Damien lay there in the frozen pit with his broken body sinking deeper into the ice and garbage, with the cold wrapping tighter around his chest like invisible hands squeezing the last bits of warmth out of him, and somewhere in the fog of pain and exhaustion his mind started drifting toward his mother.
"I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice so weak it barely made a sound, so thin it almost disappeared into the frozen air around him. "I'm so sorry, Mother, I failed you." The words came out broken and slow because his throat was closing up from the cold, because his lungs were struggling to pull in air, because every part of him was shutting down piece by piece. "I failed you," he said again, and tears started sliding down his frozen cheeks. "I was so foolish, I believed them, I believed every single word those good-for-nothing bastards told me, I thought if I just worked hard enough, if I just did what they asked, they would keep their promise, they would give me the ring, they would let me live." His breath came out in short stuttering gasps and his vision blurred until all he could see was white. "But look where it got me," Damien whispered. "Look where I ended up, thrown away like trash, left to die in a frozen pit just like you died, just like they let you die, and I could not stop it, I could not save you, I could not even save myself." His voice faded into nothing and his chest barely moved anymore, the cold had spread so deep into his body that he could not feel his legs, could not feel his arms, could not feel anything except the dull heavy weight of his own failure pressing down on him. "If we meet again," he said, his lips barely forming the words now. "If there is an afterlife, if there is somewhere we go after this, I promise I will not make the same mistake, I will not trust the wrong people, I will not let them use me, I will not fail you again." His eyes closed, his breathing slowed until it was almost nothing. The dragon mark on his chest pulsed one more time with that strange burning heat, but Damien was too far gone to notice it, too close to the edge of death to feel anything except the cold pulling him down. And then he heard it. "Ding." The sound was sharp and clear and impossible, like a bell ringing inside his head, and Damien's eyes snapped open even though he did not have the strength to open them. A glowing interface appeared in front of his face, floating in the air like a screen made of light, and words started forming across it in bright white letters that cut through the darkness. [APOCALYPSE SURVIVOR SYSTEM ACTIVATED] [HOST MATCH: 100%] [ACCEPT OR DIE] Damien stared at the glowing screen and his mind tried to process what he was seeing, but nothing made sense, nothing about this was real, nothing about this could be real. "What the hell is this?" he whispered, his voice shaking. "Is this the afterlife? Is this what happens when you die? Is this some kind of punishment?" The screen did not answer, it just stayed there floating in front of him with those three words glowing brighter and brighter. [ACCEPT OR DIE] And then a countdown appeared underneath the words. [10] [9] [8] Damien's heart started beating faster even though his body was barely functioning, even though the cold had almost completely taken him, his mind was screaming at him to do something, to make a choice, to understand what was happening. "I suffered my entire life," Damien said, his voice breaking. "I lost my father, I lost my mother, I worked myself to death for people who hated me, and now I am dying alone in a frozen pit, and you are telling me I have to suffer more? You are telling me this is not over yet?" [7] [6] [5] The countdown kept going and Damien realized with a sharp cold clarity that this was real, that this was not a dream or a hallucination or some cruel trick his dying brain was playing on him, this was something else, something he did not understand but something that was giving him a choice. Accept or die. "What do I even have to lose?" Damien whispered. [4] [3] His hand moved, or at least he thought it moved, he could not feel it anymore but somehow his broken arm lifted slightly off the frozen ground and his fingers reached toward the glowing screen. [2] "I accept," Damien said, and his voice was stronger now, louder, filled with something that might have been hope or might have been desperation or might have been both. "I accept, I accept, whatever this is, I accept it." His finger touched the screen. [1] [ACCEPTED] The screen flashed bright white and then the words changed. [BLOODLINE CULTIVATION INITIATED] [BLOODLINE CONFIRMED: 100% MATCH] [HOST WELCOME TO THE FROZEN APOCALYPSE SURVIVOR SYSTEM] And then everything exploded into light. White light so bright it burned through Damien's closed eyelids, so overwhelming it swallowed the frozen pit and the cold and the pain and everything else until there was nothing left except the light itself. Damien felt himself falling, or maybe rising, he could not tell anymore because there was no ground beneath him, no sky above him, just endless white light that seemed to stretch on forever in every direction. "I knew it," Damien whispered, his voice echoing strangely in the emptiness around him. "I knew I was going to die, this is it, this is the end, I am gone." "What the hell are you talking about?" The voice cut through the light like a knife and Damien froze. He knew that voice. "Die?" the voice continued, sharper now, louder, filled with confusion and something that sounded almost like anger. "What are you saying? What nonsense is coming out of your mouth?" Damien's breath caught in his throat and his heart started pounding so hard he thought it might burst. "Mother?" he whispered. The white light around him started to fade and shapes began forming in the brightness, walls and furniture and windows, and Damien blinked once, twice, three times, trying to focus, trying to understand what he was seeing. "That is definitely her voice," Damien said, his voice shaking now. "That is my mother's voice." Then the light disappeared completely. Damien was standing in the middle of a small living room with worn furniture and faded curtains and a cracked tile floor, and he recognized it immediately because this was his parents' house, the house he grew up in, the house he had not seen in five years. And standing in front of him with her hands on her hips and her face twisted into an expression of confusion and worry was his mother.Latest Chapter
Chapter 10
At that exact moment, Damien felt his entire body go rigid with shock, and it was not the shock of receiving another system mission that froze him in place, it was the single word attached to that mission, a name that struck something deep and painful inside him the second it registered in his mind.Whitmore.That name alone was enough to send a cold shiver crawling up his spine, a name he had never once expected to hear again so soon, a name that belonged to the very family who had destroyed everything he once loved in the life he had already lived through. Clara, his wife in that frozen future, the woman who stood over him with a bat in her hands and broke every bone in his body without a flicker of guilt on her face, her family name had been Whitmore. That could only mean one thing, and the realization hit him like a punch to the gut, this woman lying on the ground bleeding out in front of him, this Megan Whitmore, had to be connected somehow to that same bloodline, to that same r

