Ch.11 - The Patriarch of the Shu Family, Shu Fang Yun

Shu Xiang did not know where his father had gone. After all, he was barely even considered a member of the Shu Family, so he was not given information like that.

However, as a renowned martial artist who had already reached the Saint level, his father must have often left the family residence, whether to hunt or to handle various matters concerning the Shu Family's relations with other organizations.

When Shu Xiang saw the residence gates from a distance, he could see a large crowd gathered there. There were Shu Family soldiers, servants, and members of the main family, such as Wei An and her two children.

Among them, Shu Xiang also noticed the most conspicuous figure—a tall, muscular, middle-aged man, the Shu Family's External Elder, Yan Jiang.

Yan Jiang had once helped the current Patriarch ascend to the position and was subsequently appointed as an External Elder. He was an Advanced-level martial artist who had reached the peak of the realm, only one step away from reaching the Saint level.

Yan Jiang had been assigned to train the eldest son of the Shu Family, Shu Ming, whom Shu Xiang had previously defeated with only a few moves.

When they saw Shu Xiang approaching, the crowd gave him unfriendly looks, and some even began to belittle him.

Wei An, Shu Ming, and Shu Lin stared at Shu Xiang with hatred, remembering the unpleasant incident that had happened to them not long ago. Wei An herself even looked somewhat afraid of Shu Xiang.

Shu Xiang normally never came out for things like this, so they were also quite surprised to see him here.

Hearing the people insult Shu Xiang, a mocking smile appeared on Shu Ming's face.

"Hm, you should just stay in your room. Your arrival is only making the air dirty." Shu Ming began mocking Shu Xiang as usual.

"Dirty? Well, you'd better not vomit again. It might ruin the view." Shu Xiang replied in a flat tone.

"Kgh!" Shu Ming's expression immediately changed, but he quickly returned to his mocking smile. Since the incident had not spread, he could still pretend nothing had happened. "You should say that to yourself. And try to remember how many times you vomited because I beat you. You'd better show some respect to your eldest brother."

"Huh, whatever. I don't care."

Shu Xiang simply ignored Shu Ming, making the man even angrier.

Everyone was bewildered. Normally, Shu Xiang would remain silent whenever he was insulted, but this time, he actually talked back. Even Shu Ming did not hit him as he usually did.

What had happened?

Shu Xiang stood calmly, ignoring all the gazes and whispers directed at him.

'Since I rarely saw him, my memories of my father have become extremely vague. I can't even remember what he looks like anymore. I even forgot his name.'

Shu Xiang smiled faintly.

"The Patriarch has arrived!"

The gatekeeper's loud voice rang out from outside.

Everyone immediately straightened up and stood in two rows, creating an empty path in the middle for the Patriarch's entourage.

Not long after, the Patriarch entered through the gates on horseback, accompanied by more than a dozen Shu Family soldiers.

The Patriarch of the Shu Family, Shu Fang Yun, was a middle-aged man with a stern face and a tall, muscular build. Standing at 185 centimeters tall, he exuded an intimidating aura.

Everyone immediately bowed while clasping their hands together and spoke in unison.

"Greetings, Patriarch!"

Shu Fang Yun nodded as he looked over all the members of the Shu Family, until his gaze stopped upon a young man he had not seen in many years—Shu Xiang.

The last time he had seen his son was when the boy was eight years old. Now, his son was sixteen.

Shu Xiang's face looked remarkably similar to his own when he was young. This made Shu Fang Yun narrow his eyes in discomfort. He felt disgusted that the face of a disgrace to the Shu Family could resemble his own.

Shu Fang Yun raised his hand, signaling everyone to stop.

He then dismounted and walked toward Shu Xiang, who was standing at the back of the crowd.

Everyone immediately moved aside to make way for him. Whispers could be heard throughout the crowd as they wondered about the Patriarch's actions.

Soon, Shu Fang Yun stood before Shu Xiang, who was still bowing with his hands clasped together.

Shu Xiang was about to greet him, but suddenly, Shu Fang Yun delivered a powerful punch to his abdomen.

Blood sprayed from Shu Xiang's mouth as he was sent flying. He rolled across the ground several times before finally coming to a stop.

The incident shocked everyone, but no one dared to question it.

Wei An, Shu Ming, and Shu Lin looked delighted, enjoying the sight of the person they hated being beaten—especially by the Patriarch himself.

"Heh."

Shu Fang Yun snorted. He was about to turn around and return to his horse, but he stopped when he saw Shu Xiang moving.

The young man struggled to stand despite the intense pain caused by the brutal blow he had received.

Shu Xiang finally stood upright, blood staining his mouth and dripping down to his chin.

"Thank you for the lesson, Father."

Shu Xiang smiled before clasping his hands together.
