Ch.8 - Wei An's Night Mare

Doctor Han was known as a very kind and friendly person. He was always smiling and willing to help anyone, regardless of their identity or status.

Once, Shu Xiang had suffered rather serious injuries after falling while training on the hills. Several of his ribs and his right arm had been broken.

With Doctor Han's help, Shu Xiang had made a full recovery in just three weeks. Doctor Han's medical skills were already well known throughout the Shu Family.

Now, Shu Xiang was being treated by Doctor Han once again. After just one night, he no longer felt any pain from his injuries, although he was still forbidden from moving around too much.

At the moment, Doctor Han appeared as friendly as ever, one of the few people who did not look at Shu Xiang as if he were nothing more than useless trash.

He really was a good person.

That was what the old Shu Xiang would have thought.

But the current Shu Xiang was different.

Was he really that kind?

Because of his experiences in his previous life, Shu Xiang had become pessimistic toward everyone. He would never believe that the kindness someone showed him was completely genuine. There could always be another motive, something hidden behind that friendly face.

Whatever the case, in this life, Shu Xiang would never again be fooled by sweet words from other people.

"Can I go home now, Doctor Han?" Shu Xiang asked after drinking the bitter medicine Doctor Han had given him.

"Yes, but take this with you." Doctor Han handed him a small wooden jar. "Apply this medicine whenever your wounds reopen. You can also mix it into tea to help relieve the pain."

"Thank you, Doctor Han." Shu Xiang accepted it with a smile.

"Ah, right. How is Madam Wei?" Shu Xiang asked.

"She's fine. She wasn't injured, only fainted from shock. However, she's still unconscious."

"Oh, I see. Then I'll be leaving now."

Shu Xiang left shortly afterward.

Doctor Han watched his departing figure with a curious look in his eyes.

"Is it just my imagination? But he seems somewhat different today."

Doctor Han did not know Shu Xiang very well, so he did not think too much about it.

Whatever the reason for Shu Xiang's change in attitude, as long as he was still Shu Xiang and not someone else, there was no need for him to worry.

Everyone could change for their own reasons.

Including him.

Shu Ming and Shu Lin received news of what had happened the previous night that morning. They immediately hurried to the Medical Hall to check on their mother.

Shu Ming had also recovered from his injuries, so he could now move around freely.

When they arrived at the Medical Hall, they saw their mother lying on a bed, accompanied by several servants.

Wei An's expression was dazed, as though she had yet to fully regain consciousness. What had happened the previous night had truly traumatized her. She had never imagined that the boy she had always looked down on could do something like that.

"Mother!"

Shu Ming and Shu Lin immediately approached her.

"Shu Ming, Lin'er."

"Mother, what exactly happened? Is it true that Guard Shui attacked you?" Shu Ming asked.

Although he had already heard what had happened, he wanted to hear it directly from his mother.

"No! Guard Shui didn't attack me at all!"

Wei An shouted, startling Shu Ming and Shu Lin.

Wei An had already heard Shu Xiang's version of events. She had denied it and told the guards what had really happened. However, no one believed her. They assumed she had simply made everything up to frame Shu Xiang, considering how Wei An had always treated him.

"Mother, calm down. Here, have some water."

Shu Lin poured some water for her mother and helped her drink.

After calming down somewhat, Wei An clenched her fists.

"That child... that useless piece of trash! I'm certain he's someone else! He's not the person we've known all this time! He must have been possessed by a demon!"

Wei An could still vividly remember the sinister grin on Shu Xiang's face while the sword was still embedded in her body.

It sent shivers down her spine every time she remembered it.

"Mother, tell us slowly. We want to know what really happened," Shu Ming said.

Wei An then recounted everything from the beginning to the last thing she remembered before losing consciousness.

Even Shu Ming and Shu Lin found it difficult to believe after hearing her story. It sounded more like a nightmare Wei An had experienced while unconscious and mistaken for reality.

Although Shu Xiang had indeed seemed different lately, there was no way he could have gone that far... right?

But if their mother was telling the truth, had Shu Xiang really been possessed by a demon?

"That child must be killed! He has to die before he does something even worse!"

Wei An would never be able to feel at ease as long as Shu Xiang remained in the residence. She would continue having nightmares every night.

"Calm down, Mother. That's exactly what we've been planning all along. But it's very difficult because he almost never leaves the residence. Besides, Father will be returning tomorrow, so we have to be patient."

Shu Ming held his mother's hand, trying to calm her down.
