The New World

Carl was four years old now. He was simply different from other kids… quite peculiar. At his age, he should be swimming in piles of toys, letting his imagination run rampant. But Carl had been seriously gathering information on his new world.

He wanted to know if he had reincarnated to a distant future of his former life. If so, then what happened to the demons? Did the demons agree to the peace treaty he and Lucius Zephyr set in place or did they revolt against it after they disappeared? Were the demons wiped out of the surface of the earth after they lost all their powerhouses?

The questions were just too much for him to handle. He was desperately curious, after all the demons were his people… used to be, since he was now a human child.

How did it happen? How can he who was a demon have ended up as a human? The thought of it disgusted him. Carl wasn't like those demons who had deep hatred towards humanity and thought that humans were beneath them, no, that was why he was able to live with it.

Information gathering turned out to be a difficult job especially if you were a four year old who knew only a handful of syllables and would not be taken seriously when you try to ask the adults.

'Who the hell do they think they are? Adults? I will let them know that I am 660 years old. Plus this life, that makes me 664 years old. Heh… What does that make me, a great great great great grandfather… so… scary. Let's not mention that to anyone, okay.' Carl said, his eyes pinned to the TV screen.

He found it quite fascinating. What sorcery did humans put in place to be able to craft such outstanding Relic. If he had one of these in his castle back then, he would sit around doing nothing while watching TV all day long. The TV had proved to be a valuable companion in helping Carl gather information in this new world. And he was able to find out a great deal of information along with deepening his communication skills… in no time he should be able to speak flawlessly like any abnormal four year old would.

Carl focused his attention on the TV screen, there was live news currently streaming.

— "This is Rex Times live on the location of the incident. A Xenosapian has appeared by the subway station and has gone on a rampage. Forty-eight people are currently trapped down there with it. Their current condition is unknown. I am afraid to say that the Xenosapian might have massacred them all. We all know that these mysterious creatures are vicious, savage and they bring carnage and destruction wherever they are spotted, going on rampage and slaughtering countless numbers of people before they're put down by the Heroes."

—"A group of Heroes has already entered the underground subway station through a breach, will they be able to defeat this abomination like they did their predecessors and possibly rescue survivors?"

This world was no different from his former world. It was not peaceful, plunged into countless chaos and carnage. The world had just survived a world war and its inhabitants were still recovering from the devastation brought by the cold teeth of war.

That was when they appeared. Xenosapians, as humans came to know them to be. Alien lifeforms that had secretly lived among humans in the shadows. They made appearances all over the world bringing carnage and destruction to wherever they appear. Entire towns and cities fell overnight over the assault of one of these beings. Heavy artillery shells found it difficult to pierce through their hides. An adult Xenosapian could tank the full brunt of a nuclear weapon as if it was a walk in the park. They were too powerful and extremely devastating.

One adult Xenosapian has proved to be able to unleash a destructive power equivalent or far suppressing the firepower of nuclear warheads. An adult Xenosapian could level an entire city without even trying. Five of them could solo a nation. The good thing was that Xenosapians were not seen walking in packs, they preferred solo. Theories are on the ground that if two Xenosapian met, they would break out into a chaotic fight. It was noted hypothetically, that they might be highly territorial and value their pride so much.

This side of the Xenosapian, was probably the reason why humanity hadn't been wiped out of the surface of the earth a long time ago.

After the appearance of the Xenosapians, a number of humans began to undergo awakening and they awakened a supernatural constitution along with varying superpowers that helped humanity battle the Xenosapians. These people came to be known as Heroes. However not every superpowered human would want to save the world, those who engaged in criminal activities were labelled as Villains.

With the appearance of Heroes on the scene of the incident, there was a lot of cheering and chattering. People saw hope from these symbols dressed up in spandex suits. Heroes were like idols, appearing in a lot of billboards, business promotion, and advertisement products. They were all over TV, casting as actors in popular shows… they were literally celebrities with all the money and fame… and power.

So, people saw them as a symbol of hope. They had appeared in a time of despair and ruination and had helped to set the world in peace. If it was possible, most people would worship them as mortal gods on earth.

After the Heroes entered the tunnel through the breach, there was no news about the five of them. The whole world clasped their hands and desperately prayed. It was not long that a live feed was streamed inside the subway station. One of the trapped civilians had gone live and the whole world was watching, patiently.

— "It's the Heroes. They've finally come to our rescue. We are saved. Ha. Ha. We are saved. They are currently engaging the Xenosapian in battle." One of the survivors yelled out in tears of joy.

— "Ichor spoke to me. He said not to worry, everything will be fine. Oh I am so grateful… I'm short on words… I thought we were doomed. This is a miracle… this is really a miracle."

Behind them was a scene of the five Heroes engaging in a vigorous battle against a single Xenosapian. The video quality was poor and the surroundings were veiled in faint smoke and dust.

