Chapter 5: The Storm Scripers

Alator didn't know what it was or its value, but he was sure it was something that could be useful. He kept it and tried to see what else he could find as he slid his hand back into the pouch.

His fingers brushed against something sturdy and cool to touch. Alator grabbed it and pulled it out of the pouch. His eyes went wide as his hand was accompanied by a shiny blade of a sword. He glanced at the long sword in his hand and glanced back at the pouch.

He was wondering how such a long sword managed to fit inside such a small pouch. Of course, this was a Spatial Pouch, used by Mages to carry their weapons or other useful materials. One could literally store anything he can touch, move, or carry into the Spatial Pouch, except sturdy and immovable things like houses or a tree.

Alator smiled as he gazed at the shiny blade. Though he didn't quite understand how weapons were being graded, he didn't even know if the sword was powerful or not, but he believed the sword must be a top-tier weapon, considering the fact that it belongs to a Mage. But honestly, the sword was just a One-Star weapon, which can barely scratch a Mana Condensing-tier Mage.

After he examined the sword for a few more seconds, he put the sword back inside the leather pouch and hung it on his waist. He was sure the pouch had other things that could be useful inside.

But for now, he needed to enter the garrison, and looking at his appearance now, he was wearing the Scriper's uniform, and coupled with the commotion inside the garrison, Alator was sure that his chances of sneaking in has gone from zero to ninety-nine percent.

Without wasting time, Alator made his way towards the garrison.

Some minutes later, he arrived at the fence. He observed the inside through the small hole in the fence. Once he was sure that no one was around, he jumped up and grabbed the top of the fence, pulling himself up with some effort. After a brief struggle, he managed to climb over. He didn't need to go through the sewers anymore; the commotion earlier has done most of the job for him.

After observing his surrounding carefully and making sure no one had seen him, he dropped down inside, rolled on the ground, and quickly hid behind a cart.

At this moment, he saw people wearing the same uniform as him, rushing forward, towards the main gate of the garrison. He quickly joined them, blending into the group without being noticed.

Alator found himself standing in line with other Scripers. They were about hundreds of Scripers lining up in front of the gate. There, a man stood in front of the assembled Scripers; his uniform was different from others.

He was wearing a long white leather coat and a white doublet beneath. This was Arlen, the Regent of the Storm House. Meanwhile, others were wearing a white doublet and a leather tactical vest on top. Everyone was putting on their gear and was ready for some action.

"Everyone," the Regent began. "It is time to defend the Domain again from the demonic beasts, who have been invading our territory." The Regent said as he walked towards them. "We just got information about traces of demonic beasts in the Domain. So let's go out there and protect our families and loved ones from these evil creatures.

Reinforcements have been sent from the House and are on their way, but until they arrive, we hold the line!! We shall not let Raven's Peak Domain fall into the hands of these monsters!" The Regent said with a serious face as he walked in between the lines, sweeping his gaze around.

"The Domain Lord is waiting for our victory, so we shall not disappoint!" He shouted at the top of his voice as he raised his fist.

"We shall not disappoint!!"

"We shall not disappoint!!!"

The Scripers roared in unison, filled with high spirits, and their eyes burning with resolve.

After hearing the commander, Alator narrowed his gaze at him with an uncertain look on his face.

"Tch!" Alator scoffed. "This guy really knows how to rile people up. Which demonic beasts and monsters is he talking about?" Alator said with scorn.

Common people in this Wastelands like Alator had no idea about the actual danger in this world. One thousand years ago, humanity had advanced so greatly in technology that they believed themselves to be untouchable. But after a strange anomaly occurred, out of nowhere, demonic beasts appeared and raided human territory.

they destroyed both machinery and technological infrastructure that made the world easier, leaving a husk of iron and ruins.

The beasts were finally driven back behind the Rift and sealed away by the Immortal King's final sacrifice, a dying act that saturated the world with Mana. Mana was never meant for mortals. It came from a divine act, a dying wish that granted humanity power after the fall of the Calistian realm.

With no central government left in the Wastelands, those few families who mastered the art of Mana forged a new, iron-fisted order, giving rise to the Eight Noble Houses that rule the Eight Domains in the Wastelands. But, in this current Mage Era, the demonic beasts are beginning to make their way back into human territory again. A terrifying sign that the ancient seal is finally collapsing.

Currently, Alator was thinking they were going to hunt some wild animals. So, he didn't care. To him, even if the situation was really dangerous just as the man claimed, he would just hide and wait for them to finish with the so-called beast. Once it's over, he would come back and reap the benefits as one of the survivors.

"Move!!"

"Move!!"

The loud voice of the Regent jolted Alator out of his thoughts. Alator immediately joined others who were already making their way towards the heavy riveted, grizzled armored vehicles. It had thick steel plates, heavy iron wheels, and scorched marks from close-range combat and spells.

This vehicle uses Mana Crystals to move and function, which is the rarest and most precious form of Mana Stone in the Wastelands, making it even more difficult to use.

"Infuse the Mana Crystals in the power zone, fast!!" The Regent roared.

Runes began to appear on the surface of the armored vehicles, then they roared to life.

Soon, the seven armored vehicles took off.

......

"What! Why did you allow him to join the Storm Scripers? Have you forgotten what's at stake if something happens to him?!" A voice roared like thunder beside the garrison.

Alator sank inside the water. He carefully reached out his hand, and picked up the object and began to swimm towards the shore. When he got out of the water. Alator gave the object a look, and it turned out to be an exquisite silver blade spearhead. It had three pointed edges, with the one at the center a bit longer than the two on its either side. Alator stared at it for a while. Even though he didn't really know much about weapons. He has seen lots of spears, but what he was holding now was different from any other one he had ever seen. He wished he had a good iron ore to cast its shaft, at least that would have replaced the sword he lost during the fight. He sighed and shook his head. He just realized that even if he had the ore, he couldn't possibly cast the spear by himself; therefore, he needs to find a blacksmith to do the job. Just as Alator turned around, the spearhead began to vibrate with a strong energy and sparks of lightning sizzled around it. "Huh!" Alator stopped

He only moved his eyes around and scanned his surroundings. The place was dim, and the wind was cold and carried the foul smell of stagnant water. Alator shifted his gaze to the right.
