Ch.7 - Bitter Drink

Cultivation in this world is about one's understanding and ability to control their Qi energy, rather than the amount of energy they possess.

Even so, the amount of energy is still extremely important. The higher the technique being used, the more energy it requires. Without sufficient energy, one would be unable to break through to a higher level.

Guard Shui died instantly from that single attack.

To make the evidence and the reason behind his actions seem more convincing, Shu Xiang used Guard Shui's own sword to stab himself, allowing the blade to remain lodged in his left shoulder while wearing a wide smile despite the excruciating pain.

"Kyaaa! D-Demon!"

Wei An, who had witnessed everything, felt her legs go weak before she finally collapsed, unable to support her own weight.

The Madam of the Shu Family trembled as she stared at Shu Xiang, who was covered in blood.

"A demon? Then how about you next? I'll kill you after I gouge out both of your eyes."

Shu Xiang walked toward Wei An, his entire body covered in blood.

Wei An, already overwhelmed by fear, finally fainted.

Of course, Shu Xiang had no intention of killing Wei An, at least not for now. Doing so would only create trouble for him.

'Hm, I can sense it now. Dark energy, even stronger than the energy in the slums.'

After Shu Xiang killed Guard Shui, the woman's corpse began releasing a powerful amount of dark energy.

Wei An, who had been terrified moments ago, was also emitting dark energy, although hers was considerably weaker.

Shu Xiang immediately absorbed all of the dark energy with a wave of his hand, storing it in his palm since he could not refine the energy in his current situation.

The guards soon began arriving after hearing Wei An's screams earlier.

"Help! Someone, help me!"

Shu Xiang immediately shouted, staggering forward with an expression of immense pain on his face.

"Young Master! What happened?"

The guards were shocked when they saw Shu Xiang covered in blood, especially with a sword embedded in his body. They were even more shocked when they saw Wei An and Guard Shui lying on the ground.

The guards could be executed if the culprit turned out to be an intruder who had infiltrated the estate.

"I was walking back after returning from the city when I suddenly saw Guard Shui attacking Madam Wei. I tried to stop her and managed to kill Guard Shui, but..."

After explaining everything according to his plan, Shu Xiang finally collapsed and fainted.

"Young Master!"

One of the guards caught Shu Xiang's body before he could hit the ground.

"Quickly, take Madam Wei and Young Master Xiang to the Medical Hall! Take Guard Shui's body there as well for examination!"

The leader of the guards immediately gave his orders.

"Yes, Chief!"

They immediately carried out the order.

Shu Xiang opened his eyes when the sunlight fell across his face through the gaps between the window panels.

He found himself lying on a bed, half-naked, with his shoulders and chest covered in bandages.

Shu Xiang looked around. This was not his room.

Well, he had only been pretending to be unconscious earlier, and now he knew that he was in the Medical Hall.

"Oh, you're awake?"

An old man walked in carrying a cup of warm herbal medicine. He was Doctor Han, the best physician in the Shu Family Estate. He was the one who had treated Shu Xiang's wounds.

Shu Xiang no longer felt any pain in either of his shoulders. Only when he moved them too forcefully did he feel some discomfort. Doctor Han truly deserved to be called the best physician in the estate.

"Thank you for treating me, Doctor Han."

Shu Xiang sat up and moved to the edge of the bed.

"Drink this first. It will help you regain your strength faster."

Doctor Han handed him the cup of warm herbal medicine.

Just from its aroma, Shu Xiang could already tell that it was bitter.

Nevertheless, he gulped the entire drink down in one go.

His eyes blinked repeatedly, and his mouth twisted uncontrollably as he experienced an incredibly bitter taste.

'So... bitter..!'

Even Shu Xiang, who could remain indifferent to pain, was made to react like this simply because of a bitter drink.

This was the most bitter thing he had ever tasted.

"Hahaha, impressive. You really swallowed it all at once, and your reaction was quite calm as well."

Doctor Han laughed when he saw this. Honestly, he was quite pleased because, for the first time, someone had managed to drink his herbal medicine without an excessive reaction.

"Ahaha, well, it's for the sake of recovering faster."
