The tension within the Montgomery estate remained a suffocating presence. Damien writhed on the floor, still groaning in excruciating pain as the ominous dark lines continued their relentless spread across his body. Everyone frantically worked to hold him down, desperate to keep him conscious. His eyes flickered open, each time glowing with an unsettling crimson light.

"His eyes are glowing? His eyes are glowing! Why are his eyes glowing!?" Sarah shrieked, her voice close to breaking.

"Hey kid, don't give in to him! Keep your eyes open. Don't snooze..." Fenris urged, his voice firm, leaning over Damien.

"I'm trying... He's... forcing them... Closed..." Damien gasped, his words strained through agony.

"Damien? Damien, listen to me..." Fenris pressed. "What do you see? What does he look like?"

Damien struggled, fighting against the overwhelming force. "... I can't really... Make out his face, but... his eyes are glowing... Just like... Palmer's."

Palmer hoisted Valen onto his back and carried him out of the ruined vault. The sight that greeted them in the yard was chaos— everyone was on the ground, writhing in pain.."Neither of them was the real Valen," Kael gasped, clutching his abdomen."He had us checkmated before we could move a piece," Palmer replied, carefully setting Valen down. "He was thinking three steps ahead... aimed for the orb while avoiding unnecessary fights.""How did he know where to look immediately? That box has the entity's energy sealed; he couldn't have located it that easily," Max said."He must've gotten the orb's location from Damien's memory," Valen replied, already pushing himself up, his face set.Sarah, already pale with dread, gasped. "Doesn't that mean he knows where the Black Orb is as well?""No. If he really tampered with Damien's memory to get the location of the first one, then he won't know where the Black Orb is," Valen asserted, his voice firm and confident. "I hid that box myself. He s

"I wished you'd just cease to exist." The woman's voice, ragged and raw, sliced through the air like a rusty blade. Her dark hair, matted and unkempt, clung to her face as she grabbed the little boy's hair, her fingers digging into his scalp, and flung him against the wall of their squalid home.He landed with a thud, his small body crumpling, but his face remained terrifyingly blank. He made no sound, only scraped his nails on the wooden floor as if searching for purchase in the world. She looked as tattered and unkept as her words, barely hanging on to life herself. Stepping forward, she kicked him hard on the head. "Could you just get out of our lives already?""Hey, hey..." A hulking man, clearly drunk, swayed into the room, a cigarette dangling from his lips and a pistol clutched in his hand. "If you really don't wanna see him forever, why don't you just kill him?""We've done that several times, remember," she retorted, covering her mouth as if to stifle a retch. "But he just ke

The sound of hammering and sawing echoed across the estate, punctuated by Fenris's familiar, exasperated muttering."Tsk, the three main reasons this place is a wreck are doing absolutely nothing, but I get to work twice as hard as everyone else, even though I more or less saved the day," he grumbled, pounding a nail. "This is racism. And for some reason, why am I so good at this? Is the body I'm wearing that of a pro carpenter? Jeez, I could win awards for these masterpieces!"His self-congratulatory monologue was cut short by the sight of a car driving through the gaping, broken gate—a souvenir from Elijah and Lilith's recent visit. The vehicle rolled to a slow halt beside the cracked fountain. Max and Dylan stepped out, their gazes sweeping over the ruin of the estate."This place is a mess," Dylan observed, his eyes scouting the widespread damage.Max closed the car door behind him. "So, they got to you guys too, huh?""You guys looking to work too? There's a lot left to do, y'see

"Boom, boom, crash, thud, crash..."Sarah winced, her eyes fixed on the television screen as she flipped through channels with the remote. "They're at it again, aren't they?""Seems that way," Damien replied, lounging on a plush leather couch, seemingly unfazed by the commotion.Crash, thud, thud, boom! The sounds grew louder, closer."Hey, cut it out, you two! I'm trying to repair the mess you made, and you're only making it worse!" Kael's voice boomed from outside.A brief silence hung in the air, broken by the sudden, forceful swing of the door. Valen, dusting off his hands, tossed Fenris unceremoniously onto the floor."You might as well give up trying to escape, Fenris. You've learned by now escaping Valen is futile," Sarah said, her attention still glued to the TV remote."Arghh! This is blatant cheating! You're practically a cheat code! How do you do that?" Fenris groaned, scrambling to his feet."I can smell your pathetic attempts to flee even from ten miles away. Try again wh

The tires hummed softly on the near-empty express highway, the silver gleam of the road stretching endlessly ahead. Max gripped the wheel with one hand, the other resting near the window, lost in thought. Beside him, Dylan sat quietly, his mask slightly tilted as he stared at the horizon. The silence had lingered for miles — not uncomfortable, just heavy."You sure your guys will be able to find their way using that old map I gave them?" Max asked, finally breaking the quiet.Dylan glanced over. “We’ve spent most of our lives tracking ancient beings across forgotten ruins. An old mansion shouldn't be a problem.” His voice softened. “Fret not. Your family’s in good hands.”Max gave a small nod but didn’t reply.Another stretch of silence passed before Dylan spoke again. “So… how did you manage to fend off two nobles in one night?”Max raised an eyebrow. “Why? Curious?”“Call it... personal interest,” Dylan replied, leaning back. “The first supernatural I ever faced was a rogue demon. H
