The sun had refused to rise properly. And even I’d it dared to, Devin was sure as hell ready to cover it. But it was, and it looked like even the heavens were mourning Kia's death.

It was the second day of Kia’s burial rites.

The estate was quieter now. Most of the visitors had paid their respects and left, some returning from the day before, others who had not been able to make it earlier. The funeral was now a constant source of pain.

Devin wasn't there today. He had gone out, and not a lot of people knew where he was exactly, but everyone knew better than to ask.

Kia's grave stayed just as it had been, surrounded by fresh flowers and gifts for the dead. The dirt was still fresh, and it looked like it didn't belong in this world. Like someone had punched a hole through mother earth and decided to drop an angel inside it.

Amanda stood behind a tree, wearing a long black hoodie and sunglasses. Her hands trembled inside the oversized sleeves. She hadn't planned to cry, but the mo

It had only been two days since Devin ambushed Viktor, and Amanda had been on her own since then. She didn't even let Viktor know that she had seen the whole thing until he vanished. All she did was act like she had never been there, and then went back to her own home. She sat holding a warm cup of coffee with her blanket around her, enjoying the heat. Chilly days all but bothered her, but she still had a pressing issue on her mind. "What if Devin finds out and comes after me?" She asked aloud, unable to hide her worry. That was when it hit her. Luther! But he hadn't been raking her calls. Before all this, as toxic as he was, he was always there for her. She got her phone out, trying her luck for the last time. Luther's phone rang on for almost a minute. She had given up hope when he finally picked the call. "Amanda." "Luther! I-I can't believe you picked my call." She was unable to keep the surprise out of her voice. "I was so close to not picking it, trust me." He s

Amanda’s heart thudded as Victor’s car rolled to a stop at the dimly lit cabin on the outskirts of the city. The air smelled of pine and cold mist, but inside, the tension was stifling.Victor stepped out first, circling the hood to open her door with that same forced smile he’d worn since they left the city.“Come on, Amanda. You’ll love this place,” he coaxed, voice dipped in false sweetness.Inside the cabin, soft light flickered from a single lamp. Plush rugs, a fireplace — but the warmth was all facade. Amanda felt the hair on her neck rise as Victor’s hand brushed the small of her back, guiding her in.When he turned to face her, there was hunger in his eyes — not the kind that craved food.He cupped her face, thumb stroking her cheek. “You know, you’ve been so distant lately. We should fix that.”She stiffened. “Victor… don’t.”His hand dropped, but the smile didn’t fade. Instead, it twitched at the corners — straining to stay in place as his jaw worked.“Don’t?” He let out a l

  • Chapter 188

The rain was falling like angry needles from the sky. Amanda was crouched behind a pile of cracked cement blocks and broken steel pipes, barely breathing as she peeked toward the old glass plant. She’d followed Viktor here earlier, against her better judgment, and now she was beginning to regret it. Far in the distance, she had see them. Cars, so many of them approaching, and they looked quite dangerous, to say in the least. There were four of them, matte black, and no headlights on. They looked like ghosts in the rain as they came to a stop. Then the doors opened, and armed men got out, looking like a war set. Her eyes widened when the last cars opened. “Shit!” She whispered. What was it with her and getting involved with dangerous men? She knew that face. Devin Stone. Dressed in all black, and looking like he was about to rip the fucking world apart. Behind him, stood Dreykov, and he looked just as cold, and just as dangerous. His men looked like mercenaries straigh

  • Chapter 187

Devin got into his study and took a seat, closing his eyes. What was the use of a system upgrade if the one person he wanted to find was able to block themselves? He turned on the screen again, and a blinking bar sat next to a line of text. >Enter Query. Devin took in a deep breath and typed again. >What killed Henry Blake? The screen froze and symbols started to pop up on the screen. Devin was annoyed. “What the fuck is this?” >How to override magic locks? The system started to load, and all of a sudden, his inventory made a sound. He opened it, and saw a large key in one of the sections shining. He selected it and dragged it onto the screen. >Magic Key Detected. Attempting Override... …Bypassing Restrictions... WARNING!!! TRACING FORBIDDEN ZONE!!! HIGH-RISK SPELL IDENTIFIED!!! Then it stopped working. Devin wanted to curse at the world. All of a sudden, a message popped up. >Cause of death: Hexed Nightmare Charm Spell. …Caster: Viktor. Devin’s heart s

Yvonne’s hands wouldn’t stop shaking. She sat curled up on the edge of Devin’s couch, her eyes darting around like a hunted animal. Her lipstick was smudged, and her blazer was wrinkled like she’d been running. She looked like shit and she hadn’t slept in days. Henry’s death did that to her. She couldn’t believe that the man she had looked up to, the man she had cherished, and respected, one of the few men in the world who knew how to care for others, who knew how to be kind and was good at his work, she couldn’t believe that he was gone. Not just gone, murdered in cold blood. Devin watched her from the other side of the room, leaning against the wall with a glass of water in his hand. He had said nothing yet, just allowed her to get her breath back. It had been days already, he told her so. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come here.” Yvonne whispered, looking up at Devin with sadness in her eyes. “I just didn’t know what to do right now. How could they… what did he ever do th

  • Chapter 185

Amanda hadn’t seen Viktor in person since the last time that she almost had him killed by Devin, after revealing his secret to him. She’d agreed to meet him at a secluded hangout spot where she had to pay to merely enter. It was a place that was built for secret meetings and to discuss confidential things. People paid a huge sum just to enter the place, and it was just as she expected. There were signs when she got there, it just looked like a regular building. She wasn’t even sure if she was at the right place until she tried to enter and a lady stopped her. “The landlord isn’t home right now, leave a message.” Amanda looked the women all over and asked her what the problem was, but the woman only repeated what she said earlier. “The landlord isn’t home right now, leave a message.” Amanda looked confused and checked her phone. A private number had sent a message, and she checked it. It must have been Viktor waiting inside. -Tell him it’s his bride.- It read. She frown
