The moment Damien heard his mother’s voice and saw her standing alive in front of him, he could no longer control himself.

He rushed forward and pulled her into his arms.

His movement was so sudden that his mother stumbled back, her eyes widening as she stared at him in complete shock, but Damien held her tightly against his chest as though she might disappear the moment he let go.

For two years, he had watched her suffer.

For two years, he had listened to her weak breathing and seen the cold slowly take her life while the Whitmore family kept the fire ring that could have saved her.

For two years, he had blamed himself for not being able to protect her.

Now she was standing in front of him again, warm, healthy, and confused, and Damien could not stop the tears from filling his eyes.

"What the hell is going on?" his mother asked, her voice filled with worry. "Why are you doing this? Damien, are you okay? What happened to you?"

Damien did not answer her.

He only held her tighter while his body shook against hers, and the only words he could force out were the ones that had been trapped inside him for years.

"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I'm sorry, Mother. I'm very sorry."

His mother became even more confused, and she slowly placed both hands on his shoulders, trying to push him back so she could see his face.

"Sorry for what?" she asked. "Is this because I shouted at you earlier? If it is, then you should know that I am not angry with you. I was only surprised that you were still standing and saying some strange words when you were supposed to be getting ready. I did not mean to make you feel bad."

Damien shook his head while still holding her.

"It is not that," he said, his voice breaking. "I am sorry for everything. I am sorry I failed you. I am sorry I could not save you."

His mother's worried expression deepened.

"Save me from what?" she asked. "Damien, you are frightening me. What happened?"

Before Damien could answer, another voice came from the hallway.

"What is going on in here?"

Damien's father came walking into the room, still fixing his shirt collar while looking at the two of them with confusion on his face. He had already dressed for the day, and his hair was neatly combed, just as Damien remembered it.

His father was alive too.

The sight of him made Damien's chest tighten again.

He had watched his father die when the frozen apocalypse first struck. He had watched the cold swallow him in an instant, leaving Damien with no chance to say goodbye, no chance to hold his hand, and no chance to do anything except watch the life leave his body.

Now he was standing in front of Damien as if nothing had happened.

"Why are you still standing here?" his father asked. "Do you not know what day it is? Why are you delaying? You are supposed to be ready by now."

Damien stared at him.

His father frowned. "What is wrong with you? Today is your graduation. You cannot be late for such an important day."

"Graduation?" Damien repeated weakly.

His eyes opened wide.

The word struck him harder than anything else had.

Today was his graduation.

That meant he had truly returned to the past.

He had not been dreaming, and he was not in the afterlife. The system had not been some punishment waiting for him after death. He had gone back five years, back to the day of his graduation, exactly sixty days before the frozen apocalypse destroyed the world.

Damien slowly released his mother, but his eyes remained fixed on his father.

"Sixty days," he whispered.

His mother touched his arm. "What did you say?"

"I have sixty days," Damien said, and his breathing became faster as the truth settled inside his mind. "I have sixty days before the apocalypse begins."

The frozen apocalypse would arrive sixty days after his graduation.

He remembered the date clearly because it had been the day that changed everything, the day the temperature dropped without warning and turned the world into a frozen death zone, the day millions of people died before they even understood what was happening.

But this time, he knew.

This time, he had a chance to prepare.

His father stepped closer and placed a hand on his shoulder. "You can think about whatever is bothering you after the ceremony. Right now, go get dressed. You cannot be late for your own graduation."

His mother nodded quickly. "Your father is right. Go and get ready, we do not have much time left."

Damien looked at both of them.

He wanted to say everything.

He wanted to tell them about the future, tell them about the frozen world, tell them that his father would die in sixty days and that his mother would suffer for two years before the Whitmore family allowed her to freeze to death.

But he knew they would not believe him.

So he swallowed the words and gave them a small nod.

"Alright," he said.

Damien turned around and quickly entered his room, then closed the door behind him and stood there with his back pressed against it while he tried to understand what had happened.

His breathing was unsteady.

His hands were shaking.

He had returned to the past, but he had no idea why, and he still did not understand the strange system that had appeared before his eyes in the frozen pit.

As soon as the thought crossed his mind, another notification sounded.

"Ding!"

A bright screen appeared in front of him.

At that exact moment, Damien felt his entire body go rigid with shock, and it was not the shock of receiving another system mission that froze him in place, it was the single word attached to that mission, a name that struck something deep and painful inside him the second it registered in his mind.Whitmore.That name alone was enough to send a cold shiver crawling up his spine, a name he had never once expected to hear again so soon, a name that belonged to the very family who had destroyed everything he once loved in the life he had already lived through. Clara, his wife in that frozen future, the woman who stood over him with a bat in her hands and broke every bone in his body without a flicker of guilt on her face, her family name had been Whitmore. That could only mean one thing, and the realization hit him like a punch to the gut, this woman lying on the ground bleeding out in front of him, this Megan Whitmore, had to be connected somehow to that same bloodline, to that same r

Damien lay there in the frozen pit with his broken body sinking deeper into the ice and garbage, with the cold wrapping tighter around his chest like invisible hands squeezing the last bits of warmth out of him, and somewhere in the fog of pain and exhaustion his mind started drifting toward his mother."I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice so weak it barely made a sound, so thin it almost disappeared into the frozen air around him. "I'm so sorry, Mother, I failed you."The words came out broken and slow because his throat was closing up from the cold, because his lungs were struggling to pull in air, because every part of him was shutting down piece by piece."I failed you," he said again, and tears started sliding down his frozen cheeks. "I was so foolish, I believed them, I believed every single word those good-for-nothing bastards told me, I thought if I just worked hard enough, if I just did what they asked, they would keep their promise, they would give me the ring, they would le