With their supernatural constitution, Heroes could hit really hard. They surrounded the monster and bombarded it with devastating blows like Pros skilled in combat. They took turns in dealing damage to the monsters and covered each other's backs, skillfully.

The Xenosapian hide glowed red, it had absorbed enough kinetic energy to unleash one of their most known deadliest innate abilities. Shockwave!

They could convert kinetic energy stored inside of them into a devastating shockwave that is strong enough to trigger earthquakes. The red glow it was emitting was growing immense, its radiance covering the entire underground subway station. And when it was about to release a wave of shockwaves. An orange barrier was conjured around it.

Boom!

The shockwave was unleashed, however, it was tamed and controlled by the barrier surrounding the Xenosapian. The aftermath of the shockwave was significantly reduced. Only a few pillars and concentrate ceilings collapsed, but the survivors were safe and that was what mattered.

After releasing the shockwave, the Xenosapian needed time and more kinetic energy to recharge before it could release another shockwave. Immediately the barrier was lifted, the Heroes continued on their assault delivering myriads of destructive attacks to the Xenosapian. Even though they appeared desperate, they didn't let it distract them for the slightest reasons.

Not long after the battle raged on, the Heroes finally defeated the Xenosapian and the 31 remaining survivors were rescued with only seven of them injured severely.

As the five Heroes stepped out of the underground subway station, the government agencies immediately took over the site of the incident. Humans were still oblivious as to where the Xenosapians come from. They usually conduct investigations on sites where they are spotted. And the corpse of the Xenosapian is taken to the lab where it is being studied by experts to see if they could discover their origins and if possible their weakness.

Choppers landed on the site as more officials alighted from them and headed to the site of the incident.

Meanwhile, the crowd of press stormed towards the Heroes and began interviewing them concerning the battle that had unfolded earlier. While watching from the TV screen at home, Carl was suddenly surprised by what he had witnessed.

Among the five figures of the Heroes was a face he was very familiar with…

"Dad?"

What is your name?" Carl had never been so happy to see a person dressed in a spandex suit as he was right now. He felt elated. Indeed heroes were Symbols of Hope to people like him. "Yes. M–my name is Carl." Carl said politely. "Good. Carl, I want you to take the kid and run as far as you can. As you can already see, I am outnumbered. But I should be able to buy you enough time to escape. We've backups on their way so there's nothing to be afraid of, Carl." The Hero said confidently. "Okay." • Chapter 2 Villain Attack

Carl laid face down on the bare cold floor of the alley completely battered. He had bruises under his clothes and a few broken ribs. Peter and his gang had thoroughly roughed him up so much that he nearly passed out, he could barely stand on his feet. He just laid there on the floor feeling utterly beaten… hopeless even. The cold biting through his pale skin. He had tried to cry but only pained groans escaped his throat. He tried to turn but moaned instantly as the pain overwhelmed him, but he didn't stop moving his body, until he was able to face up. Carl's condition had changed for the worse ever since he reincarnated. He had read a lot of fictional novels from this world where people from other worlds who got reincarnated, were reborn, overpowered in another world. They receive all the perks that would aid them in surviving their new world. Some of them get to see a sexy and hot blonde goddess who showers them with divine gifts and equipment, and sends them off with a warm sm

But he was used to this kind of situation, there was no way he was going to stumble over the cold floor. He ran through the alleyway, a shortcut…? Or probably a tactic to shake off his tail. But it wasn't because he was bothered that the boys were catching up to him. The gap between t

  • At Dinner

It was dinner time the next day, that the door bell finally went off. Carl and his father were seated at the dining table while his mother was busy moving the food from the kitchen to the dining table. "That must be him." Jason Reed, Carl's father said, as he stood up from his seat and left to answer the door bell. Carl just watched, a hint of curiosity piqued his eyes. "Wow, you actually made it." Jason said immediately he opened the door. "Well I couldn't miss it for the world. It's just as you said, 'it all depends on the moment we decide to take the first step', and that's exactly what I want to do. And besides, this kids need a symbol of inspiration. I want to become a better godfather… and grandfather." Steve said in a deep voice, a bit of emotion evident in his indifferent expression. He stepped aside, revealing a little girl beside him. • Symbols of Hope

A chorus of murmurs spread across the mob of press. Heroes were supposed to be a symbol of hope, that they were supposed to look up to. They were supposed to smile even in the face of danger. Heroes are meant to give people hope regardless of if it was false. And protect humanity from crisis and the invading alien abominations. Ichor didn't pretend that everything was alright. He told them to their faces that humanity had no chance in defeating the ever-adapting Xenosapians, and that made them despair. This was likely because many people saw Xenosapians as nightmares… hellish and inescapable walking nightmares. Especially for those few people who had witnessed their carnage firsthand and had survived it. Xenosapians were cruel, savage, bestial and dreadful. They instill fear to the hearts of people, going around butchering humans without remorse, mostly giggling strange noises while doing so. They were seen as the Symbol of Dread by people. "Did he just say there is no hope for
