The Next Morning
I woke up early to do routine body exercises. Though I can increase my stats with points, if I stay lazy and don’t do things, my body will go stiff. I’ll become a statue that moves in one direction.
I would be the easiest moving target in history.
It’s not the only reason, I should keep up appearances. If I appear lazy and suddenly grew stronger, everyone will suspect that I have treasured. All eyes will turn towards me.
Before becoming strong, I need to keep the stronger eyes away. If they see that I was improving like every other magician, they won’t pay much attention.
When I become the strongest, even if they think that I possess treasures, they can’t hurt me in any way.
After my exercises, I took bath to clean myself and put on the new academic wear.
The clothes have runes, which adjusted to our bodies pretty easily. This would reduce the need to buy new clothes every time the body has slight improvement. This is one of my recent concerns.
After I started to increase the stats, my body started to change. My old clothes started to become tighter. If this progress, I would need new clothes. It isn’t the main problem though, as this problem would reoccur.
No way am I going to waste money on that, but the answer prescribed itself.
Runes, I’m going to make rune clothes. It may take time but for now, I have what the academy provided me.
Later I should search for something on this. For now, it’s time to go to class.

8 A.M., Class 1-E
Class 1-E is my class. Unlike the dormitories which are allotted depending on the seniors, we were allotted to. The ones with the highest affinity grade or some special ones are placed in Class 1-A.
The classes range from A to F, in the decreasing affinity grade. The resources provided by the academy to the students reduce in that order. Class 1-A gets a lot of resources in comparison, while 1-F gets low in quantity and quality.
As I learned this is a temporary situation. If one could prove one’s worth in the exams or competitions, one would ascend. The reverse goes for students in the upper classes.
When I entered the class it was almost full. Most of the front-row and middle-row seats were occupied.
I quickly found a corner seat which also gave a view of the outside. I grabbed it before anyone can. Normally kids should flock to this but here it seems different.
Though this is 1-E, these are not of the bottom rung. Most of them are geniuses but in the academy, there are plenty more. They know the only way to improve quickly is to get guidance from a professor.
If the professor likes the student, they get easy access to the best academy facilities. Though everyone has access, those facilities would be common facilities.
The top students would have access to private facilities where they won’t be disturbed. In common grounds, everyone has to spar in a limited space.
“Hi, I’m Gregory. Friends call me Greg.”
When I heard the voice I turned around to see a fat boy sitting next to me, who introduced himself as Greg.
“Hello, I’m Damon. Friends call me Damon.”
The boy chuckled at my response.
Why in world did he sit near me? It’s a cliché protagonist plot.
A fat boy befriends the protagonist who is weak. They get bullied by rich young masters or some genius idiot. Later by Heaven’s Will the protagonist’s power raises so much so that these small fries faint at his sight.
It looks good but it also attracts more problems than I care to handle. The only thing on my mind is now to clear the mystery behind my parents’ death. Nothing much concerns me.
There are two living people I care about and the other two are dead. They are enough for now. If I need I can make friends with characters that don’t attract disasters.
Both protagonists and their companions are considered disaster magnets. I don’t need to be one. I need to keep my distance from potential companions or I could become the cliché.
After I replied back I turned away to look outside the room.
Everyone is new to each other except for a few who came from the same regions.
I didn’t know anyone here, even the one from the Pearl City, Claire was placed in Class 1-A. Her affinity grade when awakened is far better than mine but not now.
With the system, my affinity grade became the best out there, better than the known grades. Though it is the best, I can’t expose myself. If anyone finds out about this, my life will be in danger. The greedy ones will either enslave me or kill me in order to find my secrets.
So for now, I have to look normal in order to not enter their eyes. During the recruitment a lot of people eyed me. They may have felt my improvement. I need to be careful or else…
For now, I would just save the points I get every day. I should concentrate on learning new spells and practicing them so that I can cast them reflexively.

“Okay class, that is for the introductory class. From tomorrow, your real life as a mage starts. In your school, you would have learned the basic ways of magic but here we dwell into them more deeply.”

