained fury. He had just learned who the car belonged to, and it took all his self-control not to curse out loud while speaking to Melissa on the other end of the line.“My dear... how outrageous...” he growled. In her husband’s study back at the Rocha Mansion, Melissa sighed, her voice steady but weary. “I know, darling.”“This means Dylan was right,” Josias said. “The hit-and-run was deliberate.”“From the security footage, it looks impulsive,” she replied.“So Jake Cogo just happened to run into your parents on the street and decided to floor the gas pedal?”“That’s what it looks like. Still, the fact that he fled the scene makes it worse.”“I hope Dylan’s taking action,” Josias muttered.“Maybe we should reach out to Damascene Lawyers,” Melissa suggested.Josias’s lips curled into a wide, predatory smile as he imagined the Cogo family being torn apart piece by piece.******At Rocha Hotel,
Chapter 3334 The Owner of the Car
At Rocha Constructions, Caio sat alone in his office, staring at his phone. After a few seconds of hesitation, he scrolled through his contacts and tapped his wife’s name.“I hope she’s not too busy,” he murmured. On the other end, in her office of Damascene Lawyers, Brigitte was reviewing a prenuptial agreement for one of her clients when her phone began to ring. She smiled as soon as she saw who it was.On the screen, under the contact name “Hunk Hubby”, was a photo of Caio sprawled on their bed: apparently naked, though artfully cropped.“If anyone ever sees my phone...” she murmured with a wicked grin, and then answered. “Hello, hunk hubby?”Caio’s laugh came softly through the line. “What kind of name is that, sweetheart?”“Your new nickname, from today on,” she teased.“Sounds like you’re in a good mood,” he said.“I do my best to keep you smiling,” she replied, her tone turning serious. “So? Any news?”Caio hesitated. “Grandpa is in a coma.”“Oh, darling,” she whispered, her vo
Chapter 3333 It Had to Be Them!
In the quiet study of the Rocha Mansion, Dylan sat before the computer, his expression stern and focused, while Melissa and Dora stood behind him, their bodies tense, anticipation and dread mingling in the air.“Feeling nervous?” Dylan asked without looking back, his fingers gliding over the keyboard.“Very,” Dora confessed, her voice trembling. “I have the strangest feeling we’re going to recognize the driver.”“Be brave, Mother,” Melissa murmured, placing a hand on her arm.Dylan opened his inbox and clicked on the attached file.A video filled the screen: a black Ford speeding through the Ibrahim Square intersection, not at a reckless pace, but fast enough to betray distraction.Dora turned away, eyes squeezed shut, unwilling to witness what she knew was coming. The car struck Simeon with a sharp thud, then swerved violently, tires screeching on asphalt before vanishing from the frame.Dylan froze the footage just as the license plate came into view.Melissa leaned forward, her fac
Chapter 3332 Do We Know the Driver Who Fled?
At General Hospital, William stood by the windowpane of his father’s room, watching Simeon lying peacefully on the bed, his frail body resting after the long surgery. The rhythmic hum of medical machines filled the air, an unsettling reminder that his father’s life was hanging by a thread.Beside him, Dr. Matthew Hogan looked uneasy, his expression revealing what his words had yet to convey.“You’re going to pull through, old man,” William whispered, his voice catching slightly. Then, turning to the doctor, he asked, “What are his chances, Dr. Hogan?”Matthew hesitated. Though years of practice had hardened him to the sight of suffering, he still found moments like this unbearable. “Mr. Campos... I’m not quite sure how to tell you this.”“Tell me,” William pressed. “I’d rather hear the brutal truth.”The doctor took a slow breath. “Your father should’ve woken up by now. There’s no longer any sign of internal bleeding or damage to vital organs.”William’s eyes darkened. “Then why isn’t
Chapter 3331 João Paulo on the Scene
Dylan stood on the busy street where the hit-and-run had taken place. Cars continued to rush past, horns blaring, as if nothing had happened. He frowned deeply, surveying the area. No police tape. No cones. No sense of order.“Argh... no one even bothered to block off the area,” he muttered under his breath.“Ah, Inspector Amoreira,” came a familiar voice from behind him. João Paulo approached with his usual half-smile. “I came to gather some details for tomorrow’s column.”“Good evening, Mr. Queiroz,” Dylan greeted him with a weary nod. “Unfortunately, as you can see, the street wasn’t isolated.”João Paulo took out his phone, ready to type notes. “What do we know so far?”Dylan looked around, his eyes scanning the pavement where faint traces of blood had already been washed away by passing rain. “Mrs. Campos, according to her grandson Caio Campos, said the driver fled the scene. Witnesses mentioned a black car.”João Paulo’s brow arched with mischief. “A black car, huh? Those never