At that moment, Damien could not stop himself from smiling. The smile slowly spread across his face, deep and full of hope, because one thing was clear in his mind now: he was not going to make the same mistake again. He would not trust the Whitmore family. He would not wait for someone else to save him.He would not waste the second chance he had been given. Before he could say anything else, another notification appeared in front of him, and the system screen that had been floating in the air suddenly changed.[SYSTEM MISSION COUNTDOWN ACTIVATED.][TIME REMAINING BEFORE THE FIRST SYSTEM MISSION IS RELEASED: 01:00:00.][THE FIRST SYSTEM MISSION WILL BE ACTIVATED IN ONE HOUR.]Damien stared at the countdown as the numbers began to move.[00:59:59.]His heart started beating faster. He had one hour before the system gave him his first mission, one hour before he found out what he needed to do to begin gaining experience, system points, and rewards, and even though he had no idea what k

At that moment Damien stared at the notification without blinking.Another line of text appeared beneath it.[STARTER ATTRIBUTES HAVE BEEN UNLOCKED.][1. UNLIMITED SYSTEM STORAGE.][2. UNLIMITED SYSTEM FARMLAND.][3. SYSTEM TIME DIFFERENCE.][ONE MINUTE INSIDE THE SYSTEM EQUALS ONE DAY OUTSIDE THE SYSTEM.]Damien's eyes widened as he read the next line.[ONE HOUR INSIDE THE SYSTEM EQUALS SIXTY DAYS OUTSIDE THE SYSTEM.]He quickly began calculating in his head. One day inside the system had twenty-four hours, and every hour held sixty minutes, which meant one day inside the system contained one thousand four hundred and forty minutes. If one thousand four hundred and forty days in the system world would equal one day in real words That was almost four years in the system word.Damien's lips slowly parted. He had sixty days before the apocalypse, but inside the system, he could spend over 240 years and still gain the same amount of outside time before the disaster arrived. With that mu

The moment Damien heard his mother’s voice and saw her standing alive in front of him, he could no longer control himself. He rushed forward and pulled her into his arms. His movement was so sudden that his mother stumbled back, her eyes widening as she stared at him in complete shock, but Damien held her tightly against his chest as though she might disappear the moment he let go.For two years, he had watched her suffer. For two years, he had listened to her weak breathing and seen the cold slowly take her life while the Whitmore family kept the fire ring that could have saved her.For two years, he had blamed himself for not being able to protect her.Now she was standing in front of him again, warm, healthy, and confused, and Damien could not stop the tears from filling his eyes."What the hell is going on?" his mother asked, her voice filled with worry. "Why are you doing this? Damien, are you okay? What happened to you?"Damien did not answer her.He only held her tighter while

Then she moved to his left arm and did the same thing.Damien lay on the floor with both legs broken and both arms broken and blood pouring from his mouth and his nose and cuts all over his face, he could not move, he could barely breathe, every inch of him was on fire with pain so intense that his body kept trying to shut down just to escape it.Clara handed the bat back to the guard and smoothed her dress with both hands like she had just finished something ordinary."Good," she said quietly. "Now I can forgive you for wasting my time."Damien stared at her through the haze of pain and shock and he could not believe this was real, could not believe this was the woman he had been married to for four years, the woman he thought he knew. How did he let them trick him like this? How did he not see it coming? He was so angry, so devastated, so destroyed that he could not even form words anymore, all he could do was lie there and shake and bleed and wait for whatever came next.Richard lo
