The smile on Dr. Frank's face dropped like someone who had just seen a phantom at the eerie hour of the night. His knee buckled under the weight of the cashier's confession.

Blake? It can't be!” He pondered, the possibilities of him paying such an amount is 0.001%

Very far from possible.

He whipped his face back to the cashier who had been observing his shocking expression on his face all along.

“I was just as surprised as you, sir. Just a few hours ago, he ran out of the hospital to raise funds for his granny but now he even paid for the exclusive ward.” The woman said with a genuine smile, her words hitting on Mr. Frank's nerves. The woman noticed the surprise on his face but the confusion that lingered beneath was what she couldn't read.

Mr. Frank's face narrowed. “Are you sure he was the one?" He pressed on, taking a brief tentative glance at Blake again and again.

The cashier nodded and turned the Payment machine to him, the screen met his confused gaze.

“Here sir, the confirmation is still evident.” She said,

Mr. Frank stared at the screen, reading every detail of it as if something would make sense. Of course it did but he didn't want to believe it.

He swallowed hard. “Alright... Alright.Thanks.” His voice was low, defeated.

He walked over to Blade who couldn't stop smiling at him– taunting. He knew he had just confirmed the payment from the cashier.

Mr. Frank couldn't meet his gaze, he was ashamed, crushing under the guilt of his earlier coldness towards him.

“I..I heard you paid the money.” He said, his voice low, the words barely making it out from his lips.

Blade scoffed, unmoved. "$40,000. VIP ward. Yeah. I did.” He said, rubbing his victory on his face, unable to hide the amusement in his voice.

Mr. Frank gulped hard as if his tongue just dried up. “That... that's good.” He stuttered, now raising his head, slightly.

“Just make sure my grandmother has the best treatment. That'll be the good thing about this evening.” Blake said and walked away, leaving Dr. Frank speechless and wondering.

Could Blake have been pretending all along? How or where on earth did he get $20,000?!

He knew he's the worthless son-in-law of the Walter family. Dr. Frank is the family doctor and he knows well how everyone hates him and hates to help him but except Jemina.

He clings to the thought, assured that it was Jemina who helped him out.

“Leech!" He cursed under his breath.

Lana was moved to another ward. The two-way door of the ward slid open as two nurses pushed the wheel bed into the new ward after activating a button on the wall.

The ward screams elegance from all angles. The modern and advanced apparatuses in the hospital looks like it was carved out from wealth. Yes it screams wealth.

The flat screen medical monitor on the walls which displays colorful lines with measured accuracy– oxygen level, respiration rate, heart beat rate.

An ICU bed seated beside an infusion pump system, ready to deliver fluid with quiet precision.

The room can cool down a body burning from extreme temperature and it could even make someone forget his troubles and start sipping Expresso, forgetting the primary function of the room. It was quiet, conducive and classic, structured for comfort and not just for treatment.

Moments later, doctors, up to Three, walked into the ward and they commenced treatment on Lana.

Blake was pacing along the corridor, praying the surgery go smoothly.

He sat and stood up, sat and stood up. His heart was burning with the expectations of seeing her granny finally working on her feet.

He shot up from the seat immediately the three doctors came out of the ward, leaving two nurses behind to watch over the woman.

One of the doctors pulled his bloody glove and dumped it into a trash can. He breathed heavily as he also pulled the Mask on his face.

This is not a time for breathing space. "How is my grandmother? Is she okay? How did the surgery go?!" Blade was very curious to know.

With a smile, the doctor shot out his right arm. “Congratulations Mr. Suvillan. The surgery was successful!” He said.

Blade felt his heart lifted, his anxiety dropped and a cool breeze swept across his face which ignited with a big smile on it. He wanted to scream, to jump but that'll look very odd. He could only do that in his heart.

He shook the doctor's hand firmly. "Thank you doctor. Can I go check on her now?" He asked.

“Sure, you can. Though she's still unconscious so it will be better if you don't disturb her, for now.” The doctor said and walked away.

Gently, Blake pushed the door of the ward open and entered. He stood beside the bed, watching Lana like she's the most interesting sight to behold in the world. He felt at ease regardless of the pain behind his head.

Blake didn't leave the hospital in a rush. He needed not to panic, making dinner and washing plates for Walter's family tonight.

The maids in the house outnumbered the tasks in the mansion but Blake is usually the one doing everything; from laundry to dish washing, to cooking for the family. No breathing space.

Since today is Pa. Walter's birthday, they must have sorted themselves out but he has leave because of tomorrow morning.

Stepping into the lobby, Blake was attracted by the cry of a little girl. Everyone seems to be busy with their own life without even looking at her side.

Blake walked to her and squatted to her in front of her. "Why are you crying little one?” Blake smiled faintly, curious to know why she was crying.

Tears keep running from her small innocent eyes to her beautiful face. She sniffed, her head twitching slightly like someone shivering from a cold. She pointed her little finger in a direction.

“My..my mum..she's there..Sick.” She could barely say the words, sniffing in-between.

Blake looked in the direction she pointed but saw no one except people walking along the corridor but he understood her.

He turned to her with a gentle smile on his face. “Your mum is going to be fine...”

The little girl, about 5 years old, shook her head in disapproval. “$7,000.” She said, voice low and soft but determined.

Blake didn't understand. His brow narrowed with confusion. “$7000?"

“Her mother couldn't pay for her medication. It's $7000.” A nurse who had been standing nearby, hearing their conversation clarified.

Blake straightened up and looked at the nurse. “Is that the tally of the medications? Everything?" He asked calmly, voice filled with intents.

The nurse nodded gently. “Yes, sir."

Blake squatted before the girl again and smiled at her. He wiped the droplets away from below her eyes. “Stop crying, I'll pay for your mum's medication. She'll be fine.” He smiled at her.

Blake still has $20, 000 sitting in his bank account so he needs not to bother about helping out.

How fast things changed for him. He was as broke and helpless as a Street beggar some hours ago and now he has thousands in his account.

He can't wait to explore the mysterious system more.

Dr. Frank walked in at that moment.

“I'll pay for her mother's medication.” Blake said and Dr. Frank heard it.

Dr. Frank's eyes narrowed, surprised. He is still drowning in the confusion and skepticism of the earlier transfer Blake did and then this again–

Someone who couldn't afford a dime some hours ago is now paying for someone else's bill.

How miraculously shocking!

Something is not right about this and he's going to find out.

He pulled out his phone.