Chapter 16: The Headmaster
When I looked around, I saw that everyone was getting into formation. While this was happening, I saw that there is an old man standing in front of us. Seeing them both Claire and I followed suit. As everyone stood in formation, the old man spoke, “Welcome to the THORN HILL MAGICAL ACADEMY. My name is Rupert Dyne and I work here as the HEADMASTER.” When the students heard that everyone gasped. Rupert Dyne is one of the legends that are alive. He is a Level-9 Magician but some say he crossed that level. There are rumors of levels that are beyond Level-9 but they remained rumors. No one came out and said that they crossed to a level beyond Level-9. So the realms that lay beyond stayed in the rumors realm. I shouldn’t think about that for now. The only way to confirm is to first become a Level-9 Magician. Anything else can wait for now. “I know many of you have arrived from far places and you are tired, so I’ll keep my speech simple. We all know that weakness is a sin. There may be s
Chapter 15: Leaving and Arriving
I told Mary and Thomas to be careful on the morning of my departure. One reason my home was safe was because of the association. It’s not like they cared about my safety, but they didn’t want the city to think that the safety of the people was compromised. Even though there are many who see me with disgust, there are few who don’t believe in those rumors. If something happened to me in the city, a small spark could burn the image of the association. Now that I leave for the academy, they don’t need to be concerned deeply about my safety. I repeatedly told them not to wander far and never at night. If someone comes to visit, don’t let them inside at any cost. They understood my concern. Even for others, my grade is Yellow; my performance has definitely caught their eyes, though I tried to avoid that. If they see me as a threat, they would certainly make a move against Mary and Thomas or against me. I need to control what others could be able to see. I think I shouldn’t have increas
Chapter 14: Recruitment (2)
I walked to the open space to demonstrate what I’m to these buggers so that I have a chance to be recruited by the top academies. I walked back to my position, I could hear everyone mumbling, but many were surprised that I could seamlessly use a skill. It is not something many achieved at this point in time. As I returned to my position, the day progressed without many excitements. At the end of the day, the principal posted our names list with the academies that were interested in us. I checked mine first and saw that only one academy was interested in me, and it was not even in the top three. I checked other student names, and though the top academy recruited fewer students or no students, the other two were eager to get many students. Pearl City Magic Academy, I can understand, but what about the other two? Why didn’t they offer to recruit me? It wasn’t my grade because one of the students with a grade the same as me got the offer. I even performed better than him, better than
Chapter 13: Recruitment (1)
I used all the points I acquired during these ten days to increase my Mana capacity. After all, the more Mana one has, the more spells one can cast. Above that, there isn’t a device to determine one’s Mana. Only the magician can estimate the number. I’ll be safe as they won’t check the number of spells cast. Of course, casting powerful spells requires a large amount of Mana, but as far anyone knows, there are only one or two Level-1 spells that require huge Mana and none of them are of Ice element. I want the attention of recruiters, not everyone’s attention. If I perform too well, it would be like I’m inviting problems myself. ‘Status’ -- Name: Damon Oswyn Age: 16 Race: Human Shop Points: 40 Level Alter points: 0; Cool-down: 24 hours Level: 1 (Locked) Orbit-1: 1 Affinity: Ice Grade: Black Innate skill: Ice Dragon Level-1 Skills: Ice Breath Level-1 , Ice Field Level-1 Weapons: None Health: 32 (+10) Strength: 16
Chapter 12: Unbelievable SHOP##
Now that I escaped the horror narrowly, I should check what the shop has for me to buy. ‘SHOP’ What the Damn Hell? Why are these so costly? The moment I opened the shop section, I felt like I was cheated. The items looked good, but the prices were unbelievable. The Cheapest items are the Bronze class weapons, and they cost no less than 100 points each. I only got 40 points in total after completing two hidden missions. If this goes on like that, I need to complete at least 5 missions in order to afford a Bronze class weapon. I’m sad not because I couldn’t afford those Bronze class weapons but thinking about the rates of Silver class or Gold class weapons. Their prices would for sure reach the sky. Moreover, from their descriptions, the quality seems to be very high than those of weapons I have seen before. They also offer buffs to the wielder, which only armors did. Weapons are for ignoring the enemy’s defense and killing, not increasing the wielder’s power. I need to get my han
