CHAPTER 20 — One Hundred

“Profit?” Gavin asked, half under his breath.

“Yeah.” Caleb immediately leaned forward. “How much?”

Honestly, Gavin himself didn’t really understand crypto that well. The basics weren’t hard to grasp, but he had never actually bought a single token before.

He didn’t even have an exchange app. He had only heard other people talk about it.

“You guys are still here?” Gavin asked when he realized Nina and the others were still standing behind him.

“W-We...” Nina stammered slightly.

“Just tell us already!” one of the girls behind Nina shouted.

“Yeah, we wanna know too!” another added shamelessly.

There was no way Gavin could escape now after starting all this. He glanced left and right. Every eye was still locked onto him.

So after thinking for a few seconds, he finally answered casually.

“One hundred.”

Adam frowned.

Dylan tilted his head slightly.

Nina and almost everyone else in The Yard also seemed confused because the number was way too short.

“One hundred what?”

“One hundred dollars?”

“One hundred tokens?”

Then suddenly—

“ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS?!”

Caleb nearly jumped out of his chair.

“Bastard!” Dylan’s eyes widened too. “Are you serious?!”

“One hundred thousand?!” Even one of the girls behind Nina gasped softly.

Gavin himself only blinked a few times. Then he slowly smiled. He neither nodded nor denied it.

He simply waited to see how far the misunderstanding would go before deciding whether he needed to fix it later.

Meanwhile, the moment the number one hundred thousand dollars echoed throughout The Yard, everyone immediately started staring at each other.

At Riverton, money itself wasn’t exactly unusual.

But for students living in the Commons... One hundred thousand dollars was an entirely different story.

Even Nina and her friends looked slightly shocked, although they hid it fairly well.

But just as they were about to turn around and leave, Adam suddenly spoke.

“Gavin.”

Everyone looked back again, and Gavin raised an eyebrow.

“Hm?”

“You said you just took profit, right?”

“Yeah.”

Adam leaned back in his chair while staring at him.

“That hundred thousand...” He paused briefly. “Was that everything you made?”

Another pause.

“Or was that just what you cashed out?”

Silence.

Caleb froze.

Dylan slowly turned his head.

Even Nina, who had already taken a step away, stopped walking.

For a moment, Gavin said nothing. Because somehow... this situation was actually getting worse.

His brain started working rapidly.

If he said one hundred thousand was the full amount he made, that could create problems later.

After all, just the things he bought today already looked ridiculously excessive.

But if he mentioned a number that was too high... That would be even worse.

A few seconds later, Gavin finally shrugged casually.

“That was just what I cashed out this afternoon.”

It wasn’t the wind.

The rushing sound filling The Yard came from the collective sound of dozens of students inhaling sharply at the exact same time.

“OH... SHIT!!”

Caleb nearly jumped out of his chair again.

He thought things had already peaked.

Apparently not.

Because when Adam finally spoke again, The Yard became completely silent.

“Then how much did you actually make?!” Adam asked.

Gavin couldn’t answer.

Not because he didn’t know what number to say—But because a notification suddenly appeared in front of his vision.

The System had issued him an extremely harsh warning.

He only came here intending to share something with his friends.Who would’ve thought he’d end up facing massive consequences just because he made up a stupid story?

Several more seconds passed, and Gavin still couldn’t come up with an answer.

At one point, he genuinely considered standing up and running away from the entire place—If Caleb hadn’t suddenly slammed his hand onto the table.

“Adam, your question is going to put Gavin in danger.”

Adam blinked. “Huh?”

Caleb leaned forward, folded both hands on top of the table, and rested his chin against them seriously.

“If he reveals the amount, regulators might start looking for him!”

Dylan immediately nodded aggressively. “Exactly!” he shouted. “He could get robbed too!”

Then without the slightest hesitation, Dylan slapped his chest proudly.

“Gavin, let me be your bodyguard.”

Caleb immediately turned toward him again.

“No, wait. Gavin, I think you need a lawyer or something.”

“A financial advisor too!” Dylan added.

Adam, who had been staring at them the entire time, finally rubbed his face slowly.

“Gavin...” he sighed tiredly. “Forget I asked.”

Meanwhile, Gavin simply sat there quietly while staring at his three friends.

The same idiots who had caused his words to spiral completely out of control... Were also the same people who had just unintentionally saved him.

Meanwhile, Nina and the others had already turned around and started walking away.

They no longer cared about the chaos happening in The Yard.Because the information they got was already more than enough.

“Hey...” one of the girls suddenly asked. “Do you think Bella knows about this?”

Nina shook her head.

“If she knew, do you seriously think she would’ve left Gavin?”

“Oh... that actually makes sense.”

“So...” another girl lowered her voice. “Are we going to tell her?”

At that moment, Nina suddenly stopped walking.

Her friends frowned slightly as Nina turned around and looked back at Gavin’s back from afar.

Then she smiled before continuing to walk again.

“That bitch is already with Brandon,” Nina said casually.

“So now... Gavin’s fair game for everyone.”

“Huh?”

Nina kept smiling as she continued walking away.

Meanwhile, her friends remained frozen there, still trying to process what she had just said.

But only a few seconds later—

“Holy shit... wait a minute...”

The girl immediately turned and shouted.

“Hey, Nina... don’t tell me you’re actually going after—”

“Girls...” Nina shouted without even turning around while speeding up her steps.

“Don’t even think about blocking my path!”

“...What a bitch.”
